XR20 As MIDI Timing Master
The XR20 can control several other slave MIDI drum machines or sequencers by turning on MIDI
Clock Out, which sends XR20 timing information down the MIDI line.
1. Turn on MIDI Clock Out (page 6 of the Record Setup menus).
2. Program the slave units to not follow their internal clocks, but to accept external MIDI Clock
and Start/Stop data. Refer to each device's manual to find out how to do this. Enable the
slave's Song Position Pointer if it is available.
3. Press PLAY on the XR20. The slave units should start at the same time, and progress at the
same tempo. If the slaves respond to Song Position Pointer, you can start an XR20 Song at
any point, and after a few seconds the slaves will catch up and synchronize from that point
on.

XR20 As MIDI Timing Slave
The XR20 can be controlled by external devices through MIDI Clock. This allows you to sync
playback and tempo on the XR20 to your external MIDI device.
1. Turn on MIDI Clock In on the XR20 (page 5 of the Record Setup menus).
2. Program the master unit to send MIDI Clock. Refer to each device's manual to find out how
to do this.
3. Press PLAY on the master clock device. The XR20 should start at the same time, and
progress at the same tempo.
