Produ cing MP3/WM A discs
MP3/ WMA files are prepared, then written to a CD-R or

Bit rate
This is the “sound” compr e ssi on rate specified for en cod ing. The
higher the bit rate, the high er t he sound qual i ty , but also the larger
the files.
Sampling rate
This value shows how many times per sec ond the data is s am pled
(recor ded). F or example, music CDs use a sampling
rate of 44.1 kHz,
so the sound is s am pled (recorded) 44,100 times per second . Th e
higher the sam pl ing rate, the higher the sou nd qualit y, b ut also the
larger the volume of data.

About MP3/WMA
What is MP3?
MP3, whose offic ial name is “M PE G-1 Aud io Layer 3,” is a
compr essi on standard prescribed by the ISO, the International
Stan dardization Organization and MPEG which is a joint activity
instit ution of the IEC.
MP3 files conta in com presse d au dio data. MP3 encoding is
capab le of compressing audio data at extremely high ra tios,
reduc ing the size of mus ic files to as much as one -tenth thei r
origi nal siz e. This is achieved whil e s till maintaining near CD
qua lit y . The MP 3 fo rmat rea li ses such hi gh com pression ratios
by eliminat ing the soun ds that are eithe r inau dible to the human
ear or ma
sked by other sounds.
What is WMA?
WMA, or “Win dows Me dia™ Audio,” is compressed aud i o data.
WMA is simi lar to MP 3 au dio data and can achieve CD quality
soun d with small file sizes.
Method for creating MP3/WMA files
Audio data is compressed using s oftw are with MP3/WMA
cod ecs. F or deta ils on creatin g MP3/WMA files, refer to the
user’s manua l for that softwa r e.
MP3/WMA files that are playabl e on this d evi ce have the
file extensions “mp3” / “wm a ” Fi les with no extens ion
cannot be played back (W MA ver . 7-9 are supported). Protected
files are not suppor ted .
CAUTION
Except for priva t e use, duplicating aud i o data (including
MP3/WMA data) or distributing, transferring, or copying it ,
whether for free or for a fee, with out permission of the co pyright
holder is strict l y prohibit ed by the Copyright Act and b y
