SAFETY ST AND ARD
This product has been designed to meet the EN60065
international electr ical safety standard.
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
This product was designed and manufactured to meet strict quality
and safety standards. There are , howev er , some installation and
operation precautions of which you should be par ticular ly a ware:
1. Read Instructions All the saf ety and operating
instr uctions should be read before the appliance is operated.
2. Retain Instructions The safety and operating
instr uctions should be retained for future reference.
3. Heed W arnings All war nings on the appliance and in this
handbook should be adhered to.
4. Follo w Instructions All operating and use instr uctions
should be follow ed.
5. W ater and Moisture The appliance should not be used
near water - for example near a bathtub , washbowl, kitchen
sink, laundr y tub , in a wet basement or near a swimming pool, etc.
6. Racks and Stands The appliance should be used only
with a rack or stand that is recommended for use with audio
equipment. If the equipment is on a por table rack it should be
mov ed with care . Quick stops, excessive force, and uneven
surfaces may cause the combination to o ver tur n.
7. V entilation The appliance should be situated so that its
location or position does not interfere with its proper
ventilation. For example, the appliance should not be situated
on a bed, sofa, r ug or similar surface that may b lock the
ventilation openings or placed in a built-in installation, such as a
bookcase or cabinet that may impede the flo w of air through
the ventilation openings. W e recommend a minimum distance
of 50mm (2 inches) around the sides and top of the apparatus
to provide adequate v entilation.
8. Heat The appliance should be situated away from nak ed
flames and equipment, heat such as r adiator s, stoves or other
appliances (including other amplifiers) that produce heat.
9. Po w er Sour ces The appliance should be connected to a
pow er supply only of the type described in the oper ating
instr uctions or as mar ked on the appliance.
10. Grounding Precautions should be taken so that the
grounding means of the appliance is not defeated.
11. Po w er-Cord Pr otection P o wer supply cords should
be routed so that they are not likely to be walk ed on or
pinched by items placed upon or against them, paying par ticular
attention to cords and plugs, and the point where they exit
from the appliance .
12. Cleaning Unplug the unit from the mains supply before
cleaning. The appliance should nor mally only require a wipe
ov er with a clean, dr y , lint-free cloth. If it is heavily soiled then a
cloth slightly dampened with a water/washing up liquid solution
may be used. Dr y the unit afterwards with a dr y cloth.
W e do not advise the use of fur niture type cleaning sprays/
polishes as this can cause white mar ks, which are ver y difficult
to remov e , if the unit is then wiped ov er with water .
13. Po w er Lines An outdoor antenna/ aer ial should be
located awa y from power lines.
14. Non-use Periods If the unit has has a standby function,
a small amount of current will continue to flow into the
equipment in this mode .The pow er cord of the appliance
should be unplugged from the outlet when left unused for a
long period of time .
15. Object and Liquid Entr y Care should be taken so
that objects do not fall and liquids are not spilled into the
enclosure through any openings. Objects filled with liquids, such
as vases, should not be placed on the equipment.
16. Abnormal Smell If an abnor mal smell or smoke is
detected from the appliance , immediately turn the power off
and unplug the unit from the wall outlet.

17.Damage Requiring Service The appliance should be
ser viced b y qualified ser vice per sonnel when:
A. The po wer -supply cord or the plug has been damaged or ,
B. Objects have fallen, or liquid has spilled into the appliance or ,
C . The appliance has been exposed to rain or ,
D . The appliance does not appear to oper ate normally or exhibits
a mar ked change in performance or ,
E. The appliance has been dropped or the enclosure damaged.
18. Ser vicing Y ou should not attempt to ser vice the appliance
beyond that described in this handbook. All other ser vicing
should be referred to qualified ser vice per sonnel.
19. Climate The appliance has been designed for use in
moderate climates.This appliance is nor mally supplied with a
moulded mains plug already fitted to the lead. If f or any reason
the plug needs to be remov ed, it must be disposed of
immediately and securely , as it is a potential shock hazard when
inser ted into a mains socket.

When replacing the fuse in the supplied moulded mains plug, the
integral fuse holder/cover must al ways be ref itted.

Maximum V olume
This control restricts the overall volume level in each z one to a
pre-set maximum. This takes priority over any other setting.
Once you ha ve accessed the z one you wish to change, tur n the
volume control knob . The volume bar graph will show the
maximum v olume level in the selected zone. Press CONTROL
to mov e fur ther through the menus, or MODE to stay on this
menu, but mov e to a different z one .
Lock V olume
When on, this control locks the cur rent volume in each
zone so that it cannot be changed. The MUTE control will still
work within each zone . T urn the V OLUME control knob to
change from YES to NO or vice v er sa. Press CONTROL to
mov e fur ther through the menus, or MODE to stay on this
menu, but mov e to a different z one .
Access
This selects which enter tainment source can be play ed or
accessed in each zone. Press the source buttons

to select
one or several enter tainment sources you want the z one to
hav e access to. The green LED light abo ve the button will sho w
the selections you ha ve made.
Press CONTROL to mo ve fur ther through the menus, or
MODE to stay on this menu, but mo ve to a diff erent zone.
Contr ol
This selects which enter tainment source can be controlled in
each zone. Press the source buttons

Zone gr oup
Zone grouping allows y ou to lock several zones to the same
source - if you change the source in one of these z ones, all
zones in the group change as w ell. The volume controls are
independent. A typical application would be for bedroom with
en-suite bathroom.
T o put a z one in a group, use the V OLUME control knob

Options are ‘None’, ‘Group A’ or ‘Group B’.
Po w er On sour ce
When the unit is pow ered up, or a zone comes out of standby
a pow er on source is selected.
Use the source buttons

to set the pow er on source for a
given z one . Pressing any source button twice selects ‘Previous’
i.e . the source which was active before standb y or pow er down.
Po w er On v olume
When the unit is pow ered up, or a zone comes out of standby
a pow er on source is selected.
This can be changed as follows:
Use the V OLUME control knob

volume. T ur ning the volume do wn below minimum sets it to
‘Previous’. Note that if Lock V olume (see above) has been set,
then the pow er on volume alwa ys shows ‘Previous’.
Standb y rights
As shipped from the factor y , the entire system can be placed
into standby b y pressing and holding the standby/pow er button
in a zone. This menu allows y ou to block this operation.
Note that all zones are alwa ys able to bring the system out
of standby .
Use the volume control knob

to change the standby rights.
Options are ‘Local only’ or ‘Local + all off ’.

SET UP MENUS
Returning to factory settings
If you ha ve a system setting prob lem and you want to clear all
settings back to factor y defaults, press and hold both CD and VCR
buttons on the amplif ier for 5 seconds. The display will sho w the
pow er on screen ‘Arcam Multiroom Amplifier’ to confirm that your
settings hav e been cleared.
