7.4 Avoiding flare-ups
Flare-ups are sudden flames that spark from the bowl when you
are grilling. They are usually caused by dripping fat or marinade.
During grilling, some flare-ups are normal. Too many flare-ups,
however, increase the temperature in the bowl and can ignite
accumulated fat. To avoid flare-ups:
Make sure the bowl is clean before you start grilling. We
recommend cleaning the bowl after each use.
Remove excess fat and marinade from the meat. You can
also use a grill pan for fatty and/or marinated meat.
7.5 Grilling under the Dome
This information only applies to models Optima and Major. Model
Arena cannot be equipped with a Dome.
To use your appliance to its full potential, you can equip it with a
Dome. The Dome is a half-open, shell-shaped lid that reflects the
heat of the charcoal back onto the food. As a result, your food is
heated from the bottom and from the top. This allows you,
amongst others, to evenly cook large pieces of meat, to prepare
beer canned chickens and even to grill pizzas.

Use Dome 223.0043.000 for model Optima and Dome
223.0050.000 for model Major. For more information on
the Dome, refer to www.barbecook.com.

9 MAINTAINING THE APPLIANCE
9.1 Cleaning the bowl
3
The main steps of this task are illustrated in Figure 6, on
page 111.
We recommend cleaning the bowl after each use. With the
QuickStop
®
system, this is done in no time. Proceed as follows:
1 Let the appliance cool down completely.
2 Close the air supply holes at the bottom of the central pipe
(Fig. 6a).
3 Remove the bottom grid from the bowl and brush the ashes
into the pipe (Fig. 6b).
4 Release the clips at the bottom of the central pipe (Fig. 6c).
5 Lift the upper section of the appliance from the water
container and put it aside (Fig. 6c).
6 Poor the water with the ashes into a bucket (Fig. 6d).
7 Put the upper section of the appliance back on the water
container and close the clips.
8 Put the bottom grid back in the bowl.
9.2 Cleaning the grill
We recommend cleaning the grill after each use, with the
Barbecook cleaner. Proceed as follows:
1 Spray the foam on the grill and let it act for a while.
The foam discolours, as it soaks off the dirt and greases.
2 Remove the foam with a soft sponge and water and rinse the
grill thoroughly.
3 Dry the grill well and store it in a dry place. This prevents
formation of rust.
2
You can also clean the grill with a soft detergent or with
sodium bicarbonate. Never use oven cleaners on the grill.
9.3 Maintaining enamel, stainless steel
and chrome
The appliance is composed of enamelled, stainless steel and
chromed parts. Each material has to be maintained differently:

regarded as inadequate maintenance and are not
covered by the warranty.
Below the exploded view of your appliance (second part of the

composed. This list includes a symbol that specifies the material
of each part, so you can use it to check how you have to maintain
a particular part. The parts lists use the following symbols:
