X Plug in the charger (8) and switch on at the mains.
X Insert the battery pack (7) into the charger. Make sure
that the battery pack is fully seated in the charger (8).
X The charging indicator (9) will flash continuously
(slowly).
X Leave the battery to charge for at least 5 to 6 hours.
X The charge is complete when the charging indicator (9)
lights continuously
X The charger and the battery pack can be left connected
indefinitely with the LED illuminated. The LED will
change to flashing (charging) state, as the charger
occasionally “tops off“ the battery charge.
X The charging indicator (9) will be lit as long as the
battery pack is connected to the plugged-in charger.
X Charge discharged batteries within 1 week. Battery life
will be greatly diminished if stored in a discharged state.
Charge indicators
If the charger detects a problem with a battery pack, the
charge indicator (9) will flash at a fast rate.
X If this occurs, re-insert the battery pack (7).
X If the problem persists, put a different battery pack in the
charger to determine if the charger is OK.
X If the new pack charges correctly, then the original pack
is defective and should be returned to a service centre
for recycling.
X If the new battery pack gives the same indication as the
original, take the charger to be tested at an authorized
service centre.
Note: It may take as long as fifteen minutes to determine that
the pack is defective.
If the battery pack is too hot or too cold, the LED will
alternately blink fast and slow, one flash at each speed and
repeat.
Daisy chain (fig. C)
Black & Decker single and dual port VPX battery chargers
can be electrically connected in any order up to a maximum
of 4 chargers. Each charger has a power-in cord (10) which
plugs into the electrical outlet and a power-out cord (11)
which plugs into the next charger.
To connect chargers in a daisy chain:
X Plug the power-in cord (10) into an electrical outlet.
X Remove the power-in cord from the next charger and
plug in the power-out cord (11) from the charger that is
now plugged into the outlet.
X Repeat this process for the remaining chargers.
Chargers that are daisy chained together operate
independently as though each one was plugged into a
separate outlet, therefore a battery can be removed from
anywhere along the daisy chain without affecting the other
chargers.
Use
Switching on and off (fig. D)
The tool is equipped with a switch lock-off feature to prevent
unintentional operation.
X To operate the tool, slide the switch lock-off button (1) to
the back and hold it as you pull the on/off trigger
switch (2).
X When the tool is running, release the switch lock-off
button (1). The tool will continue to run while the on/off
trigger switch (2) is pressed.
X To turn the tool off, release the on/off trigger switch (2).
There is no provision for locking the tool in the on
position.
X Hold the saw firmly with one or both hands while cutting.
Whenever possible, the saw shoe must be held firmly
against the material being cut. This will prevent the saw
from jumping or vibrating and minimize blade breakage.
Fitting the saw blade (fig. E)
Your saw accepts both T-shank and universal shank jig saw
blades. 1 mm or thicker blade recommended.
Warning! Recently used blades may be hot.
X Hold the saw blade (5) securely. If the saw blade is fitted
with a tooth protector, leave it attached while fitting the
blade.
X Push down on the blade clamp release lever (3) to
release the blade clamping mechanism.
X Insert the shank of the saw blade (5) into the blade
holder as far as it will go.
X Release the blade clamp lever (3) to lock the blade
clamping mechanism.
X Remove the tooth protector, if fitted.
To remove a blade from the saw:
X Push down on the blade clamp release lever (3) to its full
open position.
X Remove the blade (5).
X Release the blade clamp release lever (3).
Sawing
X Let the blade run freely for a few seconds before starting
the cut.
X Apply only a gentle pressure to the tool while performing
the cut.
X If possible, work with the shoe (4) pressed against the
workpiece. This will improve tool control and reduce tool
