General Power Tool Safety Warnings
Read all safety warnings and all in-
structions . Failure to follow the
warnings and instructions may result in electric shock,
fire and/or serious injury.
Save all warni ngs and instruction s for future refer-
ence.
The term “power tool” in the warning s refers to your
mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-ope r-
ated (cordless) power tool.
Work area safety
f Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or
dark areas invite accidents.
f Do not operate power tools in expl osive atmos-
pheres, s uch as in th e prese nce of flamm able liq-
uids, gases or dus t. Power tools create sparks
which may ignite the dust or fumes.
f Keep children and b ystanders away while operat-
ing a power tool . Distractions can cause you to
lose control.
Electrical safety
f Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never
modify the plug in any way. Do n ot use any adapt-
er plugs with earthed (grounded) po wer tools.
Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce
risk of electric shock.
f Avoid body contact with ea rthed or grounded
surfaces, such as pi pes, radiators, ranges a nd re-
frigerators. There is an incr eased risk of electr ic
shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
f Do not e xpose powe r tools to rain or we t condi-
tions. Water entering a power tool will increa se
the risk of electric shock.
f Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for car-
rying, pull ing or un plugging the power tool. Keep
cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges and moving
parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the
risk of electric shock.
f When operat ing a powe r tool outd oors, use an
extension c ord suitable for outdoor u se. Use of a
cord suitable for ou tdoor us e reduces the risk of
electric shock.
f If operating a power to ol in a damp location is un-
avoidable, use a residual current device (RCD)
protected suppl y. Use of an RCD red uces the risk
of electric shock .
Personal safety
f Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use
common sense when operating a power too l. Do
not use a power tool while yo u are ti red or unde r
the influence of drugs, alcohol or medic ation. A
moment of inattention while ope rating power tools
may result in serious personal injury.
f Use personal protecti ve equipment. Always wear
eye protection. Protective equipm ent such as dust
mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing
protection used fo r appropriate condit ions will re-
duce personal injuries.
f Prevent uni ntentional starting. Ensure the switch
is in the off-position before co nnecting to power
source and/ or battery pack, pick ing up o r carry-
ing the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger
on the switch or ene rgising power tools tha t have
the switch on invites accidents.
f Remove any adjusting k ey or wrench before tu rn-
ing the power to ol on. A wr ench or a key left at-
tached to a rotating part of the power tool may re-
sult in personal injury.
f Do not o verreach. Keep proper footin g and bal-
ance at all times. This enables better control of the
power tool in une xpected situa tions.
f Dress prope rly. Do not wear lo ose clothin g or
jeweller y. Keep your hair , clothi ng and glo ves
away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewe llery
or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
f If devices are pro vided for the connection of dust
extraction and coll ection facilities , ensure these
are connected and prop erly used. Use of dust col-
lection can reduce dust-related hazards.
Power tool use and care
f Do not force the power tool. Use the correct pow-
er tool f or your a pplication. The correct power
tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for
which it was designed.
f Do not use the power to ol if the switc h does not
turn it on and of f. Any power tool that cannot be
controlled with the switch is d angerous and must
be repaired.
f Disconnect the plu g from the power so urce
and/or th e batte ry pack f rom the power t ool be-
fore making any adjustments, chang ing accesso-
ries, or sto ring power t ools. Such preventive safe-
ty measures reduce the risk of starting the power
tool accidentally.
f Store idle po wer tools out of the reach of chil -
dren and d o not allow persons unfamilia r with
the power tool or these instruc tions to op erate
the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the
hands of untrained users.
f Maintain po wer tools. Check for mis alignment or
binding of moving parts , breakage of parts and
any other conditio n that may affect the power
tool’s operation. If damaged, have the po wer tool
repaired before use. Many accidents are caused
by poorly maintained power tools.
f Keep cutti ng tools sharp and cle an. Properly
maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edg es
are less likely t o bind and are easier to c ontrol.
f Use the power tool, accessories and too l bits etc.
in accordance with t hese instructions, taking into
account the worki ng conditions and the wo rk to
be performed. Use of the power tool for opera-
tions different from those intended could result in
a hazardous situation.
Service
f Have your power tool serviced by a qualified re-
pair person using on ly identica l replacem ent
parts. This will ensur e that the safety of th e power
tool is maintained.
Hedge trimmer safety warnings
f Keep all parts of the body aw ay from the cutter
blade. Do not remove cut material nor hold mate-
rial to be cut when blades are moving. Make sure
the switch is off when clearing jammed material.
A moment of inattention while operating the hedge
trimmer may result in serious personal injury.
f Carry the hedge trimmer by the handle with the
cutter blade st opped. When transporting or stor-
ing the hedge trimmer always fit the cutting de-
vice cover. Proper handling of the hedge trimmer
will reduce possible perso nal injury from the cutter
blades.
f Hold the power tool by insu lated grip ping surfac -
es only, because the cutter blade may contact
hidden wiring or it s own cord. Cutter blades con-
tacting a “live” wi re may make expose d metal parts
of the power to ol “live” an d could give the o perator
an electric shock .
f Keep cable away from cutting area. During ope ra-
tion the cable may be hidden in shrubs and can be
accidentally cut by the blade.
