Bosch Power Tools F 016 L70 917 | (22.10.13)
well as high vibration levels and long periods of exposure to
vibration are mentioned as factors in the development of
white finger disease. In order to reduce the risk of white fin-
ger disease and carpal tunnel syndrome, please note the fol-
lowing:
Wear gloves and keep hands warm
Maintain a firm grip at all times, but do not squeeze the
handles with constant, excessive pressure
Take frequent breaks
All of the above mentioned precautions do not guarantee that
you will not sustain white finger disease or carpal tunnel syn-
drome. Therefore, continual and regular users should closely
monitor the conditon of their hands and fingers. If any of the
above symptoms appear, seek medical advice immediately.
Adjust the carrying strap to your body hight for safe and easy
handling handling.
Add chain saw oil (preferably biodegradable) until tank/res-
ervoir is full.
Before operation, check the work area and remove all possi-
ble hazards.
ALWAYS WEAR SUITABLE CLOTHING:
In addition to re-
quired safety equipment, it is advisable to wear suitable
clothing (long sleeve shirt and trousers) when using this tool.
Keep all parts of the body away from the saw chain. Do
not remove cut material nor hold material to be cut when
blades are moving. Make sure the tool is switched off and
unplugged when clearing jammed material.
A moment of
inattention while operating the pole pruner may result in seri-
ous personal injury.
Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces only,
because the saw chain may contact hidden wiring or its
own cord.
Saw chains contacting a “live” wire may make ex-
posed metal parts of the power tool “live” and could give the
operator an electric shock.
Maintain a firm grip, with thumbs and fingers encircling
the pole pruner handles, with both hands on the pole
pruner and position your body and arm to allow you to re-
sist kickback forces.
Kickback forces can be controlled by
the operator, if proper precautions are taken. Do not let go of
the pole pruner.
Do not operate a pole pruner in a tree.
Operation of a pole
pruner while up in a tree may result in personal injury.
Always keep proper footing and operate the pruner only,
when standing on fixed, secure and level surface.
Slip-
pery or unstable surfaces such as ladders may cause a loss of
balance or control of the pruner.
When cutting a branch be alert for kickback.
When the
branch is broached it can bend down and jam the saw chain.
Carry the pole pruner switched off, by the front handle,
the blade pointing forward. When transporting or stor-
inging always fit the guide bar cover.
Proper handling of
the pole pruner will reduce the likelihood of accidental con-
tact with the moving saw chain.
Follow instructions for lubricating, chain tensioning and
changing accessories.
Improperly tensioned or lubricated
chain may either break or increase the chance for kickback.
Keep handles dry, clean, and free from oil and grease.
Greasy, oily handles are slippery causing loss of control.
Cut wood only. Don’t use pole pruner for purposes not in-
tended. For example: do not use pole pruner for cutting
plastic, masonry or non-wood building materials.
Use of
the pole pruner for operations different than intended could
result in a hazardous situation.
Causes and operator prevention of kickback:
Kickback may occur when the nose or tip of the guide bar
touches an object, or when the wood closes in and pinches
the saw chain in the cut.
Tip contact in some cases may cause a sudden reverse re-
action, kicking the guide bar up and back towards the opera-
tor.
Pinching the saw chain along the top of the guide bar may
push the guide bar rapidly back towards the operator.
Either of these reactions may cause you to lose control of
the pole pruner which could result in serious personal injury.
As a pole pruner user, you should take several steps to keep
your cutting jobs free from accident or injury.
Kickback is the result of tool misuse and/or incorrect operat-
ing procedures or conditions and can be avoided by taking
proper precautions as given below:
Only use replacement bars and chains specified by the
manufacturer.
Incorrect replacement bars and chains may
cause chain breakage and/or kickback.
Follow the manufacturer’s sharpening and maintenance
instructions for the saw chain.
Decreasing the depth gauge
height can lead to increased kickback.
This tool is not intended for use by persons (including chil-
dren) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities,
or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been
given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appli-
ance by a person responsible for their safety.
Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play
with the appliance.
Never allow children or people unfamiliar with these instruc-
tions to operate the pole pruner. Local regulations may re-
strict the age of the operator. When not in use store the pole
pruner out of reach of children.
Children and juveniles, with the exception of apprentices
older than 16 years and under supervision, may not oper-
ate the pole pruner. The same applies for persons who do
not or do not sufficiently know how to handle the pole
pruner.
The operating instructions should always be ready to
hand. Persons unfit or tired must not operate the pole pruner.
When working with the machine, always hold it firmly
with both hands and provide for a secure stance.
The gar-
den tool is guided more secure with both hands.
Always wait until the machine has come to a complete
stop before placing it down.
The saw chain can jam and lead
to loss of control over the garden tool.
Switch off and disconnect the pole pruner when changing the
working position, when laying down or during transport.
A cut branch can lead to personal injury by falling on you or
springing back from the ground. Cut longer branches in sec-
tions.
