Bosch Power Tools 3 609 929 C50 | (17.6.13)
Certain dusts, such as oak or beech dust, are considered
as carcinogenic, especially in connection with wood-treat-
ment additives (chromate, wood preservative). Materials
containing asbestos may only be worked by specialists.
Provide for good ventilation of the working place.
It is recommended to wear a P2 filter-class respirator.
Observe the relevant regulations in your country for the
materials to be worked.
Prevent dust accumulation at the workplace. Dusts can
easily ignite.
Mounting the Auxiliary Handle (see figure A)
Operate your machine only with the auxiliary handle 4.
Screw the auxiliary handle 4 on the right or left of the machine
head depending on the working method.
Adjusting the Auxiliary Handle (see figure B)
The auxiliary handle 4 can be adjusted, e. g., to carry out jobs
in hard to reach locations.
Loosen locking screw 2.
Move the auxiliary handle 4 accordingly to suit your work-
ing conditions and working position.
Tighten locking screw 2 again.
Mounting/Replacing the Sanding belt
(see figure C)
Push tensioning arm 7 toward guide roller 10. Remove
sanding belt 9, if required.
With the tensioning arm 7 pushed in, mount the new sand-
ing belt 9. Pay attention that the arrow directions on the in-
side of the sanding belt and the housing of the power tool
correspond.
Guide tensioning arm 7 back to the starting position. Pay
attention that the sanding belt 9 is properly seated on the
guide rollers 8 and 10.
Selecting the Sanding Belt
Depending on the material to be worked and the required rate
of removal, different sanding belts are available:
Operation
Starting Operation
Observe correct mains voltage! The voltage of the pow-
er source must agree with the voltage specified on the
nameplate of the machine. Power tools marked with
230 V can also be operated with 220 V.
Switching On and Off
To start the machine, press the On/Off switch 6 and keep it
pressed.
To lock-on the pressed On/Off switch 6, push the On/Off
switch 6 further forward.
To switch off the power tool, release the On/Off switch 6, or
when it is locked, briefly press the On/Off switch 6 and then
release it.
To save energy, only switch the power tool on when using it.
Preselecting the Belt Speed
Operate with a belt speed adapted to the application, in
order to prevent damage to the material.
The required belt speed can be adjusted with the thumbwheel
for belt speed preselection 5 (even during operation).
The required belt speed depends on the material being sand-
ed and on the working conditions, and can be determined by
practical testing.
When using a fleece belt, do not work with a higher set-
ting than speed stage 4 (max.). Otherwise, the fleece
belt will become too hot.
Working Advice
The sanding of pipes takes place between the guide rollers 8
and 10 (see figure D).
The smaller the pipe diametre, the larger the possible wrap
angle (270°).
When sanding, the removal capacity and the surface quality
are mainly determined by the sanding belt selection as well as
through the preselected belt speed.
Work with the lowest possible sanding pressure in order to in-
crease the service life of the sanding belts. Excessively in-
creasing the sanding pressure does not lead to a higher sand-
ing capacity, but to more wear of the power tool and the
sanding belt.
Work with moderate feed and perform the sanding parallel
and overlapping with respect to the sanding paths.
To achieve a perfect surface, do not skip more than one grain
size when selecting the sanding belt.
Use only original Bosch sanding accessories.
Only flawless sanding belts achieve good sanding capacity
and make the machine last longer.
Do not clamp power tools in the saw stand. Clamped
power tools and sharp-edged application tools may result
in serious injury.
Storage of the Sanding Belts
Store sanding belts in their original packaging at
15 °C 25 °C room temperature and 40 % – 70 % humidity.
Do not store sanding belts on concrete floors, close to open
windows or heaters.
Do not bend or kink the sanding belts, otherwise they will be-
come unusable.
