Please take the time to read these instructions car efully and keep
them to hand in the storage compartment provided on the child safe-
ty seat at all times! The instructions must accompany the child seat if
it is passed on to athird party!
DANGER! T o protect your child:
• In the event of an accident at acollision speed of more than 10 km/h, the
child seat may be damaged without the damage being immediately visi-
ble. In this case the child seat must be replaced. Please dispose of it
properly .
• Always have your child seat checked if it has been damaged (e.g by fall-
ing to the ground).
• Regularly check all important parts for damage. In particular , ensure that
all the mechanical parts are fully functional.
• Never apply oil or grease to any parts of the child seat.
• Never leave your child unattended on the child seat in the vehicle.
• Only allow your child to enter and e xit the vehicle on the pavement side.
• Pr otect the child seat from int ense direct sunlight when not in use. The
child seat can become very hot in direct sunshine. Children's skin is sen-
sitive and could be harmed as aresult.
• The mor e snugly the belt fits over your child's body, the better the
child will be protect ed. Therefor e, avoid having your child wear thick
clothes under the belt.
• On long journeys, take regular br eaks in order to give your child the
chance to run about and play .
DANGER! F or the safety of all vehicle occupants:
In the case of an emergency stop or accident, unsecur ed objects or people
may cause injury to other occupants in the vehicle. Therefor e, please always
ensure that ...
• the backrests of the vehicle seats ar e locked (e.g. If there is afolding rear
seat bench, check that it is latched in place).
• all heavy or sharp-edged objects in the vehicle (e.g. on the parcel shelf)
are secur ed.
• all persons in the vehicle have their seat belts fastened.
• the child seat is secured whenever it is in the vehicle, even if not carrying
achild.
WARNING! F or your protection when handling the child seat:
• Never use the child safety seat in afree-standing position, even for testing.
• When swivelling the backrest up, 12 nothing must come between the
back-rest 12 and the seat cushion 09 . Y ou or your child’s fingers could be
jammed and injured.
• T o avoid damage, ensure that the child seat is not jammed in between
hard objects (car door , seat rails, etc.).
• Keep the child seat in asafe place when not in use. Do not place heavy
objects on the seat and do not store it dir ectly next t o sources of heat or
in direct sunlight.
CAUTION! T o protect your vehicle:
• Certain car seat covers made from mor e sensitive materials (e.g. velour ,
leather , etc.) may show signs of wear when achild seat is used on them.
F or optimum prot ection of your car seat covers, we recommend using the
BRIT AX RÖMER car seat protect or from our r ange of accessories.
We ar e delighted that you have chosen our child seat to accompany your
child safely through anew stage in his or her life.
T o protect your child correctly, the child seat must always be used and
installed as described in these instructions!

This child seat has been designed, tested and appr oved according to the r e-
quirements of the Eur opean Standard for Child Safety Equipment (ECE R
44/04). The certification mark (letter E in acircle) and appr oval number can
be found on the orange appr oval label (sticker on the child seat).
DANGER! The certification is invalidated if any modifications ar e made to
the child seat. Only the manufacturer is permitted t o make modifications
to the child safety seat. The child seat is approved for use both with and
without SecureGuard.
WARNING! The KIDFIX² R and KIDFIX² S must be used e xclusively for
securing your child in the vehicle. They are in no way suitable for use as
aseat or atoy in the home.
DANGER! Never secur e your child or the child seat with a2-point belt. If
your child is secured in the child seat with a2-point belt only, this may
cause serious injuries, which could even be fatal.
Please refer to your vehicle’ s instruction manual for instructions on
how to use child restraint syst ems. The seat can be used in vehicles with
ISOFIX anchoring systems (see type list) and in vehicles with 3-point
belts.
Please refer to your vehicle’ s instruction manual for information on the
seats approved as child seats for weight class 15 to 36 kg .
The KIDFIX² R and KIDFIX² S are approved for two dier ent installation
methods:

1) Use is permitted on a rear-facing vehicle seat (e.g. in a van or minibus) only if the vehi-
cle seat is also approved for use by adults. The seat must not be within the activated
range of an airbag.
2) The safety belt must be approved to ECE R 16 or a comparable standard (indicated on
the belt’ s test label by an "E" or "e" inside acircle).
3) If there is a front airbag: Slide the car seat well back and follow the related instructions
in the vehicle’ s instruction manual.
4) Cannot be used if the vehicle seat is equipped with a2-point belt only .
1. Grasp the adjustment handle 10 on the back of the
headrest 22 and pull it upwar ds. This unlocks the
headrest.
2. Y ou can now move the unlocked headrest 22 to
the desired height. When you r elease the adjust-
ment handle 10 , the headrest 22 locks into place.
3. Place the child seat on the car seat.
4. Sit your child on the child seat and check the height.
Repeat the above procedur e until the headrest 22 is
at the correct height.
A correctly adjusted headr est 22 ensures optimal positioning of the diago-
nal strap 16 , and gives your child optimum pr otection. The headrest 22
must be positioned so that two fingers can be inserted between your
child's shoulders the headrest 22 .
T o adjust the height of the headrest to fit your child:
Please ensure that you only use original BRIT AX RÖMER replacement seat
covers, as the seat cover is an integr al part of the child safety seat and fulfils
important functions that ensure smooth oper ation of the system. Replace-
ment seat covers are available fr om your dealer .
• The cover can be removed and washed with amild deter gent, selecting
the “Delicates” progr amme on the washing machine (30 °C). Please ob-
serve the instructions on the washing label of the cover .
• The plastic parts can be cleaned in soapy water . Do not use aggressive
cleaning agents (such as solvents).
DANGER! The child safety seat must not be used without the seat cover .
Removing the seat cover
1. Push the headr est of the vehicle seat to its top posi-
tion.
2. Unhook the cover hook 19 on the rear of the back-
rest.
3. Pull o the t op part of the cover and fold it forwards
onto the seat surface.
4. Release the cover hooks 19 on the front of the back-
rest and on both sides of the seat surface and loosen
the plastic cards on the fr ont of the seat cushion.
5. Pull the cover away fr om the seat surface.
Removing the headrest cover
1. Unhook the cover straps 20 on the rear of the back-
rest.
2. Unhook the cover hooks 19 on the front of the back-
rest.
3. Pull the headr est cover 22 o; to do this, detach the
two hooks on the bottom of the headrest.
►The cover can now be washed. Please observe the
instructions on the washing label of the cover .
Putting the cover on
F ollow the above steps in the r everse order to put the cover
on.
UNF ASTENING Y OUR CHILD:
T o unfasten your child, press the release button on the car seat buckle.
DANGER! The child seat must always be secur ed when in the vehicle, even
if not carrying achild.
RE-A TT ACHING THE BACKRES T:

1. P ress the release button on car vehicle seat buckle.
2. Open the dark red belt holder 03 by pressing the
button on the belt holder 03 backwards, then pull out
the diagonal
belt 16 .
Only for installation type A (ISOFIT):
3. T o release the ISOFIT fitting, squeeze the gr een lock-
ing button 07 and red release button 06 together , first
on one side then on the other .
►The child safety seat can now be removed.
