With your PT-1010, you can cre ate labels for any application. Select from the
many frames, character sizes and st yles to design beautiful custom labels. In
addition, the variety of tape cartridges available allows you to print labels with
different widths and exciting colors.
Read this manual carefully before starting and keep the manual in a handy
place for future reference.
• Always use the specified voltage and th e suggested AC adapter (AD-24) for th is
machine to prevent any damage or f ailure.
• Unplug the power cord immediately and st op using the P-touch labeler during an
electrical storm. The re may be a remote risk of electri c shock from lightning.
• Do not use the AC adapter in places of high humidi ty such as bathrooms.
• Do not overload the power cord.
• Do not place heavy ob jects on, or damage the power cord o r plug. Do not forcibly bend
or pull the p ower cord. When disconnecting the power cord from t he power outl et,
always hold the plug.
• To prevent fire or electric shock, make su re that the plug is fully inserted to the po wer
outlet. Do not use an outlet tha t is loose.
• Do not get the machine/AC adapter/ power plug wet, such as by handling them with
wet hands or spilling beverages on to them.
• Do not disassemble or modify the machine/AC adapter/batt eries.
• Disconnect the AC adapter, remove batteries and stop using immediately if you notice
any abnormal odour, heat , discolouration, deformation or anyth ing unusual while in
use, or in storage.
• Do not use metallic articl es, such as tweezers or a metallic pen, when exchanging the
batteries.
• Do not thr ow into fire or heat up the battery.
• To avoid injuries, do not t ouch the blade of the cut ter unit or any metal part s near the
print head.
• Do not apply excessive pressure to the cutter lever .
• Remove the batteries and disconnect the AC adapt er if you do not intend to use the
machine for an extended pe riod of time. (Note: When p ower is disconnected for more
than two minutes, all text & format s in the display will be lost. Language, Unit and
Time/Date settings will also be cleared.)
• Do not use old and new batteries together or mix alkaline batteries with other type
batteries, or se t the positive and negative end i n the wrong posit ion. Otherwise, the
batteries may leak or be damaged.
• To prevent damage or breakage, do not drop or hit the mach ine/AC adapter and pr ess
on the LCD display.
• Depending on the location, mat erial, and environ mental conditions, t he label may
unpeel or become irremovable, t he color of the label may change or be transferred to
other objects. Before app lying the label, check the environmental condi tion and the
material.
• Any data stored in memory will be lost due to failure or repair of the P-touch labeler,
or if the b attery expires.
• Do not use the P-touch labeler i n any way or for any purpose not describe d in this
guide. Doing so may result in accidents or damage the machine.
• Use only Brother TZ tapes with this machine. Do not use tapes that do not have the
mark .
• Do not clean t he machine with alco hol or other organic so lvents. Only use a soft, dr y
cloth.
• Do not touch the print he ad with your fingers. Use a soft wipe (e.g. a co tton swab)
when cleaning the print head.
• Do not put a ny foreign objects into the ta pe exit slot or AC adapter connector , etc.
• Do not place the P-touch labeler in dire ct sunlight or rain, near heat ers or other hot
appliances, dashboard or in the back of your car, in any locat ion exposed to extremely
high or low temperatures, high hu midity, or dusty locations. St andard operating
temperature range: 50° F to 95° F (10 ° C to 35° C).
• Do not try to print labels using an empty tape cassette in the P-tou ch labeler. Doing
so will damage the pr int head.
• Do not pull the tape being fed from th e P-touch labeler, otherwise the tape cassette
or P-touch l abeler may be da maged.

Open the tape compartment
cover by pressing in the rough
area at the top end of the
machine.
If a tape cassett e is already
installed, remove it by pulling it
straight up. Al so, if batteries a re
already installed, remove them.
• Make sure that the power is
turned off when replacing
batteries or tape ca ssette.
Insert six new AAA alkaline
batteries (LR03), making sur e
that their poles point in the
correct directions. Always
replace all six batteri es at the
same time using brand new
ones.
Insert a tape cassette, making
sure that it sna ps into place.
• Make sure that the end of the tape feeds unde r the tape guides.
• If the ink ribbon is loose, use your finger to wind the toothed wh eel in the
direction of the arrow on the cassette.
• Use only Brother TZ tapes with this machine.
Securely close the back cover, making
sure that it sna ps into place.
After you have installed t he tape, feed the
tape (see Feeding) once and then push in the
tape cutter lever to cut the t ape.
When using optional AC adapter (AD-24)
Insert the plug on the adapter cord into
the adapter jack on the bottom end of
the machine.
Insert the plug into the nearest standard
electrical outlet.
For memory back up, we recommend using
AAA alkaline batteries (LR03) together
when using the AC adapter.

Initial Settings
Start your machine
Supply power by using six AAA alkal ine batteries or the optional AC adapter, and
then press .
Set the language (English/Español/Français/Hrvatski/Italiano/Magyar/
Nedrlnds/Norsk/Polski/Portug./Romana/Slovenski/Slovensky/Suomi/
Svenska/ /Dansk/Deutsch)

enter can be up to 80 characters in length.

If the cutter blade becomes blunt and the cutte r stopper wear after repetitive
use and the tape cannot be cut cleanly, re place with new cutter unit (stock no.
TC-5) by obtaining from an authorized brother reseller.

Problem Solution

• Check tha t the batteries are correctly inserted.
• If the batteries are weak, replace t hem.
• Check tha t the

adapter is correctl y connected.
When the label is
printed out, there is too
much margin (space) on
both sides of the te xt.

The machine does not
print, or the printed
characters ar e not
formed properly .
• Check tha t the tape casset te has been inse r ted corre ctly .
• If the tape cassette is empty , replace it.
• Check the tape compartment cov er is properly closed.
The setting has cleared
on its own.
• The batteries may be weak. Replace them.
• When pow er is disconnected f or mo re than two minutes,
all te xt & f ormats in the display will be lost. Language , Unit
and Time/Date settings will also be cleared.

You can preview the text before printing.

• The LCD shows the whole text and the label length (inch/mm), then retur ns to the

• Only the text can be previewed, not the font, style, size, underline/frame or any
additional featu res.

Printing
• To cut off the la bel, push in the tape cutter lever on the upper-righ t corner of t he
machine.
• To prevent damage to the tape, do not try to cut while the messag e "Print" or "Feed"
is displayed.
• When Chain Print is set, "OK to Feed?" will appear. (See the Note of [Chain Prt] in
[Margin] (Tape Margin). )

[Full]/[Half]/[Narro w] is for leaving equal margins on both sides of the text.
NOTE: Cut along the printed dots (:) with scissors so the text is centered in the label .
[Chain Prt] (Chain Print) is for printing more than 1 copy of a label with min-
imum margin <e.g. 1>. You can also create a la bel containing texts in various
styles; enter a text in one style and press . After that, cancel feeding (see
the note below), and enter the second text in another style <e.g.2>.

You can print up to 9 copies of each label.

Use clear tape in [Mirror], so the labels can be re ad correctly from the oppo -
site side when attached on glass, windows or other transpa rent surfaces.
Peel the printed label from back ing and apply the label.
File (Memory)
You can save your original labels on to your mach ine. Up to nine labels can
be saved and recalled for printing whenever you desire. You can also edit and
overwrite the stored label.

Time/Date Function
You can insert the desired time an d date to your text at the touch of a button.
8 Formats are available for printing time and date.
You can change the number of time/date by changing the clock setting.
