ELECTRONIC LABELING SYSTEM
Follow these gu idelines to avoid the risk of fire, burns, inju ry,
electric sho ck, ruptur e, overheatin g, abnorm al odor or
smoke.
• Always use the specified voltage and the re commended AC adapter
(AD-24ES) for the P-touch la beler to pr event any damage or failu re.
• Do not touch th e P-touch labele r during a lightning storm.
• Do not use the P-touch labeler /AC adapte r in places of h igh humidi ty
such as bathrooms.
• Do not overloa d the power cord.
• Do not place he avy objects on, o r damage the power cord or plug. Do
not forcibly be nd or pull the power cord . Always hold th e AC adapt er
carefully when d isconnecting fro m the power outlet.
• Make sure that th e plug is fully insert ed in the power out let. Do not use
an outlet tha t is loose.
• Do not a llow the P -touch l abeler/AC ada pter/power plug/batte ries to get
wet, for example, by handling them with wet hands or spilling beverages
on to them.
• Since loss of eyesi ght may result when leaked fl uid from batteri es gets
into your eyes, immed iately rinse your eyes w ith a large amoun t of clean
water, and then see k medical atten tion.
• Do not disassemble or modify the P-touch labeler /AC adapter/b atteries.
• Do not allow a me tal object to contact bot h the plus and minus ends of a
battery.
• Do not use sharp objects, su ch as tweezers or a metallic pen, to change
the batteries .
• Do not throw t he batteries into fire or expose t o heat.
• Disconnect the AC adapter, rem ove batteries immediatel y and stop
using the P-touch labeler if you notice abnor mal odor, h eat,
discoloration, d eformation or anything u nusual whi le using or stori ng it.
• Do not use a d amaged or leaki ng battery as th e fluid m ay get on your
hands.
• Do not use a d eformed or l eaking batte ry or one w ith a damage d label.
There is a possibility of generating heat.
Follow these gu idelines to avoid p ersonal injury, liquid

• When the P-touch labeler is not being used, store it out of the r each of children. In
addition, do not allow c hildren to put the P-touch labeler parts or labels in their
mouths. If any object has been swallowed, seek medical attention.
• Do not touch metal parts around the print head immediately after printi ng.
• Do not touch the c utter blade.
• If leaked fluid from batteries gets on your skin or clothes, immediately rinse them with
clean water.
• Remove the batteries and disconnect the AC adapter if y ou do not intend to use the
P-touch labeler.
• Do not use a battery other than t hat specified. Do not use combinations of ol d and
new batteries or combinations of different types, different charging levels, different
manufacturers or different m odels. Do not insert a battery w ith its plus and minus
ends reversed.
• Do not drop or hit the P-touch labele r/AC adapter.
• Do not press on t he LCD display.
• Be careful not to t rap your fingers when closing the cassette cover.
• Before using Ni-MH rechargeable batteries, c arefully read the ins tructions for the
batteries and battery ch arger, and be s ure to use them correctly.
• When using Ni-MH rechargeable batteries, c harge the batteries with a specialized
battery charger before using t he batteries.
• Depending on the location, material, and environmental conditions, the label may
unpeel or become irremovable, the color of the label may change or be transferred
to other objects. Bef ore applying the label, check the environmental conditions and
the material.
• Do not use the P-t ouch labeler in any way or for any purpose not described in t his
guide. Doing so m ay result in acci dents or damage t he P-touch labeler.
• Use only Brother TZe or HGe tapes with the P-t ouch labeler. Do not us e tapes that
do not have the or m ark.
• Only use a soft, dry cloth to clean t he labeler; nev er use alcohol or other organic
solvents.
• Use a soft wipe t o clean the print head; never touc h the print head.
• Do not put any f oreign objects into the tape exit slot or battery com partment, etc.
• Do not place the P-t ouch labeler, batt eries or AC adapter in direct sunlight or rain,
near heaters or other hot appliances, in any location exposed to extremely high or
low temperatures (e.g., on the dashboard or in the back of your car) or high humidity,
or in dusty loca tions.
• Do not apply excessive pressure to the cutter lever.
• Do not try to print if the c assette is empty; it will damage the print head.
• Do not pull the tape while printing or feeding; it will damage the tape and the P-touch
labeler.
• Any data stored in memory will be lost due to failure or repair of the P-touch labeler,
or if the ba ttery expires.
• The P-touch labeler is not equipped w ith a charging feature for rechargeable
batteries.
• The length of the print ed label may differ from the displayed label length.
• A protective clear plastic sticker is placed over the display during manufacturing and
shipping. This sticker should be rem oved prior to use.
• When power is disconnected for more than three m inutes, all text, format settings and
any text files stored in the memory will be cleared.

Power Supply and T ape Cassette
Open the c assette cov er by pr essing the
above indicate d area at the top end of the
machine.
If a ta pe cas sette is alrea dy insta lled, remove it by
pulling it straig ht up. Also, i f batte ries are al ready
installed, remove them.

replacing ba tteries o r tape cassette s.
Insert six new AAA alkali ne batter ies
(LR03:not included) or fully charged Ni-
MH batteries ( HR03:not included),
making sure that their poles point in th e
correct d irections.
Users of alkaline batter ies:

Line Limit!
• You tried to ent er a 3rd li ne by pressing .
• You tried to pr int or previe w two lines of text while
0.13" (3.5mm ) or 0.23" (6 mm ) tape is installed. Insta ll
tape of a l arger size.
No Cassette!
You tried to p rint or previ ew a label when there is no
cassette installed.
Cutter Error
The tape cutter lever was used during the p rinting
process.
Text Ful l!
The maximu m number of chara cters (8 0 characters fo r
regular te xt) has alrea dy been entered.
Text Limit!
Since the numb er of enter ed characters exce eds the
label length, reduce the text, or select [A uto] as the
label length.
No Frame OK?
Printing on 0.13 " (3.5mm ) tape wi th invalid Fr ame
setting ON. (Select to pr int with no Fr ame,
to cancel.)
OK to Feed?
Feeding tape aft er printi ng when [Cha in Print] is
selected. Refer to “ Setting Margin” .

right corner o f the machine.
• Peel the printed l abel from the backi ng and apply th e label.
• You can print up to 9 copies of each labe l.

• To print more tha n 1 copy of a label with minim um margin, set
the margin to [Narrow].
• When [Chain P rint] is set, feed the tape before using the cutter
otherwise a part of the te xt may be cut off. Also, cut alon g the
printed dots ( ) with scissors so the text is cent ered in the l abel.
*Feed the tap e before using the cutter.
• Do not pull the tap e since this may damag e the tape cassette.
You can save up to 9 labels and recall them for printing at a later date. A
maximum of 80 characters can be saved per file, a maximum total of 720
characters for the total memory. You can also edit and overwrite the stored label.

USING TEMPLA TES
You can create a label that can be wra pped
around a cabl e or wire. The inp ut text line is
rotated 90° coun terclockwise and printed on a
label whose length is automati cally determined
by setting the cable d iameter.
With t he Cabl eRot /Rpt func ti on, t he tex t is print ed r epea tedl y al ong
the len gth of the la bel s o that it c an ea sily be rea d fr om an y a ng le.
• Cable diameter : 0.2" t o 3.6" (3mm to 90mm) available
Default: 0.3" (6mm)
• To activate the Txt Rpt fun ction, press and th en select
[CableRot/Rp t].
With this function, a label can be wrapp ed
around a cable or wire with its ends stuck
together to for m a flag. T he input text lin es
are printed at the both ends of a labe l.
You can sele ct t he desired flag lengt h. When [Aut o] is select ed, the
flag l ength is automat ical ly adj usted ac cordin g to the text le ngth.
• Flag length : 0.4" to 8.0" (10 mm to 200mm), A uto

• For labels attached to cables and wires, w e recommend using Flexib le
ID Tape. Use the cable flag function when th e diameter of the object
is less than 0.2" (3 mm).
• To deactivate the Cable W rap/Cable Flag/Faceplate fun ction duri ng

settings change back to standard .
• To clear all text, press , select [Text& Format] or [Text o nly], then
press . Press to ca ncel.
• Depending on the format you select, the entire conten ts of your te xt
may not be printed . For example, if the text is too lo ng to fit into th e
format, the "T ext Limit!" er ror messag e will appe ar.
• Text cannot be rotated in the Cable F lag functi on.
Labels printed wit h this function can b e used to identify variou s
components or pan els.
A block of text is even ly spaced on a single label .
• Faceplate length: 1.2" to 12.0" (30mm to 300mm)
Default: 2.0" (5 0mm)

To position the text appropriate ly for multiple po rts in a single
print, either use the chain print fun ction with the Faceplate length
equal to the port width, or enter the Facep late length equal to the
total length over all the ports a nd then use the tab function to
space out each port d ata.
Using the Seria lize function, you can print m ultiple labels with a
number or letter a utomatically increm ented on each label .
This serializing fu nction can also be use d with the Cable Wra p,
Cable Flag or F aceplate template s to save time enterin g and
printing a series of labels.
