BASIC USAGE

To ma ke t wo l in es o f te xt , d o on e of fol l owin g:

Enter the tex t for the first line and then press for the
second li ne.
b)
Move the curso r to where the second line starts and pr ess
.
Use eithe r 9mm or 12m m w ide tape for two line tex t.
NOTE
Do not pres s after the second line; otherwise the “Line Lim it!”
error message will ap pear.
X To Clear
By pressing , the letters will be deleted one by one.

X Changing Label Lengt h
NOTE
• After the labe l is printed, cut alon g the printed do ts (:) with
scissors so that the la bel length matches th e P-touch setting.
• If a specific label length has been selected, also appears in
the LCD.
X Preview
You can preview the text before printi ng.
Only the text can be previewed , not the size, font or any
additional featur es.
X Feeding (T ape Feed)
X Printin g
• If you need onl y 1 copy of the label, pr ess without
selecting the num ber of copies.
• The number o f copies can also be spe cified by pressing a
number key.
• To prevent dama ge to the tape, do not touch the cutter leve r
while the message “P rinting...” or “Feeding...” is displayed.
• To cut off the label, push in the tape cutter lever on the upper-
right corner of the P-touch.
• Peel the pri nted label from th e backing and ap ply the label.
• You can print up to 9 copies of each l abel.
X Setting Ma rgin
[Full]/[Half]/[ Narrow]
For leaving e qual margins on b oth sides of the text.
[Chain Print]
For creating a l abel containing text i n various styles.
1. Enter text.
2. Press , then [Copies: ] appears.
3. Press / or enter numb er with number keys to
sel ect th e nu mbe r o f co pi es.
4. Press . Printin g will start, and then the m essage
“OK to Feed? ” appears.
5. Press to ente r more text.
6. Clear the text, ente r the text for the next label , and then
press .
7. When the message “OK to Feed ?” appea rs after the l ast
label is printe d, press .
8. After the tape is fed , press the cutter lever to cut off the
chain of labels.
NOTE
• Whe n [Half] or [Narrow] is set, the displayed la bel length is the
length from the printed do ts ( ) to the end of the l abel.
• To print m ore than 1 co py of a label with m inimum margin, se t
the margin to [Narr ow].
• Whe n [Chain Print] is set, feed the tape before using the cutter
otherwise a part of the text may be cut off. A lso, cut along the
printed dots ( ) with scissors so the text is centred in the label.
*Feed the ta pe before using the cutter.
• Do n ot pull the tape since this may damage the tape cassette.
You can save up to 9 labels and reca ll them for p rinting at a later
date. A maximum of 80 characters can be saved p er file. You can
also edit and o verwrite the stored label.

NOTE
If you try to store a label when there is al ready a label stored to that
number, a message “O verwrite?” w ill appear. P ress to save
your new lab el. Press to cancel.
If the cutte r blade becomes b lunt after repetitive use and th e tape
cannot be cut cleanl y, turn ar ound the cutter board as shown i n the
illustration 1.
If you still have diffi culty replace with a new cutter unit (stock no .
TC-4) b y obtaining one fro m an author ised Brother reseller.
X Replacing the Cutt er Un it
1. Pull out the two sections o f the cutter unit (g reen) in the
direction of the arr ows shown in the illustra tion 2.
2. Install the new cutter uni t. Push it in until it snap s into
place.
You can r eset the P-tou ch when you want to initialise th e settings,
or in the ev ent the P-touch is not w orking prop erly.

USING TEMPLATES
The P-t ouch comes installe d with pr eset lab el design s. You ca n
easily cre ate labe ls us ing these design s.
Example:
If [Surprise!] is selected , a frame , style and grap hics are selected rando mly.
This funct ion allows you to create uni que label s by using bui lt-i n templates.
Example:
NOTE
• Depending on t he format you hav e selected, the ent ire contents of your text may
not be printed. For ex ample, if you selected a f ixed Label Length and the text is too
long, the “Tex t Limit!” error message w ill appear. (Only for DECO MO DE function)
• The template designs cannot be edited.
• Only the highlighted symbols in “Symbol Key” can be us ed in DECO MODE.
• To clear all text, press , and “Clear?” appears. Press t o clear. Press
to cancel.
• When you access DECO MOD E or Auto Designs, your most r ecently printed
DECO MO DE or Auto Designs text and label length w ill be recalled.
• Press to return to the previous step.
• To exit D ECO MODE or Auto Designs and return to the text input scre en, press
/ to s elect [Cancel], and then press when [Print] is displayed.
• The DECO M ODE features are only available when using 12m m tape cassettes.
• The maximum labe l length is 200 mm for t he DECO M ODE.
• When [Surprise!] is selected in A uto Designs, label length will not be displayed in
the text input screen.
• When [Auto] is select ed for “Label Length”, the label will automatically adjust to th e
correct length for the text.
• Press to return t o the [Auto] setting for “Label Length” mode.
Press to select the frame design.
NOTE
Frames cannot be p rinted on 3.5mm tape.
NOTE
With the C able Label function, [Auto] i s autom atically selected fo r
the label leng th and [Full ] for the margin s.

Only the highlighted symbols ca n be used in DECO M ODE.
To enter Picto graph symbols :
The selected symbol is displayed as “A1 ” in the text input screen.
