With your PT-1000, you can crea te labels for any appl ication. Select from the many fra mes, character
sizes and styles to d esign beautiful cu stom labels. In addition, the va riety of tape cartridges a vailable
allows you to prin t labels with different widths and exciting col ours.

GENERA L PR ECAUTION S
• Use Bro ther TZe tapes w ith this machine.
• Do not pull on the tap e being fe d from th e P-touc h, oth erwis e the tape cass ette
may b e da maged.
• Do not attempt t o cut the tape while pr inting or feeding since this will da mage the tape.
• Do not clean the machin e with alcohol or other organic s olvents. Only use a soft, dry
cloth.
• Remove the batteri es and disco nnect the AC adapte r if you do not inte nd to use t he
machine for an ex tended pe riod of ti me.
Note: If po wer is disc onn ecte d f or m ore t han thr ee minut es, all tex t sh own i n t he di s-
play and any text files stored in th e memory will be lost. Lan guage and unit
settings will also b e cleared.
• Do not put any foreign objects i nto or hea vy objects on the machine.
• Do not e xpose the machine to extremely h igh tem peratures or high hu midity. Ne ver
leave it o n the dash board or in the back of your car.
• Avoid usin g the mac hine in extremely d usty places. Keep it o ut of bot h direct sunlight
and rai n.
• Do not le ave any ru bber or v inyl on th e machine f or an exte nded per iod of time, oth-
erwise th e machine may be stained.
• Do not t ouch the p rint head m echanism. If the head is touch ed, clean i t immedia tely
with a so ft wipe (e .g. a cotto n swab) to a void perm anent dam age.
• To avoid i njuries, do not touch the cutter 's edge.
• Use onl y the AC adap ter design ed exclu sively for th is machin e. Use of an y oth-
er adap ter may v oid the war ranty.

Remove the ba ck cover by pre ssing in th e roug h area at the top end of the mach ine.
If a ta pe cassette is a lready installed, remove it by pulling it straigh t up. Also, if batteries are
already installe d, remove the m.

-1 Insert six new AAA-size (LR03) alkaline batteries, mak ing sure that their poles point in
the co rrect di rections .
Alway s replace all six batter ies at the sa me tim e using bra nd new one s.

• Make s ure that the end of the tape fe eds u nder
the ta pe guid es.
• Be sure t o remove the paper tab when in stall-
ing a new tape casse tte.
• If the ink rib bon is loose, use your finge r to
wind the toothed whe el in the direction o f the
arrow on th e cassette.
• Use Brothe r TZe tapes with thi s machine.

Attac h the bac k cover by inser ting th e two hoo ks at th e botto m into th e slots o n the
machi ne, then p ushing down firmly on the co ver until i t snaps int o place.
After y ou have inst alled the ta pe, feed th e tape (se e FEEDING) once and the n push in th e
tape cutt er lever to cut the tap e.

Supply power by using six AA A alkaline batteries or the AC adapter,
and then press a.

• To initialize the settings, turn off the machine and then while hold-

You can print many copies of the same text while increasing a selected num-
ber by 1 after each label is printed.

NOTE: • The last number that will be printed must be larger than the number selected in th e text,
otherwise the message ERRO R appears.

In additio n to the basic steps t o search for a fun ction, PT-1000 provi des you with funct ion
shortcuts so you can easily jump to a frequently used fun ction just by pressing
f and the
shortcut key shown in the table below. To confirm, press
e (or t he shortcu t key aga in).
NOTE: • PRINT OP co ntains two functions, REPEAT PRIN TING and NUMBERING .

Problem Solution
The display sta ys blank after y ou
hav e turned on the machine.
• Check that the batteries are c orrectly inserted.
• If the batter ies are weak, replace them.
• Check that the adapter is correctly connected.
The machine does not print, or the
printed characters are blurred.
• Check that the tape cassette has been inser ted
correctly .
• If the tape cassette is empty , replace it.
• Check that the character size is appropriate f or the
width of the tape that is used.
The printed characters are not
formed properly .
• If the batter ies are weak, replace them.
Striped tape appears. • The tape cassette is empty . Replace it.
The memory has cleared on its own. • The batter ies may be w eak. Replace them.
A blank horizontal line appears
through the printed label.
• There may be some dust on the print head.
Remove the tape cassette and use a dry cotton
sw ab to gently wipe the print head with an up-and-
down motion.
• The pr int head can be cleaned more easily if the
optional print he ad cleaning cassett e (TZe-CL3) is
used.
The machine has “locked up” (i.e.,
nothing happens when a key is
pressed, ev en though the machine is
on).
• T ur n off the machine, and then while holding down
f and d, press a to turn th e machine back
on. Finally , release
f and d.
Note: The text and f ormats in the display and all
text files stored in the memory are erased.
Also, the language and unit settings will be
cleared.
