8.5 Servicing your bike
Your bike is ready for its first service after three months.
Inspect the tyres and wheels. (Buckling, tension of spokes, tyre pressure and
condition)
Check all screws on the bike.
Brakes: Inspect wear on brake pads - Adjust cable tension -Check braking
effectiveness.
Inspect steering - Check fixture
Lubrication: Clean and grease the chain using an appropriate lubricant.
Electrical system: Charge the battery for 5 hours - clean the pedal sensor with a
sponge and warm water - Check that the electrics work properly.
Derailleur: Check that the gears change smoothly, and adjust if necessary.
Now perform annual maintenance.
8.6 Regular inspections
Check the following:
• Is the battery charged?
• Do the brakes work properly? Are the brake pads, bolts, and
screws tightened properly? Are the cables undamaged? Are the brake
surfaces clean? Are the brake pads worn?
• Is my bike properly adjusted? Are the seat and the handlebars
within the maximum authorised position? Is my handlebar aligned with
the front wheel?
• Is there still enough tension in the spokes? Are the wheels
buckled? Are any spokes broken? Are there any gaps in the wheels?
• Are my tyres properly inflated? Are they worn?
• Is the bracket properly tightened? Is the seat properly tightened?
• Do my lights work? Am I visible at night? Are the surfaces of the
reflectors clean? Are the reflective strips on my tyres in place, and if so,
are they clean?
• Does the assisted pedalling work properly?
