Technical Specifications
Loop Prevention
This unit can detect and prevent network loops that can cause
interference in the network.
What Is a Loop?
If both ends of an Ethernet cable are connected to the same hub, or
when multiple connections exist between two hubs, data may be sent
in a loop around the network, never getting to its destination and thus
wasting network capacity. This continuously circulating data may
interfere with other network communication.
Loop Prevention
Off : Loops are not blocked.
On : If a network loop is detected, the port will be blocked until the
loop is fixed. Also, the loop, link/act, and 1000 Mbps LEDs for the
blocked port will blink once per second.
Wall Mounting
The switch can be mounted to a wall using the supplied mounting
brackets or mounting holes on the bottom.
To mount the unit with the mounting brackets, install it as shown in the
figure below.
Installing on a 19-inch Rack
Install as shown in the figure below by using the supplied mounting
brackets.
Turning Loop Prevention On and Off
Use the switch on the front of the switch to turn loop prevention on and
off.
When a Loop Is Detected
Reconnect your Ethernet cabling, making sure that there are no
redundant connections.
Check Buffalo’s website or the product catalog for information about
the latest products or compatible models.
Troubleshooting
If you are unable to connect to a network, check the following:
• Is the power cable connected correctly? Also, is the power cable
plugged into an outlet or surge protector?
• Is the Ethernet cable connected correctly? Are any cables
disconnected or broken?
• Is the link/act LED on? If not, manually set the communication mode of
the connected hub or LAN adapter to 100M half-duplex or 10M
half-duplex.
* This unit automatically detects and adjusts for straight or crossover
Ethernet cables, so either type of cable may be used.
** Site-terminated Ethernet cables are not recommended. Always use
pre-assembled cables.
*** This function automatically recognizes the port link status and
adjusts the operating power accordingly.
Caution:
- While loop prevention is enabled, the switch will send a loop detection
packet through the network every two seconds. If these packets disrupt
your network in any way, disable loop prevention.
- Loop prevention cannot detect or block all types of loops.
Caution:
- Do not put floppy discs, magnetic cards, or other magnetic storage media
near magnets. Doing so may delete or corrupt data.
- If the switch is secured by the magnet kit alone, it should be no more than
75 cm (29.5 in) from the floor.

Installation
Precautions for Installation
• Do not install the device in an unstable location such as on an
unsteady table or an inclined surface.
• Do not place another hub or object that generates heat on top of this
unit.
• Please route all cables properly to prevent people from tripping over
them.
• Ensure the air vents on the product are not blocked by other
equipment or walls.
• Only use the power cable included with the product. Using other
power cables may result in damage or fire.
Floor or Shelf Mounting
Attach the supplied rubber feet to the bottom corners of the unit before
use.
Mounting to a Metal Surface
To mount to a metal surface on a steel desk, use the “BS-MGK-A Magnet
Kit” sold separately (Size: φ17×H3 mm, 4 pcs).
Attach the supplied rubber feet to the bottom corners of the unit before
using the magnet kit.

the dimensions shown below. Install the screws 85 mm (3.3 in) apart
and slide the mounting holes into the base of the switch over them.

Funzionalità antiricircolo
L’unità può rilevare e prevenire i ricircoli di rete che possono causare
interferenze nella rete.
Che cos’è un Ricircolo?
Se entrambi i capi del cavo Ethernet sono collegati allo stesso hub, o
quando esistono connessioni multiple tra due hub, i dati possono
essere mandati in ricircolo sulla rete, non giungendo mai a destinazione
e comportando quindi una perdita di capacità della rete. Il passaggio
continuo di dati può interferire con altre comunicazioni della rete.
Funzionalità antiricircolo
Spento : ricircoli non bloccati.
Acceso : se viene rilevato un ricircolo di rete, la porta sarà bloccata fino
a quanto il ricircolo non viene eliminato. Inoltre, i LED di
collegamento/azione e 1000 Mbps per la porta bloccata
lampeggeranno una volta al secondo.
Installazione a parete
Lo switch può essere montato a parete usando i supporti per il
montaggio inclusi o i fori per il montaggio nella parte inferiore.
Per installare l’unità con i supporti di montaggio, fare riferimento alla
figura seguente.
Installazione su armadio rack da 19 pollici
Installare secondo quanto indicato nella figura seguente utilizzando i
supporti di montaggio inclusi.
Attivare e disattivare la funzionalità antiricircolo
Usare lo switch anteriore per attivare e disattivare la funzionalità
antiricircolo.
Quando viene rilevato un ricircolo
Ricollegare i cavi Ethernet, assicurandosi che non ci siano connessioni
ridondanti.
Verificare sul sito di Buffalo o sul catalogo del prodotto per informazioni
sui prodotti più recenti o sui modelli compatibili.
Risoluzione problemi
Se non è possibile collegarsi alla rete, verificare che:
• Il cavo di alimentazione è collegato correttamente? Inoltre, il cavo di
alimentazione è collegato ad un’altra presa o ad un elemento di
protezione?
• Il cavo Ethernet è collegato correttamente? Ci sono cavi scollegati o
rotti?
• Il LED collegamento/azione è acceso? Se non lo è, impostare
manualmente la modalità di comunicazione dell’hub collegato o
dell’adattatore LAN su 100M half-duplex o 10M half-duplex.
* L’unità rileva e si regola automaticamente per i cavi Ethernet dritti o
incrociati, quindi è possibile usare qualsiasi tipo di cavo.
** Cavi Ethernet interrotti non consigliati. Usare sempre cavi
preassemblati.
*** Questa funzione riconosce automaticamente lo stato del
collegamento della porta e adatta l’alimentazione di conseguenza.
Attenzione:
- Quando la funzionalità antiricircolo è abilitata, lo switch invierà un
pacchetto di rilevamento ricircoli nella rete ogni due secondi. Se questi
pacchetti interferiscono in qualche mondo con la rete, disabilitare la
funzionalità antiricircolo.
- La funzionalità antiricircolo non può rilevare o bloccare tutti i tipi di ricircolo.
Attenzione:
- Non mettere floppy disc, schede magnetiche o altri dispositivi di
archiviazione magnetici vicino alle calamite. Una simile operazione
potrebbe eliminare o danneggiare i dati.
- Se lo switch è vincolato solo dal kit magnetico, non deve essere posizionato
a più di 75 cm dal suolo.

Installazione
Precauzioni per l’installazione
• Non installare il dispositivo in una sede non stabile come ad esempio
un tavolo instabile o una superficie inclinata.
• Non posizionare un altro hub od oggetto che genera calore al su
questa unità.
• Posizionare adeguatamente tutti i cavi per evitare che le persone vi
inciampino.
• Assicurarsi che gli sfiati di aerazione del prodotto non siano bloccate
da altri dispositivi o da muri.
• Usare solo il cavo di alimentazione fornito con il prodotto. L’uso di altri
cavi di alimentazione può comportare danni o causare incendi.
Installazione a pavimento o su scaffale
Prima dell’uso attaccare i piedini in gomma inclusi negli angoli inferiori
dell’unità.
Installazione su una superficie metallica
Per installare su una superficie metallica su un piano in acciaio, usare il
“BS-MGK-A Magnet Kit” venduto a parte (dimensione: φ17×H3 mm, 4 pz).
Prima di usare il kit magnetico attaccare i piedini in gomma inclusi negli
angoli inferiori dell’unità.
