Detachable Controller Electric Blankets
Connecting the Controls
When the blanket is securely attached to the mattress, connect the controls by inserting the connector plug
into the sockets. Ensure the plug is firmly inserted then connect the plug to the power point and switch on.
The flexible cord and switch must be kept outside the bed and away from open windows or exposure to
moisture.
Using Your CARMEN Electric Blanket
On First Fitting Your Electric Blanket
As most beds and bedding absorb moisture, your electric blanket has to drive out this moisture before being
able to operate to its fullest potential. Therefore, on the first day of use, it is recommended you switch your
electric blanket on the highest setting for 3-4 hours before going to bed. You may notice a slight odour due
to the blanket’s newness, which is completely harmless and will quickly disappear.
Heat Controller
The CARMEN heat controller comes with an easily adjustable temperature slide switch, braille markings, and
a power indicator light with a heat setting display.
For maximum comfort the CARMEN Heat controller offers the following settings:
0 = Off
1 = Low Heat (Suitable for all night use)
2 = Medium Heat
3 = High Heat (Ideal for preheating the bed)
Normal Day to Day Operation
It is recommended that the cord switch is set on Setting ‘3’ for 1 to 2 hours before going to bed and then
can be turned down to Setting ‘2’ or ‘1’ or off altogether depending on your own requirements whilst in
bed.
Watchdog Safety Timer
Should you forget to turn your blanket off after you get out of bed, the digital controller has a 6 hour safety
timer. This means the blanket will automatically switch off 6 hours after the last adjustment was made to
the controller.
Important
Check daily that your blanket is flat, fully spread out and secured before switching on.
FAILURE TO OBSERVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS WILL CAUSE OVERHEATING. THIS WILL ACTIVATE OUR OVERHEAT
SAFEGUARD SYSTEM, THUS LEAVING THE BLANKET INOPERATIVE, VOIDING ALL WARRANTIES.
Note: No user serviceable parts inside. Unauthorised modification voids warranty. Return to place of
purchase for replacement or service under warranty.

Recommended Cleaning and Storage Instructions
Electric Blankets feature waterproof heating elements, rendering them suitable for localised cleaning at the
least. Some models feature detachable controllers which makes them safe to be fully hand washable. It
is not recommended that you wash your electric blanket in a washing machine as this process may
harm your blanket, effecting its ability to operate efficiently.
Below, are two recommended methods for washing your electric blanket. Please ensure the blanket is
turned off and disconnected from the power outlet before cleaning commences.
Spot Cleaning
The area affected should be sponged gently using a natural OR NEUTRAL wool detergent or mild soap flakes
in lukewarm water, followed by two spongings with clean lukewarm water. Lightly compress the treated
area between two towels to absorb excess water. The connections to the blanket should be kept free of
moisture as much as possible.
Hand Washing
Please ensure all controls are unplugged from the electric blanket before cleaning.
Place your blanket in lukewarm water mixed with either a natural wool detergent or with mild soap flakes.
Soak your blanket for five minutes, then gently squeeze the soapy water through the blanket. Then with
clean, lukewarm water, rinse your blanket thoroughly, draining all excess water from the blanket. Do not
wring dry.
Note: Always disconnect the plug and controller before washing. Remove the controller from the blanket
before washing. Never expose the controller to any moisture or any liquids.
Machine Washing
1. Remove the detachable controller, never expose the controller to any moisture or water.
2. Presoak the blanket for 20 minutes in mild soap and lukewarm water.
3. Wash in mild soap and lukewarm water on the “delicate” or “gentle” cycle in the washer for two
minutes. Remember, do not use bleach.
4. Rinse in fresh, lukewarm water.
5. Spin dry in the washing machine. Then gently stretch to its original size.
Important Note: Do not use tumble dryers to dry the Electric Blanket, as they become too hot and will
damage the wiring of the Electric Blanket.
Drying
There are two options for drying the electric blanket.
1. By spreading the blanket out fl at (e.g. on a table) to dry in a shady area.
2. The blanket can be dried on a clothes line provided the blanket is not creased or folded and provided you
do not use pegs on the wired areas.
Note: Before using again, make sure that the blanket and control sockets are completely dry.
Storing Your Blanket
When you are not using your blanket for long periods of time you have two storage options.
1. Your blanket can stay on the bed permanently and be used as an underlay. Just remove the controls and
store in a safe, dry place.
2. Or alternatively, if you decide to take the blanket off your bed when not in use, loosely fold or roll up the
blanket to avoid creating sharp creases in the blanket. Place your blanket in a suitable storage bag and
then store in a position where no other objects will be placed upon it.
The detailed blanket specifications are presented on the attached tag on the blanket. The symbol meaning
