Operation Guide 3147

Note
• When a calibration time is reached, the watch will receiv e the calibration
signal only if it is in either the Timek eeping Mode or World Time Mode .
Reception is not performed if a calibration time is reached while y ou are
configuring settings.
• Auto receiv e of the calibration signal is designed to be perf ormed early in
the morning, while you sleep (provided that the Timek eeping Mode time is
set correctly). Bef ore going to bed f or the night, remov e the watch from y our
wrist, and put it in a location where it can receive the signal easily .
• The watch receives the calibr ation signal for tw o to sev en minutes e v eryday
when the time in the Timek eeping Mode reaches a calibration time . Do not
perform any b utton operation within se ven min utes before or after the
calibration times. Doing so can interfere with correct calibration.
• Remember that reception of the calibration signal depends on the current
time in the Timek eeping Mode. The receive operation will be perf ormed
whenev er the displa y shows an y one of the calibration times, regardless of
whether or not the display ed time actually is the correct time .
About the Signal Strength Indicator
The signal strength indicator shows the strength of the calibr ation signal
being received. For best reception, be sure to keep the watch in a location
where signal strength is strongest. The signal strength indicator is displa y ed
while an auto or manual receive oper ation is in progress.
• Even in an area where signal strength is strong, it tak es about 10 seconds
for signal reception to stabiliz e enough f or the signal strength indicator to
indicate signal strength.

• Use the signal strength indicator as a guide for chec king signal strength
and for finding the best location f or the watch dur ing signal receive
operations.
• Following reception of the time calibr ation signal and calibration of the
watch’s time setting, the Le v el 3 signal strength indicator will remain on the
display in all modes . The Level 3 signal strength indicator will not be
display ed if signal reception was unsuccessful or after y ou adjust the
current time setting manually .
• The Level 3 signal strength indicator is displa yed only when the watch is
able to receiv e both time and date data successfully . It does not appear
when only time data is received.
• The Level 3 signal strength indicator indicates that at least one of the auto
calibration signal receiv e operations was successful. Note, howe ver , that
the Lev el 3 signal strength indicator disappears from the displa y each da y
when the first auto receive oper ation of the da y is performed.
To perform manual receive
1. In the Timek eeping Mode , press E to display
the last successful receive time and date
screen.
2. Press E to enter the Receive Mode.
3. Hold down E for about tw o seconds until
starts to flash on the display .
• Time calibration signal reception takes from
two to sev en minutes . T ake care that you do
not perform any button oper ations or mov e
the watch during this time.
• If the receive operation is successful, the
reception date and time appear on the
display , along with the
GET indicator .
4. After manual receive is complete , press E
twice to return to the Timek eeping mode.
• The watch also will e xit the Receiv e Mode if
you do not perf orm any button oper ation for
about one or two minutes .

Receiving
Receive successful
• If the latest reception f ails but a pre vious
reception was successful, an indicator (
) will
be on the displa y .
The watch will enter the Receiv e Mode without
changing the time setting if you press E or if
you do not perf orm any button oper ation for
about one or two minutes .
Note
• T o interr upt a receive operation and return to
the Receive Mode , press E.

successful
To turn auto receive on and off
1. In the Timekeeping Mode , press E to displa y
the last successful receive time and date
screen.
2. Hold down A until the current auto receiv e
setting (
ON or OFF) star ts to flash. This is the
setting screen.
• Note that the setting screen will not appear if
the currently selected Home City is one that
does not support time calibration reception.
3. Press E to toggle auto receive on (
ON) and
off (
OFF).
4. Press A to exit the setting screen.
• F or information about city codes that support
signal receive, see “T o specify your Home City”.

Signal Reception T roubleshooting
Check the f ollowing points whene v er you e xperience problems with signal
reception.
• The watch is not in the Receive
Mode.
• Y our current Home City is not one
of the follo wing: LON , PA R , BER ,
AT H, HKG, TPE, TY O, LAX,
DEN, CHI, or NYC
• Y ou changed the time setting
manually .
• The DST setting was changed
manually in the World Time Mode .
•
Y ou pressed a butt on while signal
receive w as in progress .
• Even if receive is successful, the
Lev el 3 signal strength indicator
disappears from the display each
day when the first auto receiv e
operation of the day is perf ormed.
• Time data (hour, min utes,
seconds) only was receiv ed
during the last receive operation.
The Lev el 3 signal strength
indicator appears only when time
data and date data (year , month,
day) are both receiv ed.
Cannot perform
manual receiv e.
Auto receiv e is
turned on, but
the Lev el 3
signal strength
indicator does
not appear on
the display .
• Enter the Receive
Mode and try again.
• Select LON , PA R ,
BER, AT H, HKG,
TPE, TY O, LAX, DEN,
CHI, or NYC as your
Home City .
• Perf orm manual signal
receiv e or wait until the
ne xt auto signal
receiv e operation is
perf ormed.
• Check to make sure
the watch is in a
location where it can
receive the signal.
What you should doProblem Probable Cause
• If the time is one hour off, the
DST setting may be incorrect.
• The Home City code setting is
not correct for the area where y ou
are using the watch.
•
Change the DST
setting to A ut o D ST .
• Select the correct
Home City code.

• For further information, see “Important! ” under “Time Calibr ation Signal
Reception” and “Radio-controlled Atomic Timekeeping Precautions”.
Altimeter
The watch’s altimeter uses a pressure sensor to detect current air pressure ,
which is then used to estimate the current altitude based on ISA (International
Standard Atmosphere) preset v alues. Y ou can specify a reference altitude,
which the watch will use to calculate y our current altitude based on the value
you specify . Altimeter functions also include storage of measurement readings
in memory .
Important!
• This watch estimates altitude based on air pressure . This means that
altitude readings for the same location ma y v ary if air pressure changes.
• The semiconductor pressure sensor used by the watch f or altitude readings
is also affected b y temperature. When taking altitude readings , make sure
the watch is not subjected to temperature changes .
• T o av oid the eff ect of sudden temperature changes during readings, k eep
the watch on your wrist in direct contact with y our skin.
• Do not rely upon this watch f or altitude readings or perf orm button
operations while sky diving, hang gliding, or paragliding, while riding a
gyrocopter , glider , or any other aircraft, or while engaging in an y other
activity where there is the chance of sudden altitude changes.
• Do not use this watch f or taking altitude readings in applications that
demand prof essional or industrial level precision.
• Remember that the air inside of a commercial aircraft is pressurized.
Because of this, the readings produced b y this watch will not match the
altitude readings announced or indicated the flight crew .
