T o specify the illumination duration
1. In the Timek eeping Mode, hold down A f or about two
seconds until “SET” appears on the display .
• Note that keeping A depressed too long (for about
five seconds) will cause a diff erent type of setting
mode to be entered (page E-33).
2. Press C ten times to display the current illumination
duration

3. Press D to toggle the setting between
(1.5 seconds)

About the Auto Light Switc h
T urning on the auto light switch causes illumination to turn on, whenev er you position
your wrist as described below in any mode.
Moving the watch to a position that is parallel to the g round and then tilting it towards
you more than 40 degrees causes illumination to turn on.

• Always make sure y ou are in a safe place whenever you are reading the
display of the watch using the auto light switc h. Be especiall y careful when
running or engaged in any other activity that can result in accident or injury .
Also take care that sudden illumination by the auto light s witch does not
startle or distract others around you.

• When you are wearing the watch, make sure that its auto light switch is turned
off before riding a bicycle or operating a motor cycle or any other motor
vehicle. Sud den and unintended operation of the auto light switch can create a
distraction, which can result in a traffic accident and serious per sonal injur y .
T o turn the auto light switch on and off
In the Timekeeping Mode, hold down B for about three seconds to toggle the auto
light switch on (auto light s witch indicator displayed) and off (auto light s witch indicator
not display ed).
• The auto light switch indicator remains in all modes while the auto light s witch is
turned on.
• In order to protect against running down the battery , the auto light switch will turn off
automatically approximately six hours after y ou turn it on. Repeat the abov e
procedure to turn the auto light switch back on if you w ant.

Hand Home P osition Correction
The indicator disk and hour and minute hands of the watch can be thro wn off by
exposure to strong magnetism or impact. If this happens, you can correct analog
readings as required.
T o adjust home positions
1. In the Timek eeping Mode, hold down A f or about five
seconds until H-SET (
) and Sub ( ) appear .
2. Check the position of the indicator disk.
• The indicator disk is in the correct home position if it is
indicating 60 (12 o’clock position). If it is not correct,
use the D (+) and B (–) buttons to adjust it.
• After confirming that the indicator disk is in its correct
home position, press C.

3. Check the positions of the hour and minute hands.
• The hands are in the correct home positions if they
are pointed at 12 o’clock. If they aren’t, use D
(clockwise) and B (countercloc kwise) to adjust their
positions.
4. When everything is the wa y you want, press A to
return to regular timekeeping.
• This will cause the hour and minute hands to mov e to
the current Timekeeping Mode time and the indicator
disk to move to the 0 position.
• Pressing C here will return to the setting at the
beginning of step 2.

Button Operation T one
The button operation tone sounds any time y ou press one
of the watch’ s buttons. Y ou can turn the button operation
tone on or off as desired.
• Even if y ou turn off the button operation tone, alarms,
the Hourly Time Signal, and other beepers all oper ate
normally .

• The mute indicator is displa yed in all modes when the button operation tone is
turned off.
Auto Return Features
• If you leav e the watch with a flashing setting on the display for tw o or three minutes
without performing any operation, the w atch will exit the setting mode automatically .
• The watch will return to the Timekeeping Mode automatically if you do not perf orm
any operation f or two or three minutes in the Alarm Mode.

High-Speed Movement
• The D and B buttons are used to change setting in v arious setting modes. In most
cases, holding down these b uttons will start high-speed movement.
Initial Screens
When you enter the Stopwatch Mode , W orld Time Mode or Alarm Mode, the data y ou
were viewing when y ou last exited the mode will appear first.
Timekeeping
• Resetting the seconds to while the current count is in the range of 30 to 59
causes the minutes to be increased by 1. In the range of 00 to 29, the seconds are
reset to
without changing the minutes.
• The year can be set in the range of 2000 to 2099.
• The watch’ s built-in full automatic calendar makes allowances f or different month
lengths and leap years. Once you set the date, there should be no reason to change
it except when battery has replaced.
• The current time for all city codes in the Timekeeping Mode and W or ld Time Mode is
calculated in accordance with the Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) for each city ,
based on your Home City time setting.

Illumination Precautions
• Illumination may be difficult to see when vie wed under direct sunlight.
• Illumination turns off automatically whenever an alarm sounds.
• Illumination turns off automatically depends on the current illumination duration
setting.
• F requent use of illumination runs down the battery .
Auto light s witch precautions
• Av oid wearing the watch on the inside of your wrist. Doing so causes the auto light
switch to operate when it is not needed, which shortens battery life. If you want to
wear the watch on the inside of y our wrist, tur n off the auto light s witch feature.
• Illumination may not turn on if the face of the w atch is
more than 15 degrees abov e or below parallel. Make
sure that the back of your hand is par allel to the ground.
• Illumination turns off in about 1.5 seconds or 3 seconds,
ev en if you keep the w atch pointed towards your f ace.

• Static electricity or magnetic force can interf ere with proper operation of the auto
light switch. If illumination does not turn on, tr y moving the watch bac k to the starting
position (parallel with the ground) and then tilt it back to ward you again. If this does
not work, drop your arm all the wa y down so it hangs at your side, and then bring it
back up again.
• Under certain conditions, illumination may not turn on until about one second after
you turn the face of the watch to wards you. This does not necessarily indicate
malfunction of the auto light switch.
• Y ou ma y notice a very faint clic king sound coming from the watch when it is shaken
back and f orth. This sound is caused by mechanical operation of the auto light
switch, and does not indicate a prob lem with the watch.
