• When the Digital Piano is being operated on battery power on ly, notes may sound distorted when
performing or playing back a song at maximum volume. This is du e to the difference between AC adaptor
power and battery power, and does not indicate Digital Piano malfunction. If you notice distortion, switch to
AC adaptor power or lower the volume level.

Supported Oper ations
■ Using the AC Adaptor
Make sure that you use only the AC adapt or specified for
this Digital Piano. Use of a dif ferent type of A C adaptor can
cause malfunction.
• Never connect the AC adaptor (JEITA Standard, with
unified polarity plug) that comes with this Digital
Piano to any other devi ce besides this Digita l Piano.
Doing so creates the risk of malfuncti on.
• Be sure to turn off Digital Piano power before
connecting or disconnecting the AC adaptor.
• The AC adaptor will become w arm to the touch after
very long use. This is normal and does not indicate
malfunctio n.

Getting Ready
Preparing a Power Supply

■ Using Batteries
• Be sure to turn off powe r before loading batteri es.
• It is up to you to prepa re six comm ercially av ailable
alkaline batteri es.
• Note the following precautions w hile the Digital Piano
is turned upside down to load batteries.
− Take care to avoid injury due to pinching you r
fingers under the Digital Piano.
− Do not allow the Digital Piano to tip over or
otherwise be subjecte d to strong impact. Im pact
can damage the volume knob and keyboard keys.

Open the battery cover on the bottom of the Digital
Piano.
2.
Load six AA-size bat teries into the battery
compartment.
Make sure the positive + and negative - ends of the
batteries are facing as marked on the Digit al Piano.
3.
Insert the tabs of the b attery cover into the hol es on
the side of the battery com partment, and close the
cover.
■ Low Battery I ndication
The message “LOW BATTERY” ap pears on the display
when battery power go es low. When this happens, replace
the batteries.
• Using the Digital Pi ano while batteries are very low
can cause i t to turn off suddenly. This can cause data
stored in Digit al Piano mem ory to be corr upted or
lost.

Before turning on power, rotate the 2 volume
knob as far as i t will go in the direction shown in the
illustrat ion below.

Press the 1P (Power) button to turn on power.
The message “Welcome” wil l appear momentarily,
followed by the ton e name display. This ind icates that
the Digital Pi ano is ready for use.
• Power may not turn on if you p ress the 1P
(Power) button too lightly. This doe s not indicate
malfunction. I f this happens, apply more pr essure
when you press t he 1P (Power) button.

Use the 2 volume knob to adjust volume.
4.
To turn off power, hold down the 1P (Power)
button until “Bye” appears on the display.
NOTE
• Pressing the 1P (Power) button to turn of f power
actually puts the Digital Piano in to a standby state.
Minute amounts o f current continue to flow within the
Digital Piano in the standby state. If you do not plan to
use the Digital Pia no for a long ti me or if there is a
lightning storm in your area, be sure to unplug the AC
adaptor from th e power outlet.
■ Power On Alert
After about six min utes of non-o peration while the Dig ital
Piano is being po wered by its AC adap tor, the Power O n
Alert function will cause touch button lights to turn on and off
sequentially to remind you that power i s on.
Button lights will return to normal if you touch a button, play
something on the keyboa rd, or perform some other
operation. To t urn off power, hold down the 1P (Power)
button until “Bye ” appears on the display.
■ Auto Power Off
This Digital Piano is designed to turn off automatically to
avoid wasting po wer after no op eration is performe d for a
preset amount of time. The Auto Powe r Off trigger t ime is
about four ho urs when power is being sup plied by the AC
adaptor, or six minut es under batter y power.
• You can disable Auto Power Off to avoid power turning
off durin g a concert or any other time it is undesirable. To
disable Auto Power Off, perform the following FUNCTION
parameter operation: “SYSTEM” 3 “Aut o Power Off” 3
“Off”. To re -enabl e Auto Pow er Off , change th e settin g
back to “On”. For information about FUNCTION
parameters, se e “Configuring Function Settings
(FUNCTION Mode)” (page 4/4).
Turning Power On or Off
■ DAMPER PEDAL jack
Connect the provided Damper Pedal (SP-3) to the Digital
Piano’s cr DAMPER PEDAL jack. You can change the
function of this peda l by using the f ollowing FUNCTION
parameter operati on: “PEDAL/WHEEL” 3 “DAMPER
PEDAL” 3 “Pedal Targe t”.
For information about FUNCTION parameters, see
“Configuring Fun ction Settings (FUNCTION Mode)”
(page 4/4).
■ PEDAL UNIT jack

Use the cs PEDAL UNIT jack to con nect a separately
available Pedal Unit (SP-34). You can then use the pedals
for expression that is similar to that availabl e on an acoustic
piano.
■ EXPRESSION/ASSIGNABLE jack

Use the dl EXPRESSION/ASSIGNABLE jack to connect
a commercially available expression peda l or a CASIO
sustain pedal (included SP-3 or separately available pedal).
• For information about connectable expression
pedals, be su re to refer to the Use r’s Guide tha t is
available fr om the CASIO Web site.
Using headphones c uts off output from the built -in speakers,
which means you can pra ctice playing eve n late at night
without disturbing oth ers.
• Be sure to turn down the volume level befo re connecting
headphones.
• Headphones do not come with the Digital Piano.
• Use commercially available he adphones. See
“Separately Available Acce ssories” (this page) for
information abo ut options.
• Do not listen to very high volume outpu t over
headphones for long period. Doing so creates the
risk of hearing damage.
• If you are using headphones that require an adaptor
plug, make sure you do not leave the adaptor
plugged in when you unplug the headphones. If you
do, nothing will sound from the speakers when you
play.
Using a Pe dal

Using Headphones
■ Front Panel
Touch Buttons
Turning on Digital Pian o power causes all of t he touch buttons to light, except for the 1P (Power) button. The ab ove
illustration shows when all but tons and their text are lit. During actual oper ation, only t he buttons that are currently enabled
and the applicable t ext are lit or fl ashing.

Turning on Digital Pia no power causes touch butt ons to light.
• The buttons and button text that is lit depends on t he current operational st atus of the Dig ital Piano. F or example, turning
on Digital Piano power automatically ent ers the RHYTHM mode,*

so the buttons a nd text shown below become lit.
• Touching th e 3 mode selector button twice will enter the SONG Mo de,*

which changes the lighting as sho wn below.
Only the ena bled buttons and t ext indicatin g available functi ons are lit or fla shing.

• When operating a touch button, touch it firmly with a bare finger. Touch buttons will not respond if you touch
them while wearing gloves.
• If a touch button does not respond, perform the steps below to increase touch button sensitivity.

Turn off the Digital Piano.
2.
While holding down the C8 keyboard key (the one on the far right), press the 1P (Power) b utton.
• Keep the C8 keyboar d key depressed unt il the “Welcome” message appears on the display. You do not need t o
keep the 1P (Power) button depressed.
■ Touch Button Light Auto Off (Panel Lig ht Setting)
To save power, you can configure a setting that will turn off all button lights , except fo r 3 Mode selector, a fter a ce rtain
period of non-o peration.

Touch Button Operations
■ Mode Selector Button
Your Digital Piano has three modes, which are d escribed below.
Touch the 3 Mode selector button to cycle between the three modes.
An indicator above or below the mode selector butto n will light to indicate th e currently selected mode. Other mo de names are
not displayed.
■ ^ Button
You can use the bp^ button to cycle between four different function types for the six buttons (bq to cl ) on t he right side of
the Digital Piano’s fro nt panel.
Touch bp^ to cycle between t he different fu nction types. An indicat or to the right of the bp^ button will light to indicate the
currently selected f unction type.
Example: Buttons bq to cl are configured as shown below whe n “CTRL” is select ed (lit).
RHYTHM Mode: This is the mode for most basic operations. In addition to normal keyboard p lay use this mode to perform
most other Digit al Piano operations.
ACCOMP Mode: This mode is for p laying Auto Accompaniment with chords. See “Using Auto Accompanimen t” (page 2/4).
SONG Mode: Use this mode to pla y back songs. See “Listening to Songs (MIDI Pla yer)” (page 3/4).
While this function name is lit: Buttons bq through cl perform these operations:
TONE Tone category selection
RHYTHM Rhythm category selection
CTRL DSP selection, transpose setting changes, knob set selection, arpeggiator /auto
