USER’ S GUIDE 2471

• This watch employs a solar cell that con verts light into electr icity that
charges a built-in rechargeab le batter y . Normally , the rechargeable batter y
should not need replacement, but after v ery long use over a number of
years, the rechargeab le battery may lose its ability to achie ve a full charge.
Should you notice prob lems with getting the rechargeable battery to a full
charge, contact y our dealer or CASIO distributor about having the
rechargeable battery replaced.
• The rechargeable battery should be replaced with a CASIO-specified
CTL1616 battery only . Other rechargeab le batteries can cause damage to the
watch.
• Having the battery replaced will delete all data stored in watch memory .
• T ur n on the watch’s P ower Saving function and k eep it in an area normally
e xposed to bright light when stor ing it for long periods. This helps to keep
the rechargeable battery from going dead.
Battery Po wer Indicator
The battery power indicator on the display shows y ou the current status of the
rechargeable battery’ s po wer .
• The flashing CHARGE indicator at Level 3 tells y ou that battery power is
v er y low , and that e xposure to bright light for charging is required as soon
as possible .
• At Lev el 4, all functions are disabled. Functions are enabled once again after
the rechargeable battery is charged, but anything pre viously stored in memory
is lost. Because of this, y ou need to set the current time and date after the
battery is recharged to Level 2 from Le vel 4. Though the time appears on
the display after the battery is charged to Le vel 3, you will not be ab le to
change the time setting until the battery reaches Lev el 2.
• Leaving the watch in direct sunlight or some other v ery strong light source
can cause the battery power indicator to temporarily show a reading that is
actually higher than the battery level. The correct battery power indicator
should appear after a f ew minutes.
• If you use the backlight or the alarm a number of times during a shor t
period, RECO VER appears on the display and the f ollowing operations
become disabled until battery power reco vers.
Backlight; Alarm and hourly time signal; Sensor oper ation
After some time, battery power will recov er and RECOVER will disappear ,
indicating that the abov e functions are enabled again.
• Even if battery power is at Lev el 1 or Lev el 2, the Digital Compass Mode,
Barometer/Thermometer Mode, or Altimeter Mode sensor may be disab led
if there is not enough voltage a vailable to po wer it sufficiently . This condition
is indicated on the displa y as shown in the table below . Sensor operation
should resume when battery voltage returns to the nor mal lev els.

Charging Precautions
Cer tain charging conditions can cause the watch to become very hot. A void
leaving the watch in the areas described below whene ver charging its
rechargeable battery .
Also note that allowing the watch to become v er y hot can cause its liquid
crystal display to black out. The appearance of the LCD should become
normal again when the watch retur ns to a lower temperature .
Warning!
Leaving the watch in bright light to char ge its rechargeable battery can
cause it to become quite hot. T ake care when handling the watc h to
av oid burn injury . The watch can become par ticularly hot when exposed
to the following conditions f or long periods.
• On the dashboard of a car parked in direct sunlight
• T oo close to an incandescent lamp
• Under direct sunlight
Charging Guide
After a full charge, timekeeping remains enab led for up to about fiv e months,
while the watch is used under the conditions described below .
Operating Conditions
•
W atch is not exposed to light
•
Display on 18 hours per da y , sleep state 6 hours per day
•
1 backlight operation (2 seconds) per da y
•
10 seconds of alarm operation per day
•
10 digital compass operations per week
•
1 climb using the pressure sensor per month (10 hours per climb , with the
Long Mode)
Charge Times
Exposing the watch to light for the periods sho wn below each day restores
the power used by the abo ve operating conditions .
• Stable operation is promoted by frequent charging.

ERR
indicator
• After battery power drops to Lev el 4, the watch performs a memory check
when power is restored from Le vel 3 to Le vel 2. The message ERR appears
on the display if any memory abnormality is discovered. If this happens ,
take the watch to an authorized CASIO distrib utor or maintenance ser vice
provider .
• Even if battery power is at Le vel 1 or Le vel 2, the Digital Compass Mode,
Barometer/Thermometer Mode, or Altimeter Mode sensor may be disabled
if there is not enough voltage a vailable to po wer it sufficiently . In this case,
the ERR message appears on the display when y ou switch to the
Timekeeping Mode. This does not indicate malfunction, and sensor
operation should resume once battery voltage returns to its nor mal lev el.
• Even if battery power is at Le vel 1 or Le vel 2, the ERR message will appear
on the Timekeeping Mode screen if there is not enough v oltage availab le to
power the pressure sensor sufficiently during a barometric pressure
measurement or memory measurement (altitude) operation. This does not
indicate malfunction, and sensor operation should resume once battery
voltage returns to its normal level.
Whenev er you ha ve a sensor malfunction, be sure to take the w atch to an
authorized CASIO distributor or service provider as soon as possible.
