AB. It rep resen ts the stat e-of-t he-ar t tech nolog y for batte ry cha rging . A M45 will prolon g the
life time o f you r batt ery . Read this u ser m anual and f ollow the i nstruc tions caref ully before usin g
the charge r .
SAFETY
• The charge r is design ed fo r lead -acid batte ries from 1 ,2-12 0Ah. D o not use t he ch arger for
any other purpo se.
• Use safety glas ses an d tur n your head away when connec ting or dis conne cting a bat tery .
• Batt ery ac id is coros ive. Rinse immed iately with water if a cid co mes i nto co ntact with skin or
eyes . Seek medi cal ad vice.
• Make sure that the ca ble i s not being pinch ed or in co ntact with warm surfac es or sharp
edge s.
• Whil e char ging, a bat tery can em it ex plosiv e gas es, so it i s impo rtant to av oid s parks in th e
imme diate area.
• Alwa ys pro vide for pr oper ventil ation durin g cha rging.
• Avo id cov ering the charge r .
• Make sure that the el ectri cal ca ble d oes no t com e into cont act wi th wa ter .
• Neve r char ge a frozen batt ery .
• Neve r char ge a damage d bat tery .
• Do n ot pla ce th e char ger o n the batte ry whi le ch arging .
• The electr ical connec tion must f ulfil the n ation al hea vy cu rrent requi rement s.
• Chec k the cabli ng in the c harger befo re use . Mak e sure ther e are no cr acks i n the cabli ng or
in t he pro tecti ve cov ering . A char ger w ith da maged cable s may not b e use d.
• Alwa ys che ck th at the char ger ha s gon e over to m ainten ance chargi ng mo de bef ore l eaving
the charge r una ttende d and conne cted for lo ng pe riods. If t he cha rger had no t gon e over
to m ainten ance chargi ng wi thin 3 days , this is a n indi catio n of a prob lem. I n thi s case the
char ger mu st be disco nnect ed man ually .
• All batter ies f ail so oner or lat er . A b attery that fails duri ng cha rging is no rmall y take n car e of
by t he cha rgers advan ced c ontrol , but certa in un common erro rs in the b attery can still arise .
Don’ t leav e the batte ry ch arger unatt ended for a longe r per iod of time .
• Only mount the charge r on a flat surf ace.
• This equip ment may no t be used b y chi ldren or by those who can no t rea d and under stand
the manual if t hey ar e not super vised by a respo nsible pers on who can guaran tee t hat th e
batt ery ch arger is be ing u sed in a sa fe man ner . Store and u se the batt ery ch arger out o f the
reac h of c hildr en. Ma ke su re tha t chi ldren do no t play with the b atter y char ger .
BA TTER Y TYPES AND SETTINGS
M45 can ea sily be con figur ed to charg e many dif feren t type s of 12V le ad-ac id bat terie s; wet
batt eries, MF , AGM och for m ost G EL-bat terie s.
The follow ing r ecomme ndati ons sh ould, howev er , on ly be seen as gui delin es. Wh en in doubt ,
alwa ys con sult the ba ttery manuf actur er for furt her in struc tions.
Sett ings a re ma de by press ing th e “MO DE-but ton” and st eppin g forw ard b y pres sing the bu tton
one step a t a t ime, r eleas ing th e but ton wh en th e requ ired mode i s rea ched.
Mode 14.4V /0.8A
This mode is no rmally used for < 14Ah batter ies.
Mode 14.4V /3.6A
Norm al set ting for we t bat teries , MF and fo r mos t GEL batteri es.
Mode 14.7V /3.6A
This setti ng is recom mende d for batte ries a t tem peratu res
belo w 5°C. It i s also reco mmende d for many AGM b atteri es.
This setti ng is not r ecomm ended for m ainten ance chargi ng
when the t emper ature at ti mes ex ceeds +5°C. In t his ca se, t he
14.4 V/3.6A mode is re commen ded.
CHARGING
Char ging b atter ies mo unted in a vehic le:
1. The po wer c ord s hould be di sconne cted before conn ecting or d isconn ectin g the batte ry
lead s.
2. I dentif y the pole that is gro unded (atta ched to the chas sis). Groun d is n ormal ly con necte d to
the negati ve te rminal .
3. C hargin g a n egativ ely g rounde d bat tery . Conn ect t he red wire to th e pos itive pole of the
batt ery an d the black cabl e to t he ve hicle’ s ch assis . Be c arefu l not to co nnect the b lack c able in
the vicini ty of a fue l pip e or t he ba ttery .
4. C hargin g a p ositiv ely g rounde d bat tery . Conn ect t he bla ck wi re to the n egativ e pol e of t he
batt ery an d the red c able to the vehi cle's chass is. Be care ful no t to connec t the red c able in the
vici nity o f a f uel pi pe or the b atter y .
Char ging o f a b attery not connec ted t o a ve hicle :
1. The po wer c ord s hould be di sconne cted before conn ecting or d isconn ectin g the batte ry
lead s.
2. C onnect the red wi re to the p ositi ve pol e of the ba ttery and t he bl ack ca ble t o the negat ive
pole .
Conn ecting the provid ed ca bles w ith e yelet termi nals:
Make sure that the ca ble i s not being pinch ed or in co ntact with warm surfac es or sharp edge s.
When the c able is mou nted on the batt ery , it sh ould not be conn ected to th e char ger . Connec t
the eyelet term inals to th e batt ery's poles - th e red cable to th e pos itive pole and th e bla ck cab le
to t he neg ative pole. After this, the quick conta ct can be c onnect ed.

If t he bat tery cable s are conne cted incorr ectly , th e rev erse p olari ty pr otecti on wi ll ma ke sur e tha t
the charge r and the b atter y are not d amaged . In this c ase, the re d war ning l amp ( 0) wil l be lit.
Star t char ging
1. S et the prop er cha rging mode for t he bat tery by pus hing the Mo de bu tton u ntil the co rrect
sett ing is lit. Choos ing s etting s for your batte ry is descr ibed u nder ”BA TTERY TY PES AND
SETT INGS”.
2. W hen yo u are sure the b attery lead s are corre ctly p laced , conn ect t he pow er co rd to the
powe r outl et to begin char ging. If th e batt ery l eads a re wr ongly conne cted, the p ole-ch angin g
swit ch wil l ens ure th e bat tery a nd ch arger are n ot dam aged. The fault indi cator
wil l ligh t. In
whic h case star t from the beginn ing a gain.
3. The ch argin g lam p
wil l now indic ate ch argin g or t he ma intena nce l amp wil l indi cate
that the b atter y is f ully charge d. If the v oltag e drop s the charg er se nds a pulse to th e bat tery .
The length of t he pul se de pends on ho w much the voltag e has dropp ed. The c harger can be
conn ected for m onths.
4. I f noth ing h appens : If the vo ltage indic ator is lit but no oth er la mp is lit t here c ould be a b ad
conn ection to t he bat tery or cha ssis or the batt ery co uld b e faul ty . Check the w all p ower o utlet .

5. C hargin g can be st opped at an y tim e by d iscon nectin g the suppl y cor d or b y set ting t he
char ger on Stan dby . A lways remo ve the powe r cord from the p ower outlet befo re dis conne cting
the batter y lea ds fro m a b attery in a vehic le. W hen yo u sto p char ging a batt ery i n a ve hicle ,
remo ve the cabl e from the chassi s bef ore re movin g the other cable .
6. I f the charg er lam p and the m ainte nance- charg er lam p are ashi ng al ternat ely , the reason
for this i s due to:
• An i nterru ption durin g cha rging, due to a l oose connec tion or bec ause the ba ttery has
ceas ed to work.
• The batter y has becom e sul phated . If the la mps ash fo r mor e than 30 m inutes , thi s indi ca-
tes that t he ba ttery is de ad and need s to b e rep laced.
• If t here i s an interv al of more than 10 sec onds betwee n the ashe s, th is ind icate s that the
batt ery ha s a h igh se lf-di scharg e rat e and may n eed to be r eplace d.
CHARGING PHASES
M45 operat es in a fou r ste p full y aut omatic cycl e. It begin s char ging with a n alm ost co nstan t
curr ent (0 .8A or 3.6A ) unt il max imum volta ge (14 .4V o r 14. 7V) is reac hed. The c harge r cha nges
mode at th is po int. I t loc ks the volt age at maxi mum le vel a nd all ows t he cur rent to dro p. T he
M45 switch es au tomati cally to pu lse m ainten ance chargi ng wh en the curr ent dr ops t o 0.4A .
The chargi ng cy cle re start s if t he ba ttery volta ge dro ps to 12.9V .
Desu lphati on - Desulp hatio n with puls ing fo r sul phated batt eries.
Bulk - Cha rging where 80% of the ener gy is retur ned. The c harge r deli vers an alm ost c onstan t
curr ent un til t he bat tery voltag e rea ches m aximu m leve l.
Abso rption - Ch arging up t o almo st 10 0%. The ch arge curren t fal ls and the voltag e is kept
cons tant a t the maxim um le vel.
Puls e - Ma inten ance p hase, where the charge r del ivers a pul se if the b attery volt age dr ops.
Char ging v aries betwe en 95 % and 100%. The batte ry re ceives a pu lse wh en th e volt age
redu ces. K eep t he bat tery in goo d con dition when not i n use . Th e char ger c an be conne cted
for months .
TEMPERA TURE PROTECTION
M45 is pro tecte d from bein g over heate d. T he pow er wi ll be reduc ed if the a mbient temp eratur e
is r aised.
MAINTENANCE
The charge r is mainte nance free. Note that disas sembly of t he cha rger is not perm itted and
will void the w arrant y . If the power cord is dam aged, the c harge r must be l eft to the resell er fo r
main tenanc e. T he ca se can be c leaned with a sof t dam p clot h and mild clean ser . The c harge r
shou ld be disco nnecte d fro m the power while clea ning.
