Sleep
The radio automa tically turns off after a set time

When the sleep timer is set, “SLEEP” lights up on
the display .
Informa tion
Displays information for the st ation to which you
are listening. T urn TUNE/SELECT/ENTER
clockwise or counter clockwise to scroll thr ough
the following information:
Channel: Channel and frequency (See the D AB
frequency table in “Specifications. ”)
Multiplex name: Ensemble label (up t o
16characters long)
Service name: Station name
PTY : PTY label (See “PTY (pr ogramme type)” in
“Specifications. ”)
Bit r ate: Bit r ate
Signal level: Displays the signal level for the
DAB station t o which you are listening, ranging
from 0 (no signal) to 100 (maximum signal).
Note
If there is no ensemble label or no station name ,
the space for label or name will be blank. If there
is no PTY label, “No PTY” will appear on the
display .
FM tune mode
Select the tuning mode for FM.
By station list: Y ou can select the desired
station from the list of FM st ations store d by auto
tune.
When selecting this option, the display will
change to the FM station list. Select the desired
station from the list.
Manual tune: Y ou can manually tune to the
desired FM fr equency in 0. 05 MHz steps. T urn
TUNE/SELECT/ENTER clockwise or
counter clockwise to tune to the desir ed
frequency . In “Manual tune” mode , you can use
the scan tuning function (See “T o tune to FM
stations automatic ally (frequency sc an tuning)”
for details.).
Edit FM station list
Y ou can edit the FM station list.
Get FM station name: P erform this
operation when you w ant to re ceive RDS
information such as station names. Select “OK” to
start scanning for RDS data.
Notes
• Set “FM tune mode ” to “By sta tion list” before
you perform this operation.
• The currently stored RDS inf ormation will be
cleared onc e scanning starts.
• It may take a long time to rec eive all the
available RDS data.
About the FM auto tune

Y ou can canc el the FM auto tune proc ess
that starts after the FM function is
selected for the first time . However, if you
want to tune to st ations by station list,
you will need to perform FM auto tune .

Tips

Tips
• The backlight will turn off if no operation is performed for about 30 sec onds to minimize power
consumption.
• Alkaline batteries are r ecommended. The use of manganese batteries is not re commended, since
this type of battery has an extr emely short usage time.

Add FM station:
When listening to a
manually tuned station, you can add the station
to the FM station list. Select “OK” to add the
station to the list. Be sure to set “FM tune mode”
to “Manual tune” bef ore using this option.
Backlight
Auto: The backlight will turn off automa tically if
no operation is performe d for 30 seconds.
Always ON: The backlight will be on all the
time.
Time
Set time: “ Auto (D AB)” is set by default. This
enables the clock to synchroniz e with the DAB
data being re ceived. Select “Time setting” to set
the clock manually by using
TUNE/SELECT/ENTER.
12H/24H: Select the clock display mode,
12-hour clock or 24-hour clock.
Beep
Select “On” to activ ate the beep sound when you
operat e the radio.
DAB manual tune
If the rec eption is poor and rec eivable DAB
stations canno t be completely st ored by D AB
auto tune, try manual tuning.

Initialize

default settings. All settings, DAB and FM sta tion
lists and assignment information on the pr eset
buttons will be deleted.
Listening thr ough headphones
Connect headphones that have a st ereo or
monaural* mini plug (not supplie d).

Maintaining the moder ate volume level
The radio limits the maximum volume to allow
you to listen to the sound a t a moderat e volume
level when using the headphones. When you tr y
to adjust the volume to a level that e xc eeds the
specified level, the “Check The V olume Level”
message appears.
What is RDS?
Introduc ed by the European Br oadcasting Union
(EBU) in 1987 , the Radio Data System (RDS) allows
information such as station names t o be rec eived
via the 57 kHz sub-c arrier signal of FM
broadcasts. However , the availability of RDS data
varies depending on the area. It therefor e may
not be always be possible t o rec eive RDS
information.
Using the RDS functions
This radio supports the following RDS functions.

Notes
• The RDS functions will not be activated if the
FM station being re ceived is not tr ansmitting
RDS data. They may also not work properly in
areas wher e RDS transmissions ar e in the
experimental stage .
• If the radio signal being rec eived is weak, it
may take time t o rec eive the RDS data.
Pr ecautions
• Operate the unit only on the power sourc es
specified in “Specifications. ” F or battery
operation, it is rec ommended that you use four
LR6 (size AA) alkaline batt eries. For AC
operation, use only the supplied AC adapt or .
Do not use any other type of A C adaptor .
• Failure t o use the supplied AC adapt or may
cause the unit to malfunction, as the polarity
of the plugs of other manufactur ers may be
different.
• T o use the unit on battery power, unplug the
connector of the A C adaptor from the DC IN
jack. The unit cannot be power ed by batteries
if the connector of the A C adaptor is plugged
into the DC IN jack.
• Use the unit within a temperature r ange of 0°C
to 40°C. If it is used in tempera tures higher
than this range , the display may gradually turn
black. If it is used in temper atures lower than
this range , the display may change very slowly .
(These irregularities will disappear and ther e
will be no damage to the unit when the unit is
used in the rec ommended temper ature r ange
again.)
• Avoid exposure t o tempera ture e xtremes,
direct sunlight, moisture, sand, dust or
mechanical shock. Never leave in a car parked
in the sun.
• Do not expose the unit to strong impact or
ex cessive f orce . A glass material is used for the
display in some models. If the glass chips or
cracks, it may cause injury . In that c ase, stop
using the unit immediately and mak e sure not
to touch the damaged parts.
• Should any solid object or liquid fall into the
unit, disconnect the A C adaptor and remove
the batteries, and have the unit checked by a
qualified personnel befor e operating it any
further .
• Since a strong magnet is used f or the speakers,
keep personal cr edit car ds using magnetic
coding or spring-wound wa tches away fr om
the unit to prevent pos sible damage from the
magnetism.
• T o clean the casing, use a soft dry cloth. Do not
use any type of solvent, such as alcohol or
benzine, which may damage the finish.
• Do not operate the unit with wet hands sinc e it
may cause a short circuit.
• Do not mix an old battery with a new one or
mix different type of ba tteries.
• When you are not going to use the unit for a
long time, remove the batteries to avoid
damage from batt ery leakage and corrosion.
• Check if the batteries are inserted in the
corr ect orientation ( and ) when the r adio
does not turn on after batt ery replacement.
• Batteries have a recommende d use-by date for
proper use. When using expir ed batteries,
battery life will be extr emely shor t. Check the
use-by date on the batt eries and if they are
expir ed, replace them with new ones.
• Make sure not to splash w ater on the unit. This
unit is not wat erproof .
• Under certain circumstances, especially when
the air is very dr y , it is not uncommon to
experienc e a discharge of static electricity , or
shock, when your body comes in contact with
another object, in this case the ear buds
touching your ear(s). The energy from this
natural dischar ge is extremely small and is not
emitted by your product but r ather a natural
environmental oc currenc e.
• Listening at high volume levels over extended
periods of time may harm your hearing. Be
particularly careful when listening thr ough
headphones.
• Sudden loud output may harm your ears.
Increase the volume gr adually . Be particularly
careful when list ening through headphones.
• Do not use headphones while walking, driving
a car or motor cycle, cycling, etc. A traffic
accident may r esult.
• Do not use headphones in situations where
being unable to hear ambient sound is
dangerous, such as at railr oad crossings, on
train sta tion platforms, and at construction
sites.
• Excessive sound pr essure fr om earphones and
headphones can cause hearing los s.
If you have any questions or pr oblems
conc erning your unit, please consult your
near est Sony dealer .
T roubleshoo ting
Should any problem persist after you have made
the following checks, consult your nearest Sony
dealer .
Display is dim, or no indication is
displayed.
• The radio is being used in extr emely high or
low tempera tures or in a plac e with exc essive
moisture.
V ery weak or interrupted sound, or
unsatisfact ory rec eption.
• If you are in a building, listen near a window .
• Extend the antenna and adjust the length and
the angle for best re ception. See “T o improve
DAB/FM r adio rec eption” for details.
• If a mobile phone is placed close to the radio ,
a loud noise may be heard fr om the radio.
Keep the phone aw ay from the r adio.
Battery gets e xhausted very quickly .
• Check the estimated battery life described in
“Specifications” and be sure to turn off the
radio when not using it.
A desired st ation cannot be r eceived
when a prese t button is pr essed.
• Y ou may have held down the preset button to
which the station was as signed, causing the
station to be r eplaced by a new one . Assign
the desired sta tion again.
• Preset buttons c annot be used when the setup
menu is displayed.
If maintenance servic e is performed
All user -configure d settings, such as preset radio
stations, the timer settings, and the clock, may
be initialized.
Please note your settings in c ase you need to
configur e them again.
