4.5 Cleaning the dual

motor protection filter

The dual motor protection filter prevents coarse dust par-

ticles from destroying the motor.

 Checking: Check the dual motor protection filter every

other time when emptying the dust container.

 Cleaning: If you find that the filter is dirty, clean it as de-

scribed here: The filter should be cleaned at least every

3 – 6 months.

1. Switch off the vacuum cleaner and remove the dust

container as described in ZChapter 4.1, "Emptying the

dust container", steps 1 – 2.

2. Remove the motor protection filter with its holder from

the fitting directly in front of the motor by pulling the tab

provided (Fig. 25).

3. Remove the secondary motor protection filter with its

holder from the dust container by pulling it by the tab

provided (Fig. 26).

4. Separate the motor protection filter elements (Fig. 27/1)

from their holder (Fig. 27/2) over a dustbin.

5. Thoroughly rinse both filter elements by hand in clear,

cold running water.

6. If one of the filter elements is damaged or deformed, re-

place it by a new one. ZChapter 6.1, "List of accesso-

ries and spare parts".

7. If the new motor protection filter is too large, lay the the old

filter onto the new filter mat. Trace the contours and cut

the new filter down to size with a pair of scissors.

8. Insert the cleaned or new motor protection filters into

their filter holders.

9. Replace the secondary motor protection filter with its

holder in the correct position (Fig. 28, the grid of the fil-

ter holder must not be visible).

10. Replace the primary motor protection filter with its holder

in its correct position in the dust container (Fig. 29, the

grid of the filter holder must be visible).

11. Replace the dust container It must catch with a click.

ATTENTION:

The filter elements are washable, but may not be

cleaned in dishwashers or washing-machines. Do not

use chemical cleansers to clean the filters. Them leave

the filter elements to dry (approx. 24 hours at room tem-

perature). Only put them back into the appliance when

they are completely dry.
