FIRE SAFETY TIPS
Follow safety rules and prevent h azardous sit uations: 1) Us e smokin g
materials properly . Never smoke in be d. 2) Keep matches or lighters
away from ch ildren; 3) Store fla mmable materials in proper con tainers;
4) Keep electrical appli ances in good condition and don’ t overload mains
circuits; 5 ) K eep co okers, b arbecue grills, f ireplaces an d c himneys
grease- and d ebris-free; 6 ) Never leave anything heat ing on the cooker
unattended ; 7) Keep portable heaters and open flames, like candles,
away from flamm able materials; 8) D on’t let rubbish accum ulate.
Keep alarms clean, and test them weekly . Replace a larms immediately
if t hey are not working properly . Sm oke Alarms t hat do not work cannot
alert you to a fire. K eep a t leas t one workin g fire extinguisher on every
floor , and an additional one in the kitchen along with a fire blanket . Have
fire e scape lad ders o r othe r reliable means of escape from an upper
floor in ca se st airs a re blocked.

unit monitors the air , and when smoke reaches i ts sensing c hamber ,
it alarms. It can give you more time to escape before f ire spreads.

all resid ents ca n he ar it, as described in this manual. This u nit w ill not
sense gas, heat, or fla me. It cann ot prevent or extinguish fires.

Smoke Alarm s co nform to regulatory
requirements, in cluding EN 1 46 0 4 :2 0 05 an d are designed to detect
particles of combust ion. Sm oke parti cles of varying nu mber and
size are produced in all fires.
Ionisation technolo gy is generally more sensitive than photoelect ri c
technology at d etecti ng small particles, which tend to be produced
in g r e ater a mounts by flaming fires, which consume c ombustible
materials rapidly and spread quickly . S ources of these fires m ay
include paper burni ng in a wastebask et, or a grease fire in the kitchen.
Photoelectri c technology is generally more sensit iv e than ionisation
technology at d etecti ng lar ge partic le s, which tend to be produced
in greater amou nts by smo uldering f ires, whic h may smoulde r for
hours before b ursting into fl ame. Sou rces of these fires ma y in clude
cigarettes burnin g in couches or bedding.

1. Install the b attery so the terminals

“+” and “-” to “-.” Push the battery in
until it sn aps in securely and cannot
be shaken loose. If the batter y is
not sn apped in c ompletely , t he u nit

The optional locking features are designed to discourage unauthorized removal of the batte
in s ingle-family household s whe re unautho rized ba ttery o r Alarm removal is not a co ncern.
These Smoke Alarms have two se parate locking features: on e to lock the battery compartmen t,
bracket. Y ou can choose to u se ei ther fe ature independe ntly , or use them both.
T ools you will ne ed: • Needle-nose plier s or utility knife • S tandard Flathead screwdriver .
Both locking features use locking pins, which are molded into the mounting bracket. Using needle
knife, remove one or both pins from the m ounting bracket, dependi ng on how m any locking featu

HOW TO INTERCONNECT ALARMS (Model
Up to 12 Smoke Alarms may be interconnected so t hat i f one Alarm
senses smoke, all the Alarms will sound an alarm. Low battery warning
will sound only in a n Alarm that needs a new battery , h owever .
The wiring must conform to current IEE regulations for electrical
installatio ns.
Connect the alarms together by connecting all the S IGNAL terminals
to each o ther a nd a ll GROUND terminals to each other . See figure.
