9.2 SpecialinstructionsforFLYERs

withacarbonframe

If your FLYER has a carbon frame, please

read and observe the following informati-

on:

Although carbon frames have the

benetofreducingfatigue,theymustbe

inspected regularly. Carbon frames are

stable and lightweight. However, in the

event of an accident or overloading, they

break rather than deform. Carbon

frames are not ductile. If a carbon frame

is overloaded, it does not deform – it

breaks. If you discover a crack, or if you

hear unusual creaking or squeaking

noises while riding, have the carbon

frame inspected by a FLYER specialist

dealer.

• If your FLYER carbon frame is overloaded or

involved in a crash, have it checked by your

FLYER specialist dealer, even if there is no vis-

ible damage.

• Never exceed the torque values whenever

carbon parts are used. Use carbon paste to

help reduce the torque while ensuring a secure

connection.

• Never use conventional grease to lubricate car-

bon parts. Carbon becomes brittle if exposed

directly to thermal radiation (e.g. heaters). This

may cause the carbon frame to break, which

can result in accident and injury.

• FLYER bikes with a carbon frame must never

be mounted on a car bike rack using standard

frame clips, as these will damage the frame.

• The clip on the seat tube opening must not be

closed when the seat post is removed from a

FLYER with a carbon frame.

10. Beforetherstride

Ensure that the E-Bike is ready for use and ad-

justedtotyourbody.

This includes:

• Settingthepositionandxtureoftheseatand

handlebars

• Adjusting the brakes

• Securing the wheels into the frame and fork

Any parts that are not supplied already assem-

bled should be tted by a FLYER specialist re-

tailer.

Have the saddle set to a safe and comfortable

position (see Chapter 13.2).

Have the brake handles set by the FLYER special-

ist retailer so that you can reach them easily at all

times and can use the brake without getting tired.

Be sure to familiarise yourself with the brake le-

vers connected to the front and back wheels – the

left brake lever is usually for the front wheel and

the right lever is usually for the back one! Howev-

er,beforetherstrideyoushouldalwayscheck

how the brake handles are connected on your

FLYERasitmaybedi󰀨erent.

However, on fast FLYER e-bikes in the EU, this

is the other way round for legal reasons. The left

brake lever is for the back wheel and the right bra-

ke lever is for the front wheel. Your FLYER dealer

will record the brake lever settings in the service

booklet.

However,beforetherstrideyoushouldalways

check how the brake handles are connected on

yourFLYERasitmaybedi󰀨erent.

Before each ride, and any time your bike has

been left unattended for a short period of time,

make sure to check if each screw, quick-release

fasteners, thru-axles or other important compo-

nents are properly secured where they belong. A

table listing the most important screw connections

and the prescribed fastening torques is provided

in the separate “Technical Data” operating in-

structions document. The most important screw

connections and the prescribed fastening torques

is provided in the “technical data” for your FLYER,

while notes on the correct use of quick-release

fasteners and quick-release axles are provided in

Chapter 13.1.

When you are riding with clipless/step-in pedals:

Functional testing is required. The pedals should

release easily and smoothly.

Check the tyre pressure. The manufacturer guide-

lines which may not be exceeded or undercut are

printed on the side of the tyres.

It is also necessary for you to check the following

components of your E-Bike:

• Please check that the battery is secure.

• Check the charging state of the battery to en-

surethatthechargeissu󰀩cientforthedrive

planned.

• Familiarise yourself with the functions of the

operating element.

Familiarise yourself with your new

FLYER E-Bike’s riding and handling per-

formance by testing its features out in a

safe and quiet area.
