21.1 Bicycletrailers

You are allowed to transport one or a maximum

of two children in a bicycle trailer with the FLYER

Goroc X models up to a trailer load of 40 kg. The

frames bear the following label:

The maximum trailer load and the listed tongue

load may not be exceeded.

The following applies when using child

trailers:

– Max. trailer load of 40 kg for FLYERs with a per-

missible total weight of 140 or 150 kg

– The tongue load must be between 2 kg (min.)

and 8 kg (max.)

– Only allowed for e-bikes with hydraulic brakes

– Only allowed for mountain e-bikes with an alu-

minum rear section

– Fast e-bikes (S-pedelecs) may not be used as a

towing vehicle, at least in Germany. Check out

the applicable regulations in your own country.

– A bicycle trailer may never be clamped to frame

tubing or components (seat post, rack, etc.)

– The law forbids children under the age of 16

from riding a bicycle towing a trailer.

Please note that the application area

changes, or is reduced to category 2 for

Goroc X models if they are used to tow a

bicycle trailer (see Chapter 8.4 Applicati-

on area).

Only ever use the trailer manufacturer’s

original system. The coupling system

should be mounted and checked by your

FLYER specialist dealer. The FLYER

specialist dealer will instruct you in how

to handle the trailer combination as well

as how it works. Pay attention to the tips

in the following chapters on learning how

to handle your bicycle before taking it

outforyour rstride,and beforeevery

ride, and remember that towing a trailer

leads to greater wear and tear. Have

your FLYER regularly checked by your

specialist dealer.

Observe any applicable national laws. In

Germany, bicycle trailers are not permit-

ted on S-pedelecs with assistance up to

45 km/h. This is allowed in Switzerland,

but remember that the bicycle trailer

must be approved by the manufacturer

for operation up to 45 km/h.

Regardless of any statutory obligation,

we recommend that children wear a hel-

met. Fit an at least 1.5 m high, exible

pole with a brightly-colored ag to your

child trailer. Please note that children who

weigh more than 22 kg may not be trans-

ported in child trailers.

The safe transport of children is the

responsibility of the cyclist. FLYER AG

cannot be held liable in connection with

the transport of children and the resul-

ting risks.

21.1.1 Beforeyourrsttripwiththeapproved

bicycletrailer

Bike trailers will signicantly extend the overall

lengthofyourFLYER.Practicesettingo󰀨,braking,

riding around corners and on hills in a safe

place

with an empty trailer. Then load the trailer with

things that are of the same weight as your child-

ren. Unhook the loaded trailer from the coupling

to the FLYER and hold it in your hand at the same

height as the connection point. You should increa-

se the pressure in the rear wheel if you feel its

weight pressing down on your hand. However, the

tongueloadshouldnotexceedthegureshown

on the FLYER or in the trailer’s instructions, other-

wise have this checked by your specialist dealer.

Familiarize yourself with the longer braking dis-

tance and altered braking behavior during a short

trip with the loaded trailer. Always use both brakes

when braking to distribute the loads as well as the

heat generated over both the wheel sets and the

overall FLYER. If only the front brake is used, this

can lead to greater stress on several parts on the

towing vehicle, and thus shorten their lifetime.

21.1.2 Beforeeverytripwiththebicycletrailer

Check that the children are buckled in

safely and are wearing a helmet before

every trip, or that the item being trans-

ported is in the middle of the trailer and

rmly secured. Check the secure t of

the coupling and that the safety coupling

has engaged correctly. Make sure that

the vehicle’s permissible total weight

has not been exceeded. You have to

take the trailer and load into account

here. Permissible total weight:

(FLYER + rider + luggage + trailer + chil-

dren/load)
