4.5 Finding Idioms and Usage
Examples
Your device can locate English idioms and
usageexamplesandtheirtranslation.Youcan
use multiple words for searching.
1. In the Learn menu, press / to select
Usage Examples or Idiom Search and
then press .
2. For the search of usage examples,
press SOURCE and then / to select
a language for your search results.
Conrm your choice with .
SelectALL to show results in all languages.
3. Press RANGE and then / to select a
multiple word search option. Conrm
your choice with .
All=Lookforentrieswiththesearch
words, whenever they appear.
Items following specied order=Lookfor
entries with the search words, in the order
as you typed.
Input words are in successions =Lookfor
entries with the search words, in the word
successions as you typed.
4. Type a word.
With each letter you type, the resulting
list of potential matching entries is
refreshed. If the letters you typed match
an entry in the word list, it is automatically
highlighted. Or, press / to select
another word entry you see in the word
list.
5. Press .
If there are multiple results within an entry,
press or to select the one you want
and then press .
Press DICT to look up the entry of the
original keyword in the dictionary.
6. Press to start a new search.
4.6 Search History
Thedevicestoresthemostrecentlybrowsed
entries in dictionaries.
1. In the Learn menu, press / to select
History and then press .
As a shortcut, press + .
2. Press / to select an entry and then
press .
✓ Editing History
Use the following soft keys.
DELETE:Todeletetheselectedentry.
DEL ALL:Tocleartheentirehistory.
Ineithercase,youareaskedtoconrm
your selection, press Y to do so or N to
cancel.
5. EXERCISE menu
5.1 Picture Card Game
1. In the Exer menu, press / to select
Picture Card Game and then press .
2. Press START to start the game.
You can change the language and skill
level at this screen. Press / to select
one of the settings. Press to show the
options in a setting. Press / to select
one of the options and then press .
3. A picture shows briey followed by a list
of word choices. Press / and then
to select the word that matches
with the picture.
4. The round ends when you select the
correct word or when you press QUIT.
If you see the message, “Incorrect, try
again,” press PIC to see the picture again
before making another attempt. Press
HINT to eliminate an incorrect answer.
Press SAY to hear the game word
pronounced.
Press TRANS to see the translation or
denitionofthehighlightedword.Inthe
translation, press TARGET to change the
language.
Press NEXT to start a new round.
Press QUIT or END to end current round or
exitthegame.
5.2 Spelling Bee
1. In the Exer menu, press / to select
the Spelling Bee language version you
want and then press .
Each version draws words from the
corresponding My Word List. You should
have several words entered in My Word List
beforetheexercise.
2. A word is pronounced.
3. Type in the word you just heard and
press to see if you spelled it
correctly.
If you see the message, “Incorrect, try
again,” press to hear the word again
before making another attempt to spell
the word. Press HINT to show the word
brieyonthescreen.
4. The round ends when you enter the
correct word or when you press END.
Press LOOKUP to see the translation or
denitionoftheword.Press to return
totheexercise.
5. Press NEW to hear a new word.
6. Press END to exit the exercise.
5.3 Flashcards
1. In the Exer menu, press / to select
the Flashcards language version you
want and then press .
Each version draws words from the
corresponding My Word List. You should
have several words entered in My Word List
beforetheexercise.
2. A word will be displayed on the screen
for you to study, dene, and translate.
3. If you can recite the denition or
translation, press NEW to continue to
the next word.
If not, press LOOKUP. Press to return to
theexercise.
4. Press END to exit the exercise.

6.1 Playing the Games
Changing Game Settings
1. In the Games menu, press / to select
Game Settings and press .
2. Press / to select one of the settings.
Press to show the options in a setting.
Press / to select one of the options
and then press .
Language determines the language for the
games.
Skill level determinesthelevelofdiculty.
Words determines the source from which
the games draw words.
3. Press when done.
6.2 Selecting a Game
In the Games menu, press / to select the
game of your choice and press .
6.3 Game Instructions
Duringanygameyoucanreadinstructions
by pressing + . You can sometimes
receive a hint by pressing HINT. Press END to
give up and reveal the game word. Press QUIT
toexitthegame.

7.1 Changing the Settings
Toadjustthebasicsettingsatanytime:
1. In the Tools menu, press / to select
Settings and then press .
2. Press / to select one of the following
settings:
Shuto determines how long your device
stays on if no key is pressed.
Contrast determines how dark or light the
screen is.
Type sizedeterminesthesizeofscreen
type.
Learn a Word determines whether or not
you be greeted with a word selected from
a dictionary of your choice every time you
turn on the device.
Message language determines the
language for prompts, help, and messages.
Time setup allows you to set the clock.
3. Press / to select an option (except
for Message Language and Time Setup).
4. Press CLOSE when done.
Setting the Time and Date
1. Press when Time setup is selected.
2. Press / to select the setting you
want.
When Date or Time is selected, press ,
then press / tomovebetweeneldsin
thepop-upwindow.Press / to adjust
the values. Press when done.
When Date Format or Time Format is
selected, press / to select the desired
date or time display style.
When Home City or World City is selected,
press , then press / to select a city
and press . You can also press a letter
to go directly to that part of the list.
When Home City DST or World City DST
is selected, press / toturnDaylight
SavingTimeonoro.
3. Press when done.
7.2 Using Phone Book, Schedule
and Memo
Adding Entries
1. In the Tools menu, press / to select
Phone Book, Schedule or Memo and then
press .
