Third-party antennas

You can also use third-party antennas. They are intended for special tasks and conditions, e.g:

•in difficult environments: e.g. for mounting outdoors or cold storage, or similar.

N870E IP PRO can only be mounted indoors.

•in case of long distances: Use directional antennas that can cover a greater distance and

channel DECT radiation to cover the area where DECT is needed more accurately.

•for aesthetic reasons: Use of an unobtrusive external antenna that matches the environment.

The N870E IP PRO can then be installed invisibly.

•to increase the DECT range: mounting external antennas in a better position than would be

possible with an N870E IP PRO base due to spatial conditions, (e.g. distance to LAN connec-

tion).

Notes on the use of third-party antennas

Suitable antennas

•The antenna connection must be of the TNC type.

•Only use antennas of the same type.

•Use the same length of cable on both sides.

•Do not mount one antenna inside and the other outside.

•Be sure to connect two antennas (antenna diversity).

Antenna diversity is one of the strongest means against unwanted reflections in a duplex

connection between handset and base. If you connect only one antenna, this remedy is over-

ridden.

Use of directional antennas

•Neighbouring base stations must receive signals from each other to optimise channel selec-

tion. Using two neighbouring N870E IP PRO base stations with directional antennas

connected and pointing in different directions can therefore be problematic.

Field strength

•The operation of external antennas must not exceed the legal limits of permissible field

strength. Check your regional regulations. If in doubt, you can reduce the transmit power in

the Web configurator via the Reduce TX power by 8dB for external antenna operation

option for this unit ( p. 49).

•When calculating the total antenna gain, take into account that the coaxial cable causes

additional attenuation that must be considered.
