2. Are you able to launch the ProScan software?
Yes:
Continue to the next step.
No:
Make sure that your PC meets the minimum system requirements
provided in the “Getting Started” section of this manual. If you receive
an error message when trying to launch ProScan, the problem is most
likely due to the .NET Framework not being installed. See the “Getting
Started” section for instructions on installing the .NET Framework.
3. Do you have compatible OBD-II interface hardware attached between your
PC and your vehicle?
Yes:
Continue to the next step.
No:
The ProScan software requires OBD-II interface hardware to translate
OBD-II communications into a format understandable by PC serial ports
and vice versa. ProScan supports any OBD-II interface hardware using
one of the following interpreter chips manufactured by Elm Electronics:
ELM327 (VPW, PWM, ISO, and CAN)
ELM323 (ISO)
ELM322 (VPW)
ELM320 (PWM)
Make sure the OBD-II cable is securely attached from the vehicle’s 16-
pin diagnostic connector into the OBD-II interface module. Make sure
the serial cable is securely attached from the OBD-II interface module
into your PC’s 9-pin serial port. If your PC does not have a serial port,
you will need to attach a USB-to-Serial adapter (sold separately) between
the end of the serial cable and your PC’s USB port.
