»Phase assignment« (page 80)

Assign the three-position switch under “B” or “C”.
The next step is to allot the fl ight phases you have
set up in the »Phase setting« menu to each of the
switch positions. Since you have already assigned na-
mes to the fl ight phases, these names now appear on
the screen: initially the name of Phase “1” is display-
ed on the right. If you operate the auto-rotation switch
(which you have already assigned), the screen dis-
plays “Autorot”.

Autorot
Just to remind you:
The auto-rotation phase has absolute precedence.
Move the switch to the fi rst end-point, and select the
SEL eld on the right of the screen. Use the rotary
control to select the fl ight phase which you wish to as-
sign to this switch position (in this example “2 Hover”)
and confi rm with a brief press of the rotary control or
ENTER. Move the switch straight to the other end-
point, which is allotted the name “3 Acro”. Proceed in
exactly the same way with the centre position of the
switch, to which we will assign the name “1 Normal”.
Note:
Of course, it is also possible to swap over the phase
names or use different names for the three switch po-
sitions. For example, if you wish to use a speed go-
vernor, as described in the section starting in the next
column, a sequence of the “normal / hover / acro”
type might well make sense.
The model settings which you entered before you as-
signed a phase switch are now located in fl ight pha-
se 1 (“normal”). That is the phase which is called up
when the phase switch is at the centre position.
These settings are known to be correct, i.e. you have
test-fl own the model using them, so it is a good star-
ting point to copy them into the other fl ight phases,
as this ensures that at least the model fl ies safely in
each phase. This is done using the »Copy / Erase«
menu; see page 47.
Once you have set up a series of fl ight phases, it is
possible to make changes to the phase-specifi c me-
nus for each phase separately. Since the mc-22s fea-
tures digital trims, in the Heli program all four trim po-
sitions are stored separately for each fl ight phase, in
addition to the other menu settings which you have
entered separately for each fl ight phase (see page
32).
Suggested additional programming: speed gover-
nor
At some stage you will probably consider installing
a speed governor (regulator), such as the mc-Heli-
Control, in your helicopter. This unit provides a safe
way of fl ying your helicopter with different system ro-
tational speeds. It is sensible to couple the individu-
al rotational speeds with the fl ight phases, so that you
can make additional adjustments as required for each
rotor speed.
Before you carry out the programming at the trans-
mitter, it is essential to install the speed governor and
program it exactly as described in the manufacturer’s
instructions. As you would expect, the mc-22s offers
several possible methods of implementing different
rotational speeds in individual fl ight phases. These in-
clude “ultra-convenient” facilities, but they do call for
much greater programming effort at the transmitter,
and for this reason are best reserved for the experi-
enced pilot.
The following example involves certain restrictions
in terms of convenience, but the effi ciency of rotor
speed governing is perfectly adequate, and the sys-
tem is reasonably easy to program and – not least –
easy to operate.
The procedure is similar to that previously described
for setting up gyro gain. Once again, the “Travel” and
“Offset” adjustment facilities in the »Control adjust«
menu are used to adjust the end-points of a two-
channel switch module, slider or rotary knob.
Depending on the features of your transmitter and the
assignments you have selected for your transmitter
controls, you can use either the standard transmitter
control connected to socket CH6 on the transmitter
circuit board, or an optional two-channel switch mo-
dule with long toggle (Order No. 4151) or short toggle
(Order No. 4151.1), connected to the CH8 socket.
To set up this system you again open the menu ...

Requirement:
The governor must be programmed in such a way
that the “back” position of the switch module (e.g.
Control 8) equates to “governor off”, while the forward
position determines the actual rotational speed.
