W ARNINGS AND SAFET Y INSTRUCTIONS
Operator safe ty
○ Alwa ys wear a safety face shield or goggles.
○ Glov es should be used when sharpening chain.
○ Alwa ys wear safety protectiv e equipment such as jacket,
trousers, glo ves, helmet, boo ts with st eel toe-cap s and non-
slip soles whenever you use a chain saw . For wor kin g in trees
the safety boots must be suit
able for climbing techniques. Do
not wear loose clothing, jewelry, shor t pants, sandals or go
barefoot.
Secure hair so it is abo ve shoulder length.
○ Do no t operat e this tool when you are tired, ill or under the
infl uence of alcohol , drugs or medica tion.
○ Never let a child or ine
xperienced person operat e the machine .
○ Wear hearing prot ection. Pay attention to your surroundings.
Be aware of an y bysta nder s who ma y be signaling a problem.
Remove safety equipment immediately upon shutting off
engine.
○ Wear head prot ection.
○ Never star t or run the engine inside a closed room or building.
Breathing ex
hau st fumes can kill.
○ For respiratory prot ection, wear a protection mask while emitting
the chain oil mist and dust from sa wdust.
○ Keep handles free of oil and fuel.
○ Keep hands away from cutting equipment.
○ Do no t grab or hold the unit by the cutting equipment.
○ When the unit tur
ned off , make sure the cutting attac hment has
stopped bef ore the unit is set down.
○ When operation is prolonged, take a break from time to time
so that you may avoid possible Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome
(HAVS ) which is caused by vibration.
○ The opera tor must obe y the local regulations of cut
ting area.
W ARNING
○ Antivibration systems do not guarantee that yo u will not sust ain
Hand-Arm Vibration Syndr ome or carpal tunnel syndrome.
Therefore, continual end reg ular users should monitor closely
the condition of their hands and fi ngers. If any of the abo ve
symptom s appear , seek medical advice immediately .
○ Long or con tinuous exp osu re to high noise le
vels may cause
permanent hearing impairment. Always wear approved hearing
protection when operating a unit/machine.
○ If you are using any medical electric /electronic devices such
as a pacemaker , consult your physician as we ll as the device
manufacturer prior to operating an y power equipment.
Unit/machine safety
○ Inspect the entire unit/machine befo re each use
. Replac e
damaged par ts. Chec k for fuel leaks and make sure all fasteners
are in place and securely tightened.
○ Replace parts that are cracke d, chipped or damaged in any way
before using the unit/machine.
○ Make sure the side case is properly att ached.
○ Keep oth ers away when making carburetor ad
justments.
○ Use only accessor ies as recomm ended for this unit/machine by
the manufacturer .
○ Never le t the chain strike any obst acle. If the chain mak es
contact, the machine should be stopped and checked care fully.
○ Make sure the automatic oiler is workin g. Kee p the oil tank fi lled
with clean oil. Never let chain ru
n dry on the bar .
○ All chain saw service, other than the items listed in the operat orʼs/
ownerʼs manual, should be performed by competent chain-saw
service personnel. (For exa mpl e, if improper too ls are used to
remove the fl y wheel or if an improper too l is used to hold the
fl y
wheel in order to remove the clutch, structural damage to the
fl ywheel could occur and could subsequently cause the fl ywheel
to burst. )
W ARNING
○ Never modif y the unit/machine in any way. Do not use your unit /
machine for an y job except that for which it is intended.
○ Never use chain saw without any safety equipment or that has
faulty safety equipment. It could result in serious personal
injury.
○ Using guide bar/chain other than re
commended by the
manufacturer which are not approved, could result in a high risk
of personal accidents or injury.
Fue l safety
○ Mix and pour fuel outdoors and where there are no sparks or
fl ames.
○ Use a container approved for fuel.
○ Do not smoke or allow smoking near fuel or the unit
/machine or
while using the unit/machine.
○ Wipe up all fuel spills before star ting engine.
○ Move at least 3 m away from fueling site before starting engine .
○ Stop engine before removing fuel cap.
○ Empty the fuel ta nk before storing the unit/machine . It is
recommended that the fuel be emptied af
ter each use. If fuel is
left in the tank, store so fuel will not leak.
○ Store unit /machine and fuel in area where fuel vapo rs cannot
reach sparks or open fl ames from water heaters, electric mot ors
or switches, furnaces, etc.
W ARNING
Fue l is easy to ignit e or get exp los ion or inhale fumes, so that pay
special attention when handling or fi lling fuel.
Cutting safety
○ Do no t cut any material oth er than wood or woo den objects.
○ For respirator y protection, wear an aeroso l protection mask
when cutting the wood af ter insecticide has been applied
.
○ Keep others including children, animals, bystand ers and helpers
outside the ha zard zone. Stop the engine immediately if you are
approached.
○ Hold the unit/machine fi rmly with the right hand on the rear
handle and the left hand on the front handle .
○ Keep fi rm footing and balance. Do not over-r each.
○ Ke
ep all par ts of your body away from the muffl er and cut ting
attac hment when the engine is ru nning.
○ Keep Bar/Chain belo w waist level.
○ Befor e felling a tree, the operator must be accustomed to the
sawing t echniques of the chain saw .
○ Be sure to pre-plan a safe exi t from a failing tree
.
○ While cutting, hold saw fi rmly with both hands with thumb fi rmly
locked around front handle, and st and with fe et wel l balanced
and your body balanced.
○ Stand to the side of the sa w when cutting - never directly behind
it.
○ Alwa ys keep the spiked bumper fac e to a tree
, beca use the
chain may suddenly be drawn into a tree, if so equipped.
○ When completing a cut, be ready to hold up the units as it breaks
into clear , so it will not follow through and cut yo ur legs, feet or
body , or contact an obstruction.
○ Be aler
t agains t kickback (w he n sa w kicks up and bac k at
operator) . Nev er cut with the nose of the bar .
○ When relocating to a new wo rk area, be sure to shut off the
machine and ensure that all cutting attac hments are stopped.
○ Never place the machine on the ground when ru
nning.
○ Alwa ys ensure that the engine is shut off and any cutting
attac hments have completely stopped before clearing debris or
removing grass from the cutting at tachment.
○ Alwa ys carr y a fi rst-a id kit when operating any power
equipment.
○ Never star t or run the engine inside a closed room or building
and
/or near the in fl ammable liquid . Br eathing exhaust fumes
can kill.
Maintenance saf ety
○ Maintain the unit/machine according to recommended
procedures.
○ Disconnect the spark plug be fore performing maint enance
excep t for carburetor adjustments.
○ Keep oth ers away when making carburetor adjustments.
○ Use only genuine HIT ACHI replacement parts as recommended
by the manuf acturer.
