W ARNINGS AND SAFET Y INSTRUCTIONS
Operator safe ty
○ Always wear a safety face shield or goggles.
○ Gloves should be used when sharpening chain.
○ Always wear safety protective equipment such as jacket,
trousers, gloves , helmet, boots with steel toe- ca ps and non-slip
soles, and eye, ear and leg protection equipment whenever yo u
use a chain saw . For
work ing in trees the safety boots must be
suitable for climbing techniques . Do not wear loose clothing ,
jewelry , short pants, sandals or go barefoot.
Secure hair so it is abo ve shoulder length.
○ Do no t operate this tool when you are tired, ill or under the
infl uence of alcohol , drugs
or medication.
○ Never let a child or inexperienced person opera te the machine .
○ Wea r hearing protection . Pay attentio n to your surroundings.
Be aware of an y bysta nder s who ma y be signaling a problem.
Remove sa fety equipment immediately upon shutting off engine.
○ Wea r head protection .
○ Never star t or ru n the engine
inside a closed room or building.
Breathing exhaus t fumes can kill.
○ For respirator y protection, wear a pro tection mask while emitting
the chain oil mist and dust from sa wdust.
○ Kee p handles free of oil and fuel.
○ Kee p hands away from cutting equipment.
○ Do not grab or hold the unit by
the cutting equipment.
○ When the unit turned off , make sure the cutting attachm ent has
stopped bef ore the unit is set down.
○ When operation is prolonged , tak e a break from time to time
so that you may avoid possible Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome
(HAVS ) which is caused by vibration.
○
The operator must obey the local regulations of cutting area.
W ARNING
○ Antivibration systems do not guarantee that you will not sustain
Hand-Arm Vibration Syndr ome or carpal tunnel syndrome.
Therefore, continual end reg ular users should monit or closely
the condition of their hands and fi ngers. If any of the above
symptom s appear , seek medical advice immediately .
○ Long or continuous ex pos ure to high
noise levels ma y cause
permanent hearing impairment. Always wea r approved hearing
protection when operating a unit/machine.
○ If you are using any medical electric/ electronic devices such
as a pacemak er, consult your physician as wel l as the de vice
manufacturer prior to operating an y power equipment.
Unit/machine safety
○ Inspect the entire unit/machine be fore
each use . Replace
damaged par ts. Chec k for fuel leaks and make sure all fasteners
are in place and securely tightened.
○ Replace parts that are cracked, chipped or damaged in an y way
before using the unit/machine.
○ Make sure the side case is properly at tached.
○ Kee p others away when making carbure tor
adjustments.
○ Use only accessories as recommended for this unit /machine by
the manufacturer .
○ Never let the chain str ike any obstacle. If the chain mak es
contact, the machine should be stopped and checked care fully.
○ Make sure the automatic oiler is work ing. Kee p the oil tank fi lled
with clean oil. Never let
chain run dry on the bar .
○ All chain saw ser vice, other than the items listed in the
operator’ s/ owne r’s manual, should be performed by Hitachi
Autho rized Ser vice Centers. (For examp le, if improper too ls are
used to remove the fl ywheel or if an improper tool is used to hold
the fl ywheel
in order to remove the clutch, structural damage
to the fl ywheel could occur and could subsequently cause the
fl ywheel to burst. )
W ARNING
○ Never modif y the unit/machine in any way. Do not use your unit /
machine for an y job except that for which it is intended.
○ Never use chain saw without any safety equipment or that has
faulty safe t y equipment. It could result in serious personal injury.
○ Using guide bar/ chain other than
recommended by the
manufacturer which are not approved, could result in a high risk
of personal accidents or injury.
Fue l safety
○ Mix and pour fuel outd oors and where there are no sparks or
fl ames .
○ Use a container approved for fuel.
○ Do not smoke or allow smoking near fuel or
the unit /machine or
while using the unit/machine.
○ Wipe up all fuel spills before starting engine.
○ Move at least 3 m away from fueling site be fore starting engine.
○ Stop engine and let it cool for a few minutes before removing fuel
tank cap .
○ Empty the fuel tank be fore storing
the unit/machine. It is
recommended that the fuel be emptied af ter each use. If fuel is
left in the tank, store so fuel will not leak.
○ Store unit /machine and fuel in area where fuel vapo rs canno t
reach sparks or open fl ames from water heaters, electric mot ors
or switches, furnaces, etc.
W ARNING
Fue l is easy to ignit e or get exp los ion or inhale fumes, so that pay
special attention when handling or fi lling fuel.
Cutting safety
○ Do not cut any material other than wood or woo den objects.
○ For respirator y protection, wear an aerosol protection mask
when cutting the woo d after insecticide has
been applied.
○ Kee p other s including children, animals, bystande rs and helpers
outside the ha zard zone. Stop the engine immediately if you are
approached.
○ Hold the unit /machine fi rmly with the right hand on the rear
handle and the left hand on the front handle .
○ Kee p fi rm footing and balance. Do not
over-reac h.
○ Kee p all parts of you r body away from the mu ffl er and cut ting
attac hment when the engine is ru nning.
○ Kee p Bar/C hain below waist level .
○ Before f elling a tree, the opera tor must be accustomed to the
sawing t echniques of the chain saw .
○ Be sure to pre-plan a safe
exit from a failing tree.
○ While cutting, hold the unit/machine fi rmly with both hands with
thumb fi rmly lock ed around front handle, and stand with feet wel l
balanced and you r body balanced.
○ Stand to the side of the saw when cutting - ne ver directly behind
it.
○ Always keep the spiked
bumper face to a tree , because the
chain may suddenly be drawn into a tree, if so equipped.
○ When completing a cut, be ready to hold up the units as it breaks
into clear , so it will not fol low through and cut your legs, fe et or
body , or contact an
obstruction.
○ Be aler t against kickback (wh en saw kicks up and back at
operator) . Nev er cut with the nose of the bar .
○ When relocating to a new work area, be sure to shut off the
machine and ensure that all cutting attac hments are stopped.
○ Never place the machine on the
ground when running.
○ Always ensure tha t the engine is shut off and any cutting
attac hments have completely stopped before clearing debris or
removing grass from the cutting at tachment.
○ Always carry a fi rst-a id kit when operating any power equipment.
○ Never st art or run the engine inside a closed room
or building
and/or near the infl ammable liquid. Breathing exha ust fumes
can kill.
Maintenance saf ety
○ Maintain the unit/machine according to recommended
procedures.
○ Disconnect the spark plug before performing maintenance
excep t for carburetor adjustments.
○ Kee p others away when making carbure tor adjustments.
○ Use only genuine HIT A CHI replacement part s as recommended
by
the manufacturer .
CAUTI ON
Do not disas semble the rec oil star ter . Yo u may get a possibilit y
of personal injury with recoil spring.
W ARNING
Improper maintenance could result in serious engine damage or
in serious personal injury.
