STARTING THE ENGINE
Always follow the proper starting procedure
described below.
This motorcycle is equipped with a side stand
ignition cut-off system. The engine cannot be
started if the side stand is down, unless the
transmission is in neutral. If the side stand is
up, the engine can be started in neutral or in
gear with the clutch lever pulled in. After
starting with the side stand down, the engine
will shut off if the transmission is put in gear
before raising the side stand.
To protect the catalytic converter in your
motorcycleʼs exhaust system, avoid
extending idling and the use of leaded petrol.
Your motorcycleʼs exhaust contains
poisonous carbon monoxide gas. High levels
of carbon monoxide can collect rapidly in
enclosed areas such as a garage.
Do not run the engine with the garage door
closed. Even with the door open, run the
engine only long enough to move your
motorcycle out of the garage.
Do not use the electric starter for more than 5
seconds at a time. Release the start button
for approximately 10 seconds before
pressing it again.
