OZELOCK AUTOMATIC WATERING
INSTALLATION & OPERATING
INSTRUCTIONS
1. HOZELOCK PARTS
- Tap
- Pipeline
-
Drippers
Only the items marked * are supplied
with this kit. All the parts are available
s
eparately. The components fall into
three groups (A,B,C).
I
mportant: Measure the site and plan on
paper before cutting/piercing any tube.
Many systems combine supply tube and
m
icro tube, but each can be used
exclusively.
2
. MAIN USES FOR THE PARTS:
- Tap
Pressure regulator (2760) Connects the
a
utomatic watering system to the tap,
reduces the water pressure for
optimum performance of the system.
Water Computer (2700) Optional,
battery powered, attaches to the
outside tap, turns the water on and off,
programmed to water your plants
when you are away.
- Pipeline
Supply tube (2763 – 10m, 2764 – 25m)
Large 13mm tube used to transport
water around medium to large systems.
Make the network using Elbows (2766),
T Pieces (2767), Straight Connectors
(2768) and End Caps (2769). Secure in
place using Stakes (2770) & Wall clips
(2771). Use Flow Control Valve (2765) to
vary the flow & isolate parts of the
circuit.
Note: No one length of supply tube
should be more than 50m from the
pressure reducer
Micro tube (2772 – 10m, 2773 – 25m)
Small 4mm tube used to transport
water around small systems or to take
water from the supply tube to the
plants in larger systems. Connect to the
supply tube using a Tube Adaptor
(2778), split the flow using T-Piece
(2777). Secure in place using Stakes
(2781) & Wall clips (2782). Use Flow
Control Valve (2776) to vary the flow.
Note: No one length of micro tube
should be more than 15m long.
Hole Punch (2799) – Use to make holes
in the supply tube for accessories and
for joints with the micro tube. Use
hexagonal slot in the back of the hole
punch to tighten the micro jets into the
tube (and remove them).
Seal unwanted holes with Blanking
Plugs (2779).
- Drippers
Fixed Rate Drippers (2783) – give drips
of water at a maximum rate of 4 L/H to
suit smaller plants and containers.
Use either on end of 4mm tube or fit
directly to 13mm hose.
Pressure Compensating Drippers
(
2784/2785) – automatically compensate
to give drips of water at a rate of 4 L/H
- perfect for containers and hanging
b
askets, can also be used with hedges
and borders.
U
se 2784 in line on 4mm hose.
Use 2785 either end of line on 4mm
h
ose, or fit directly to 13mm hose.
Adjustable Sprinklers (2786,2787,2788)
– Adjustable mini sprinklers give a 360
degree spray, that can be adjusted to a
m
ax flow of 40 L/H. Suits large
individual plants and containers.
U
se 2786 in line on 4mm hose.
U
se 2787 either end of line on 4mm
hose, or fit directly to 13mm hose.
I
f using on end of 4mm hose, secure
with a 4mm stake (2781).
U
se 2788 end of line on 4mm hose.
Microjets
(2790,2791,2792,2793,2794,2795,2796) –
Produce a spray of water for complete
c
overage of flowerbeds with a
maximum range of 2m (diameter).
2793 & 2794 & 2795 supplied with flow
c
ontrol.
Mister (2797) – Produces a fine mist to
water delicate plants or provide cooling
or increase humidity - ideal for green-
houses
360º Mini Sprinkler Produces a spray
of water for complete coverage of
flowerbeds with a maximum range of
6m (diameter). Supplied with flow
control.
All micro jets should be overlapped to
avoid a dry patch beneath each
sprinkler.
All Micro jets can be fitted directly to
the supply tube for low level watering,
or can be raised up to 35cm by
combining with the High Spike (2789).
3. INSTALLING THE SYSTEM:
3.1 Connect to the tap using one of the
methods below:
a). Screw the Pressure Regulator (2760)
directly onto the outside tap.
b). Screw the Pressure Regulator (2760)
onto a water computer already fitted
to the outside tap.
c). Connect the Pressure Regulator
(2760) to an Accessory Adaptor (2289)
and snap onto a Hose End Connector
(2166) fitted to a length of hose
attached to a tap.
3.2 Connect pressure regulator to the
hose using one of the methods
below:
a). 4mm tube - use 4mm adaptor
(2760 a) and push 4mm tube through
centre
b). 13mm tube - use 13mm adaptor
(2760 b) and fit 13mm hose.
3.3 Create the network & fit drippers
a). Lay out the supply tube and/or micro
tube around the area to be watered.
The tube will be more manageable if
it is immersed in hot water or
warmed in sunshine prior to use.
Initially position it with weights until
it relaxes.
b). Cut the supply tube and/or micro
tube using scissors and create the
n
etwork using the required fittings
(Elbows, T pieces, End Caps). Micro
tube can be connected to supply tube
u
sing (2778) Straight Connectors.
c). Position flow control valves to isolate
a
reas and improve control of the
system if required.
d
). Fit drippers either directly to the
supply tube or to the end of the
m
icro tube.
e). Secure the system in place using
s
takes and wall clips.
Occasional slight leakage can occur from
t
he supply tube/micro tube connection
point. This usually seals over time, but
ensure the fitting is correctly inserted at
a
90º angle.
4
. CALCULATING THE CAPACITY OF THE
SYSTEM:
I
f fitting a large system, calculate the
flow from the supply, and therefore how
many accessories the flow will support:
4.1 Using a pressure regulator with the
tap fully on, time in seconds how
l
ong it will take to fill a bucket of
known volume in litres.
4.2 Multiply the number of litres in your
bucket by 3600, and divide by the
number of seconds it took to fill. This
will give you your maximum flow
rate per hour.
4.3 Each dripper has a given flow rate,
the total water requirement of all the
drippers that you use added together
should not exceed the maximum flow
rate.
E.g.:
a). A 9 litre bucket is filled in 15 secs.
b). 9 litres x 3600 = 42400
c). 42400/15 seconds = 2160
Micro jets use 55 L/H therefore with a
maximum flow of 2160 the maximum
number usable would be 39 (2160/55)
For the flow rate of the Hozelock range
of drippers see inside front cover of this
leaflet or check the individual packaging.
If more drippers are required than the
maximum flow permits, separate the
system into sections that can be run at
different times. If you wish to automate
this you will need more than one water
computer.
5. MAINTENANCE:
At the end of the season, open all flow
control valves and remove end sleeves.
Flush with water to clean, and then drain
to avoid frost damage. Remove the
pressure regulator and water computer
and store away from frost. All drippers
may be dismantled for cleaning. Soak in
an equal mixture of vinegar and water
to remove any residues.
