1. INTRODUCTION
Instruments by Jörg Kachelm ann
Jörg Kachelm ann, meteor ologist and fou nder of Meteo media AG, re volutionis ed weather
reports in t he early 90ies with a new t ype of media pres entation a nd the high qu ality of his local
weather fo recasts.
Today Meteom edia is one of the leading weather servic es in Europe and, with its o wn Severe
W eather Centres in Switzer land and in Germ any, among o ther things, spec ialist for m odern
early warning system s for extreme weather condi tions.
The core of the c ompany is the private weat her measurement net work. It is one of the biggest
measurement net works in Europ e.
With "Instrum ents by Jörg Kachelm ann" Irox, mark et leader in the manuf acturing of m easuring
devices, and Jörg Kachelm ann have de veloped a jo int product t hat convinc es with its hi gh
quality measurem ents, simple han dling and el egant desig n.

The JKTG-4R is a high-q uality thermo/hygro meter that give s you the abso lutely unique feature
of choosing betw een three different m ax/min memory f unctions. The recording is done
independently for each of the 6 chann els in total. T he individual s canning of th e 5 radio
sensors also makes operatio n transparent an d calculable.
Please read the instruction s carefully. They contain so me useful and interest ing informatio n that
go bey ond a m ere ex planation of how to opera te the device.
2. OPER ATING ELEM ENTS
2.1 LCD DISPLAY
All functions are depicted on the liquid crystal display (LCD) in 3 windows.
Full-segment display
Radio channels 1-5:
- current measurement of the selecte d channel (=r adio probe)
- memory value s min/max of the s elected channe l
- battery status of the sender d isplayed
Comfort Zone:
- display of the comfort status of the measureme nt of the ind oor thermo/hygrom eter
Indoor thermo/hygro :
- temperature and re lative air humi dity of the dis play device (measures at the location where the
device is used)
- memory value s min/max of the indoor ther mo/hygrometer
- battery status of the display device
2.2 KEYS / SWITCH / BATTERY COMPARTMENT
Rear view
(1 2 3 4 5 1 etc)
°C/°F
- Changes the unit of temperat ure in the display from °C to °F or v ice versa
MEMORY RESET
- Hold pressed for 3 seconds: Reset s all memorie s (IN and CH1 ... CH5). T he new recordin g
now begins depen ding on the set ting of the M IN-MAX sw itch
CH
(=CHANNEL)
- Press briefly: chan ges to display of the nex t channel
- Hold pressed for 3 second s. For the radi o channel active on the display (CH1 .... CH5),
a s ender sear ch is start ed. The three w aves above the C H flash dur ing the search proc ess.
Only the sender of the channel displayed i s searched for; the others remain unaf fected.
T/H SET
- For the IN measureme nt, the M IN/MAX values of the te mperature or the re lative air humidi ty
are displayed b elow the current value. With this key, y ou can have the te mperature or hy gro
memory disp layed.
MIN-MAX
The MIN/MAX memory is man aged and recor ded depending on the setting. T he setting app lies
for all 6 channels
Pos. 1: PERM - From the la st MEMORY RESET, the M IN/MAX recordings afte r the function
“drag indicator” are recorded. This recording is "PERMANENT", i.e. a new recording
does not start until after a new MEMORY reset.
Pos. 2: 24 Hr - If you choos e this option, t he MIN/M AX values for the last 24-28 hours in each
case are recorded. After ex piry of this period , the M IN/MAX values that are older than
24-28 hours are remove d from the memory. As soon as y ou have selected this option,
we recommend t hat you start the mem ory recording in a def ined way with a
MEMORY RESET. T his then starts a recording that triggers interna lly an elaborate
calculation and record ing. The MIN/MAX values are administ ered here in blocks of four
hours.
Example: You w ant to be able to read the M IN/MAX values of the last 24-28 hour s at all
times. Irrespective of when you look at th e display , you will alw ays see the ex treme
values of the l ast 24-28 hours. Older recordings ar e deleted in the process.
Pos. 3: DAY- If you sele ct this option, the MIN/M AX values are recorde d for 24 hour s in each
case. You are free to ch oose when the recording should begin. T he start is dete rmined
by a MEMORY RESET and after 24 hours, the memory i s automatically re set and a n ew
recording begins. Ex ample: You want to be a ble to read the MIN/M AX values of th e last
24 hours in each case at 8 p.m. Y ou therefore carry out a MEMORY RESET at 8 p.m.
With this RESET, the clock begins to tick i nternally and thi s automatical ly resets the
memory after 24 hours and starts a new recording.
Battery compartment
2 x 1.5 batterie s of the size AM-4 resp . “AAA”
To open: slide l id in the direct ion of the arrow (indicated on the lid) aft er the stand ha s been
removed .
3. PUTTING INT O OPERAT ION
1. Put all radio sen sors that you want to use into op eration and pla ce these in cl ose proximity
(1-2 metres) to the reception dev ice.
2. Open the battery co mpartment of the display dev ice and rem ove all insulation strips. If n o
batteries are in the device, insert the 2 batteries (UM-3 or ‘AA’ 1.5 V) i n the correct polarity.
3. Now close the b attery compartment.
4. Directly after the a ctivation of t he batteries, all segments are displayed f or a few seco nds on
the display. The JKTG-4R then be gins with the search of availabl e sensors on all 5 channels.
5. As soon as the s ensor is displ ayed correctly (see ‘Reception status’ in Chap., 4), you can set
up the sensor in the place where y ou want to effective ly measure the outdoor temperatur e.
Under the most ideal conditions, this can be up to 30 m away . In reality, howev er, this is often
less. In the ev ent of problems, try out oth er places, and do so both for the sensor and for the
display device . The radio sensor is weatherpr oof. Neverthele ss, please place the sensor
where possib le in the dry a nd at any rate in the shade.
6. If you would like to display furt her sensors on the re ception d evice, you can pur chase the se
from shops. For outdo or use, we recom mend weatherproof sensors. If y ou would like to
display other int erior spaces, the sensor JKR-1 from the ‘Instrument s by Jörg Kachelmann’
range is availab le in the same design as th at of the display dev ice and also has a large
display.
The unit is in searching mode.
T emperature readings are
securely registered.
No signals.
4. RA D I O TH E RMO ME T ER
The operation of th e radio sensor s upplied with the device is easy:
- Open battery comp artment
- Select channel
- Activate batterie s (i.e. remov e insulation str ip) or insert batteries (please m ake sure tha t the
polarity is correct !)
- Close battery co mpartment again ( please ensure t hat it is t ightly closed!)
Other Irox radio sen sors that are co mpatible w ith the JKTG-4R:
3 channels (can be used on th e channels, 1, 2 or 3) : HTS12C, HTS33, HT S13*, HTC13
5 channels (can be used on all 5 channels): HTS55, JKR-1
(*HTS13 is incl uded in the sc ope of delivery of th e JKTG-4R and can be used on the
channels 1-3)
With the sensors with thermo and hy grometer, sim ply only the tem perature is dis played on the
JKTG-4R.
