CA-340 modular car alarm 1/4 VAV50204
Car alarm CA-340 “Nestor” functions, controls
The CA-340 c ar alarm is intended fo r installat ion inside a vehicle w ith a 12 or 24V
power supply and negativ e ground. It i s protected against the r eversal of po les and
overvoltage, th e activation input s are protected ag ainst short cir cuit and voltage
induction.
Car alarm function overview
A bu ilt-in sh ock d etecto r with adjustable sensi tivity controlled with a trimmer
inside the unit. Its ac tivation can trigger a warning (1s siren chirp), t rigger an
alarm or do bot h. If an alar m function is set, the un it uses a f ilter eliminating
accidental shocks (e.g. caused by a hea vy vehicle passing b y …). The alarm
is triggered only when the firs t shock is followed b y another within 15 s econds.
If both th e siren and the a larm are set, th e first sh ock tri ggers a s hort si ren
chirp and the second shock (within 1 5 s) triggers the alarm.
A voltage drop detector registers sudden voltage dr ops caused by an
appliance whic h switches on when the alar m is armed (protec tion against a
mechanical breach of the central locking system). The detect or is blocked for
20 minutes after arming (allo ws the radiator cool ing fan to wind down). You
can also program it to remain s witched off permanent ly if you use in dependent
appliances in the car (heater, refrigerator) .
The car alarm is eq uipped with se veral contact se nsors , whose number
depends on how the alarm is con nected (see belo w).
Up to 8 J A -8x wirele ss det ectors can be enrolled to the ca r alarm. These
can be used to detect motion insi de the vehic le or the brea king of windo ws or
to guard the gara ge in which the vehicle is parked.
A programmable output which can t rigger the power suppl y to auxiliar y
detectors (micro wave, tilt) that are activated when the alarm is armed or it can
provide a sig nal for the contr olling of a CR-1 1A (AUX) module.
The immobiliser circuit can be us ed to im mobili ze the i gnitio n, the fu el pump
or the ignit ion circuit. W hen the AU TO I MO func tion is active, the immobiliser is
activated auto matically if the ignition key is s witched off for more than 5
minutes. The AUTO IMO can be sw itched off by a rem ote contr ol butto n.
When an alarm is triggered, a siren is a ctivated for 30s. When the a larm is
terminated in a regular way, the siren is switched off i mmediately.
The siren ca n also be us ed for the acoustic confirmation of arming and
disarming (optional pa rameter). For other functi ons, see Acoustic signaling.
W hen you leave you r vehicle in a car servicing company for maintenance,
the AUTOIMO function and the acous tic signaling can easily be t emporarily
disabl ed.
Optical signaling of arming, disarming and alarms. The car alarm can
control the direction ind icators (flashers) in three optional modes.
Boot opening. When th e alarm is a rmed, yo u can use a r emote co ntrol to
open the car boot if its mechanis m allows it. (The BLK output func tion must be
set to control the boot)
PA NI C is a function which allows trigge ring a siren with a remot e control both
in an armed and an u narmed state (by pressing both butto ns at the same
time). It ca n also help you f ind your vehicle quickly in a crowd ed car park.
The car alarm is equipped with a Vale t butto n for emer gency disarming . The
button can also s erve for t he setting of optional para meters.
The information conc erning operating status of the alarm is si gnaled with an
LED.
The car a larm settings and parameters can be changed easil y using the
CA-340PRG wireless module connec ted to a compute r.
Car alarm controls
The car alarm ca n be arme d by locking the vehic le with the origina l remote
control or by pressi ng the
key on the RC-8x remote contro l (depending on the
means of connection ).
Partial setti ng. When the setting key is pressed re peatedly dur ing the e xit
delay (20s a fter the al arm setting ) the shock a nd voltage drop detectors and
wireless detec tors guarding the inside of the vehicle are disable d. NOTE: this
function is not available when the car alarm is connected for controlling with the
original remote control without using a CAN-Bus (= AL1 input is set to confirm
arming and disarming)
The car ala rm can be disarm ed by unloc king th e vehicl e with t he ori ginal
remote con trol or by p ressing the key on the RC-8x remote cont rol (depending
on the means of connection).
Rearming function If the car alarm i s unarmed a nd no sensor i s activated
within one minute (no o ne gets into the car), the alar m is arme d again. I f the alarm
controls the central locking system, the veh icle is locked simultaneous ly. This
function can be s et by parameter 2 ( REARM).
Boot opening. The car booth can be opened by press ing both re mote control
buttons (the a vailability of this function depends on the means of insta llation).
Alarm
When armed, the car a larm checks the D OOR contact sw itches, INP1, INP 2,
INP3 sensors whe re boot, bonnet o r other detector s can be connected and
manipulation with the ig nition key . It also reac ts to the ac tivation of th e integrat ed
shock detecto r, voltage dr op and enrolled w ireless det ectors. The w ireless dete ctors
can be set to a 2 0s entrance delay (see t he detecto r manual). If any of the alarm
sensors are activated i n the peri od of guardin g, a 30s alarm is triggered. When the
alarm has finished , the car alarm r emains ac tive.
If the car alarm is controlled w ith original remote controls, the currently
active alarm can be terminated by unlocking the vehicle using the remote
control. The car alarm is concurrently disarmed .
When the car alarm is controlled with an RC-8x remote control, pressing
the
or
keys can terminate the currently active alarm. Pressing the
key again disarms the alarm.
Emergency disarming – if the remote control gets lost or is faul ty, the car
alarm can be d isarmed by pressing the hidden Valet button as follows :
Open the car door s (triggers an alarm), s witch on the ig nition key and p ress the
Valet button. The emergency disar ming can be disabled (parameter 4).
LED visual signaling
The LED indic ates th e ala rm stat us as f ollow s:
the LED is off - the car a larm is unarmed
permanen tly lit - exit dela y in progres s
regular short f lashes - the car al arm is ar med
rapid flashing - entrance de lay in progress
regular short fa ding - AUTOIMO function act ivated
When the ign ition key is switched on, the LED indicate s the number of enrolled
RC-8x control lers.
Three alarm ch irps during unarming indi cate that the re has be en an alar m
since the last sett ing. When you turn on the ignition key, the LED then indica tes
the cause of the alarm. The signaling i s repeated 5 times. Th e number of flashes
indicat es the s ensor whi ch trig gered th e alarm:
1 flash - t he door sensor (DOOR) was activated
2 flashe s - th e INP1 sensor was activated
3 flashe s - th e INP2 sensor was activated
4 flashe s - th e INP3 sensor was activated
5 flashe s – the voltage drop s ensor (an applian ce was switched on )
6 flashe s – shock detector alarm
7 flashes – t he ignition key wa s switched on in an armed state
1 to 8 fadings – wireless detector (acco rding to the o rder in which i t is enrolled)
The cause of the last two alarms can be vie wed retroactive ly. If you press the
Valet button when the ignition ke y is on, the LED indicates the cause of the last
alarm 10 times successively. If you pre ss the Valet button a gain during th e
signaling, the cause of t he previous alarm is also shown ten times. The indication
is terminated when the igni tion key is swit ched off.
Acoustic signaling
Setting: 1 chirp * Partial arming: two quick chirp s
Unarming: 2 chirps * Unarming after an alarm: 3 chirps
* can be disabled by setting partial acoustic signaling
Fault signaling:
Whe n armed, the car alar m tests th e sensors for approx. 6 s. If an y of the
sensors i s activat ed during this per iod of time (e.g. due to an impro perly clos ed
door) it is sig naled w ith 4 quick chirps. The alarm is armed bu t the senso r
which remained active is disc onnected (it c an react only when it is deact ivated
again –the do or is close d, etc.)
If a C A -340 SIR w ireless antenn a is installe d, then the act ivation of the en gine
compartment sw itch is signa led with 5 quick chirps .
If the alarm emits 6 quick chirps , it signals that the battery in one of the wirele ss
detectors is l ow. When the ign ition key is switched on, it is po ssible to find out
which detecto r it is accordi ng to the fa ding of the LED (1 to 8 – pursua nt to the
order in whic h the detect ors are enrol led).
Temporary silent control and disabling of the
AUTOIMO
If it is necessary due to any reaso n (putting the v ehicle in a car s ervicing
company for mainte nance, holiday ) the acousti c signaling and AUTOIMO
function can eas ily be temporarily disabled by switching off the i gnition key
while holding the Valet button. It is con firmed with an acoustic signal. T hese
functions can b e enabled again in the same w ay, on con dition that the y are
not disabled permanently in the settings .
Maintenance
The device does no t require any spe cial maint enance. We recommend regular
inspections of door and bonnet con tact functioning, or possibly of the auxiliary
detectors. This inspection should be performed b y a profess ional installer with
whom regular annua l inspections sh ould be arranged .
