CLEANING THE EXTERIOR
• Disconnect the system from AC po wer bef ore cleaning the exterior of the unit with a soft dust cloth.
HANDLING CDS
• Do not touch the signal surfaces . Hold by the edges , or by one edge and the hole .
• Do not affix labels or adhesive tape to the label surf aces. Also , do not scr atch or damage the label.
• Discs rotate at high speed inside the play er . Do not use damaged (cr acked or w ar ped) discs.
CLEANING CDS
• Dir ty discs can cause poor sound quality . Alwa ys keep discs clean by wiping them gently with a soft cloth from
the inner edge toward the outer perimeter .
• If a disc becomes dir ty , wet a soft cloth in water , wring it out well, wipe the dir t awa y gently , and then remove
any water drops with a dry cloth.
• Do not use record cleaning spra ys or antistatic agents on discs. Also , ne ver clean discs with benzene , thinner ,
or other volatile solv ents which may cause damage to the disc surf ace.
T APE CARE
• Do not expose tapes to sunlight or store in hot places . High temperatures ma y warp the shell or damage the
tape itself.
•Keep cassettes in their box es when not in use.
• Cassette tapes can be erased by magnetic fields produced b y magnets, electric motors, electrical transf ormers,
and other de vices. K eep tapes aw ay from magnets and magnetic fields.
CLEANING THE T APE HEADS
Iron o xide par ticles from the magnetic tape can build up on the parts that come in contact with the tape. These
deposits can cause incomplete erasure, m uffled playbac k sound, and might prev ent automatic stop .
To clean a cassette deck, open the compar tment door , press PLA Y and gently clean the heads, capstan, and
pinch wheel with a head cleaner .
Alwa ys unplug the power cord bef ore cleaning, and allow 30 min utes dr ying time after using a liquid cleaner .
Clean heads after e very 25 hours of use.
• Demagnetize the head occasionally with a head demagnetizing cassette (a vailab le from many audio equipment
stores).
•Never use any metal objects on or near the tape heads .
• Do not allow any cleaning material to f all into the tape assembly .

Insert 6 D-sized dr y batteries (not supplied) and you can take
your system just about an ywhere. Open the battery compar tment
door on the back of the unit b y pressing down the two tabs and

Important Battery Information
• If you are not going to use y our system for a month or more , be sure
to remov e batteries because they can leak and cause damage.
• Dispose of batteries in the proper manner , according to federal, state , and local regulations.

ANTENNAS
The AM antenna is built in, so adjusting the position of the unit ma y help AM reception. The FM telescopic
antenna on the back of the unit can be e xtended and rotated f or better FM reception.
GENERAL CONTR OLS
FUNCTION switch – Mo ve the s witch to select which par t of this system you w ant to select – TUNER, T APE or
CD .
V OLUME – T urn the volume knob to increase or decrease the v olume to desired lev el.
HBS – Press so that the HBS indicator lights . Y ou can enjoy po werful bass sound with the Hyper-Bass Sound
eff ect.
PO WER OFF – Mo ve FUNCTION to OFF/T APE with no cassette b utton pressed, to turn the unit off.
USING THE RADIO
TUNING IN RADIO ST A TIONS
Mov e FUNCTION to TUNER to turn the radio on.
• Set BAND to AM or FM.
•Tune in desired station by turning the TUNING knob .
•To turn off the radio, mo ve FUNCTION to OFF/T APE.
BEA T CUT/FM MODE SWITCH
• When recording an AM br oadcast
When recording an AM broadcast, beats ma y occur . If this happens, set the s witch
to “1” or “2. ”
• Changing the FM reception mode
When an FM stereo broadcast is hard to receive or noisy , set the s witch to “MONO . ”
Reception improv es.
To restore the stereo eff ect, switch to “STEREO . ”
USING THE T APE
PAUSE – Press to interrupt tape play or record mode. Press a second time to resume tape play or tape record
mode.
ST OP/EJECT – Press to stop the current tape activity , or to open the cassette compartment door when no
buttons are activ e.
FF – In stop mode, press to advance the tape to ward the end. (When the tape reaches the end, press
ST OP/EJECT to release the depressed button.)
REW – In stop mode , press to rewind the tape to ward the beginning. (When the tape reaches the end, press
ST OP/EJECT to release the depressed button.)
PLA Y – Press to play cassettes .
REC – Press to record from the r adio or CD play er .
PLA YING A CASSETTE T APE
1. Mov e FUNCTION to OFF/T APE.
2. Press ST OP/EJECT to open the cassette compar tment door .
3. Insert a cassette tape into the compar tment with the exposed par t of the tape f acing up and the side you want
to play f acing tow ard you.
4. Close the door securely .
5. Press REW or FF to move the tape to the desired starting point.
6. Press PLA Y to begin pla ying the tape. The cassette tape pla ys until it reaches the end of the side, then it
automatically stops.
RECORDING ON CASSETTE T APES
Y ou can record from the r adio or the CD play er .
F or best recording, use nor mal bias tape.
It should be noted that it may be unla wful to re-record pre-recor ded tapes, records, or discs without
the consent of the owner of cop yright in the sound or video recording, broadcast or cab le program
and in any literary , dramatic, m usical, or artistic work embodied therein.
ERASE PRO TECTION
When you record ne w material, the cassette deck records ov er whatev er is on a tape. T o protect a tape from
accidental erasure, break off one or both plastic tabs (one f or each tape side) on the top of the cassette tape . If
you decide later to record on the tape , seal the hole with a piece of cellophane tape.
W ARNING
A little bit of slack in y our tape can cause scratches on the tape, or w orse yet, the tape
could break. If y ou notice some slack in the tape, use a pencil to tighten it up bef ore you
inser t it in the tape deck.
TIP
The use of tapes longer than 120 minutes is not recommended, since char acteristic deter ioration ma y occur and
these tapes easily jam in the pinch-roller and the capstan.
RECORDING FR OM THE RADIO
1. Insert a cassette tape into the tape deck and close the door .
2. Mov e FUNCTION to TUNER and select a radio station.
3. Press REC to begin recording. REC and PLA Y loc k do wn.
4. Press ST OP/EJECT to end recording.
5. T o turn off the radio , slide FUNCTION to
OFF/T APE.
RADIO RECORDING TIPS
•To temporarily pause the recording, press P A USE on the cassette deck. Press P A USE again to resume
recording.
SYNCHRONIZED RECORDING FR OM A CD
1. Insert a cassette tape into the tape deck and close the door .
2. Mov e FUNCTION to CD .
3. Insert the CD you want to record into CD compartment.
4. Select the trac k you want to record b y pressing (skip/search) or (skip/search).
5. Press REC
to star t recording.
Note that the tape continues to run when the CD finishes pla ying, or the CD continues to play when the tape
reaches the end.
TIP
Using the P A USE b utton on the cassette deck instead of the ST OP/EJECT b utton to momentarily
interrupt recording gives you a m uch cleaner sound recording.

1. Mov e FUNCTION to CD; “– –” flashes , then “no” appears in the displa y if no CD is loaded.
2. Press ) PUSH to open the CD door .
3. Place a CD into the tra y with the label f acing up.
4. Close the CD door . Then the total n umber of tracks appears.
5. T o remov e the CD , press ) PUSH, g rasp the CD by its edges, and carefully pull it out.
PLA YING A CD
Press PLA Y/P A USE to pla y all the tracks in order starting with track 1. The current tr ack number appears in
the displa y .
Note: Press PLA Y/P AUSE to temporarily stop the CD . The indicator and the trac k number flash in the
displa y . Press PLA Y/P A USE again to resume pla ying the CD .
• Adjust V OLUME to a comfortable le vel.
• Press ST OP 7 to stop playing the CD . W ait a f ew seconds f or the CD to stop turning, then press ) PUSH to
open the CD compar tment door and remov e the CD .
A UT OMATIC SEARCH
Automatic search lets you quickly locate the beginning of an y trac k on the CD , including the trac k currently
playing. If the CD is playing:
• Press (skip/search) once to return to the beginning of the current trac k, press twice to retur n to the
beginning of the pre vious track.
• Press
(skip/search) to skip to the beginning of the next tr ack.
If the CD is stopped, repeatedly press
(skip/search) or (skip/search) until the display shows the n umber
of the trac k you w ant to play , then press PLA Y/P A USE . The CD play er star ts pla ying the selected track.
TRACK SEARCH
• In play mode , press and hold (skip/search) to mov e forward through a tr ack at high speed.
• In play mode , press and hold (skip/search) to mov e backward through a tr ack at high speed.
REPEA T
The REPEA T button allo ws you to repeat one trac k (REP 1) or all tracks (REP ALL). T o scroll through the
choices, continuously press and release REPEA T and chec k the display to see which choice y ou hav e selected.
The follo wing char t illustrates how REPEA T w orks in various modes.
NORMAL REP 1 REP ALL
•You cannot select the “REP 1” mode for the r andom play .
RANDOM
Press RANDOM so that “RAND” appears in the display . Star t play b y pressing PLA Y/P AUSE , and the tracks
are pla yed in random order .
To quit random pla y , press RANDOM again.
PROGRAMMING
Press PROGRAM to enter prog ram edit mode.
“00” and “PR OG” will flash in the display . Press (skip/search) or (skip/search) to select the tr ack
number and press PR OGRAM to store the number in program place. Y ou can repeat these steps to prog ram up
to 20 trac ks. Note that progr amming more than 20 tracks will o verwrite the tracks already prog rammed.
During program pla y , “PROG” lights steadily . T o confirm the program order , press PROGRAM in stop mode . Each
time y ou press PROGRAM, the program n umber appears, then the corresponding trac k number flashes in order
from the first programmed trac k.
To clear the entire program in the memory , tur n the unit off , or open the CD door.
This unit has been designed only to pla y back the f ollowing CDs.
• Digital audio CD
• Recordable digital audio CD (CD-R)
•Rewr itable digital audio CD (CD-R W)
When playing a CD-R or CD-R W
Y ou can pla y back finaliz ed CD-R or CD-RW recorded in m usic CD format. (If a CD-R W has been recorded in a
different f ormat, erase all the data on the CD-R W completely before recording on it.)
•You can pla y back CD-R or CD-R W like an audio CD .
• Some CD-R or CD-RW ma y not be pla yed back on this unit because of their disc char acteristics, damage or
stain on them, or if the play er lens is dir ty .
• The reflection factor of CD-R W is low er than that of other CDs, possib ly causing CD-RW to tak e longer time
to read.
• CD-R and CD-R W of MP3 format cannot be play ed back.

Problem Solution
• Make sure power cord is securely plugged into the A C po wer outlet (or
that the batteries are fresh).
• Unplug the unit for a moment, and then plug it bac k in again.
• Check the outlet b y plugging in another device .
• Adjust volume setting.
• Make sure you ha ve selected the correct function: CD , T APE, or TUNER
and the headphones are disconnected.
• Adjust the FM telescopic antenna for better FM reception.
• Rotate the unit to achiev e better AM reception.
•Try turning off electr ical appliances near the unit, such as TV , hair dryers,
v acuum cleaners, or fluorrescent lights.
• Make sure the tra y contains a CD .
• Make sure the CD’ s label is f acing up.
• Make sure that pause mode is not activ ated.
• Make sure CD function is selected.
• Clean the CD (as explained in “CARE AND MAINTENANCE”).
• Check CD f or warping, scratches, or other damage.
• Check f or vibration or shock that ma y aff ect the unit; move system if
necessary .
• Inspect the recording head and clean it if necessar y .
• Demagnetize recording head (as e xplained in “CARE AND
MAINTENANCE”).
