9 pacemakers
■
Pacemaker manufacturers recommend that a minimum
separation of 16 cm (6 inches) be maintained between
a handheld phone and a pacemaker to avoid potential
interference with the pacemaker. These recommendations
are consistent with the independent research of and
recommendations of Wireless Technology Research.
Users with pacemakers should therefore:
■
Always keep your phone at least 20 cm
(8 inches) away from your pacemaker when the phone is
switched on.
■
Never carry your phone in your breast pocket.
■
Use the ear opposite to the pacemaker to minimise the
potential for interference.
■
Switch off your phone immediately if you suspect that
interference is being caused.
