1. SCAN-mode
The SCAN mode monitors the busy channels .
It is used to check the traffic radio on the 8 channels before transmitting and allows the unit to stop
on a channel that someone is talking on. When the radio stops on a busy channel, the scan will
resume after about 5 seconds.

Hold the VOX [8] button down for longer than 2 sec. Y“V
will appear on the display to confirm the function is enabled. Speak into the microphone [5]:

To disable the VOX mode, press the VOX [8] button on the front of the radio for longer than
2 sec.

Battery compartment
To open the battery compartment, hold the unit face down and unhook the battery holder in the lower
part of the radio; gently slide the cover towards the bottom of the radio.
The ALAN 443 accepts 3 x AAA alkaline or rechar
** Coverage
The maximum range is obtained during use in an open space. The only limitation to maximum
possible range are environmental factors such as blockage caused by tr
obstructions. Inside a car or a metallic constructions, the range can be reduced.

VOX function is automatically disabled.
CALL-BUTTON [9]
1. Sending
By pressing the CALL [9] button your ALAN 443 is sending an audio signal to other users on
the same frequency
2. VOX sensitivity setting
To get the most use from the VOX feature you must first determine what sensitivity (noise
level) is needed to activate the VOX circuit.

sitivity is now adjusted.
VOX can be adjusted in 3 positions:
› L1: high sensitivity (normal voice with no background noise)
› L2: medium sensitivity (for slightly noisier areas)
› L3: low sensitivity (useful in very noisy areas or if you talk loudly)
4) Press [7] to confirm.
3. VOX delay time setting
This function keeps the radio in transmit mode after you stop talking. This delay can be
adjusted (if it is set too short it may cause transmission to stop between some words) and
allows you to speak at a steady rate with no loss of transmission.

Basic functions
To turn radio on/of
Rotate the OFF/VOLUME [1] knob clockwise to tur
(may be inhibited). The LCD [3] displays a self-test message for 1 second, it will then indicate chan-
nel 1.
Voadjustment
To adjust the volume level, hold MON [10] button down while rOFF/VOLUME [1] knob until
you reach a comfortable listening level. Rotate it clockwise to increase and anti-clockwise to decr
the volume. Release the MON [10] button. Now your Alan 443 is ready to receive and transmit.
Transmission
For maximum speech clarityPTT button
[11] pressed and speak into the unit [5]. During transmission the display shows .
When the PTT [11] is released, the radio beeps to confirm to other users that your transmission has
finished (see paragraph “Roger Beep”).
Reception
Simply release the PTT [11] button . When you r is displayed.
Background noise reduction (Squelch).
In your ALAN 443 the background noise reduction device (squelch) is activated by default. Hold MON
[10] button down to deactivate it. In this way
Automatic power save
ALAN 443 is supplied with an automatic current economy circuit. If the transceiver r
nal for 7 seconds or longer the “power save function” automatically activates. (“power saver” ) blinks
on the displayThe battery life may increase by up to 50 %.
When the batteries are in need of charging, icon will be displayed [3]: it is necessary to
replace the alkaline batteries or recharge the Ni-Cd/NiMH ones.

2. CTCSS-sub-tone setting
ALAN 443 can receive in two modalities:
open traffic:
in this case you will hear any communication transmitted on the selected channel.
group mode CTCSS:
CTCSS tones are access keys that allows you to receive only messages coming fr
the same channel and code. Speaker will remain muted until the corr
To tivate 38 different CTCSS tones in RX and TX follow these steps:
1. T
2. Select with the / [6] buttons one of the 8 channels.
3. Press twice the “F ” button until the display [3] shows the selected channel with the flashing
CTCSS code segment.
4. Select with the / [6] buttons the desired CTCSS-Code.
5. Press [7] to confirm the setting.
Now the radio transmits and receives using the programmed CTCSS tone. If you don’
tones, select “00”.

This feature allows you to scan 2 channels of your choice. It is useful when you want to keep track
of two other people.
To enable it:
1. T
2. Select / [6] keys the first channel you want to monitor
3. Press F [8] button until ”Dw ” blinks on the display
4. Select the second channel to be scanned by / [6] buttons.
Now the radio begins scanning between these 2 channels until activity is heard on either channel.
The scanning restarts when the carrier disappears.
To stop Dual WPTT [11], or [7] or CALL [9] keys.

When PTT [11] is released the radio will beep to confirm to other users that your transmission has
finished. This feature is enabled by default.
To disable it, follow these steps:
1. Press repeatedly the «F» [8] key until the LCD shows:

6. Out-of-range
The ALAN 443 contents an “out of range” control function. By setting this mode a pair of ALAN 443
is transmitting every 30 seconds a data control code. As soon as the contact between both units is
getting lost and one station doesn’t receive this data contr
starts flashing in the display and you will hear a beep tone.
To enable/disable Out-range-control
1. T
2. Select by using the / [6] buttons a channel.
3. Press the “F” [8] button six times until the display shows:
“OFF” and flashing icon.
4. Press / [6] buttons to select “ON ” or “OFF”.
5. Press button to confirm your selection.
6. Repeat this operation with second device.
Notice: It is recommendable to select the babychannels in quiet environments. For all baby moni-
toring channels VOX is automaticallyactivated, that means the unit will transmit as soon as it notes a
noise (during the setting too). Therefore it may be that channels cannot be changed until the signal
(noise) is getting lost.

One minute after the alarm transmission has been set, the alarm transmission will be acti-
vated. As soon as the alarm sensor notes a high noise, caused by damaging the window or
other vibrations, it sends an alarm signal to the control station. If alarm signal is send, the unit
initiate after a few seconds an continuous acoustic alarm tone. After receiving the alarm sig-
nal the control station (second device) starts alarm and the display shows icon.
Notice: For this function you need first of all two PMRs; the most important fact hereby is
that both devices are indicated with the same channel- and CTCSS- setting. Only one unit
can be connected to alarm sensor and set with alarm transmission mode.
8. Reset
In case your ALAN 443 does not work properly or you want to cancel all the user settings, it
is necessary to hold F [8] button down for 2 seconds while switching the unit on.

ALAN 443 può ricevere in due modalità:
a) "traffico

b) "modalità di gruppo CTCSS"
I toni CTCSS funzionano come una sorta di codice di accesso e vi consentono di comunicare solo
con quegli utenti che hanno il Vs. stesso canale e codice. La radio rimarrà silenziata fino al ricevi-

Accensione
Ruotare la manopola ON-OFF/VOLUME [1] in senso orario. ALAN 443 emette una serie di beep con
tonalità diverse (escludibili); il display [3] opera un auto test per un secondo e visualizza il canale stan-
dard numero 1.
Regolazione volume
Per regolare il volume al livello ottimale, tenerMON [10] e ruotarON-
OFF/VOLUME [1] in senso orario finchè non si ottiene il livello desiderato. Rilasciare il tasto MON [10].

3) Impostazione della radio in ricezione
Selezionare un canale pre-prE- (in questo caso E1) tramite i tasti / [6].
La funzione VOX nei canali E- è disabilitata di default.
TASTO CALL [9]

Premendo il tasto CALL [9], l’ALAN 443 invia un segnale sonoro di avviso/chiamata ad altri
utenti sintonizzati sullo stesso canale.
2. Impostazione sensibilità VOX
Per ottenere il miglior funzionamento della funzione VOX, è importante determinare il livello di
sensibilità ottimale per attivare tale dispositivo.

2. Accendere l’apparato tenendo premuto il tasto CALL [9],
il display [3] visualizza il livello di sensibilità corrente
(impostazione della fabbrica);
3. Utilizzare ora i tasti e [6] per selezionare il livello di sensibilità VOX desiderato:

volume di voce)

› L3: bassa sensibilità (per luoghi in cui il rumore di fondo è alto o se parlate con un alto

3. Impostazione ritardo VOX
Il ritardo è una funzione del VOX che mantiene la radio in trasmissione quando avete finito di
parlare. Questo ritardo nell’ALAN 443 è rmaniera natu-
rale, con le pause a cui siete abituati, senza che la trasmissione si interrompa.

2. Attivazione dei canali
Il PMR ha una serie di canali pre-programmati (b- ed E- ) che si utilizzano nella funzione baby-sitter
I canali da b1 a b0 hanno la funzione VOX attivata: la radio impostata su questi canali va quindi
posizionata nelle vicinanze del neonato da sorvegliare; quella invece utilizzata per ascoltare il bambi-
no andrà impostata sui canali E- (da E1 ad E0 ), che non dispongono di funzione VOX.
Affinché la funzione baby-sitter sia correttamente attivata, i due ricetrasmettitori devono operare sulla
stessa frequenza (stesso canale e stesso tono CTCSS
, vedi tabella sotto) es: se la radio posta vicino
al neonato è impostata sul canale b1, quella che servirà ai genitori per ascoltare dovrà essere imposta-
ta sul canale E1.
La sensibilità del VOX nei canali b- é fissata al livello 1, mentre il ritardo del VOX al livello 3 (d3).

2) Impostazione della radio da posizionar

Selezionare un canale pre-prb- (per esempio b1) tramite i tasti / [6]. Il display
mostra Vox che conferma l’attivazione della funzione baby-sitter
suono/rumore/voce generato in prossimità dell’apparato, il PMR commuta in transmissione.
Ora il ricetrasmettitore è pronto per trasmetter
Chiamare (trasmettere)
TenerPTT [11]. Parlar
male. Il display [3] visualizza .
Rilasciate il tasto PTT [11] al termine della conversazione. Il Vs. Alan 443 invierà al vs. interlocutore una
nota di fine trasmissione (Roger Beep).
(Per abilitare la funzione vedi paragrafo “Roger beep”).
Ascolto (Ricezione)
Al rilascio del tasto PTT [11] la vostra radio rimane in modalità di ascolto, indicata sul display dall’icona
. La ricezione di un segnale verrà invece indicata con l’icona .
Eliminazione Rumori di fondo/estensione copertura (Squelch).
Nell’Alan 443 il filtro per la riduzione del rumore di fondo (squelch) è sempr
tenere premuto il tasto MON [10].
In questo modo, é possibile ricevere anche segnali di bassa intensità.
Auto power save
Il dispositivo automatico di risparmio batterie consente di ridurre i consumi delle batterie fino al
50%; se la radio non riceve alcun segnale per più di 7 secondi la funzione viene attivata automatica-
mente e sul display [3] lampeggia “Power saver” .
Quando le batterie sono scariche, l’icona viene visualizzata sul display [3]: occorre sostituir-
le al più presto (se a secco) o provveder
Presa MIC/CHG [13]
Presa caricatore esterno. Si raccomanda di caricare le batterie esclusivamente con l’apposito carica-
tore.
Attenzione: le batterie alcaline non possono essere ricaricate.

Procedimento per l’attivazione dei 38 toni CTCSS in RX e TX:
1. Accendere
2. Sezionare il canale desiderato (1 degli 8 canali) tramite i tasti / [6].
3. Premere 2 volte il tasto “F” finchè il display mostra il canale selezionato con l’attuale tono CTCSS
lampeggiante.
4. Selezionare il tono CTCSS premendo i tasti / [6.
5. Per confermare l’impostazione, premer [7] .
Ora la radio trasmette e riceve utilizzando il tono CTCSS preimpostato. Se non si vuole operare con
alcun tono CTCSS, selezionare “00”.
3. DW (Dual W
Consente di monitorare (ascoltare) le conversazioni su 2 canali a scelta.
Per abilitare tale funzione :
1. Accendere l’ALAN 443.
2. Selezionare il primo canale che si desidera monitorar/ [6].
3. PremerF ” [8] fino a che sul display [3] lampeggia la scritta DW.
4. Selezionare il secondo canale che si desidera ascoltar/ [6].
L'apparato monitora ora ciclicamente solo i due canali impostati fino a che non riceve un segnale. Il
monitoraggio riprenderà una volta scomparso il segnale. Per interromper
premere a scelta [7] o CALL [9] o PTT [11] .

Al rilascio del tasto PTT [11], quindi alla fine di ogni trasmissione, viene emessa una tonalità che indi-
ca al vostro interlocutore che può iniziar
ed è indicata sul display con l’icona .
Disattivazione:
1. Premere ripetutamente il tasto “F” [8] finché sul display compare
= LAMPEGGIANTE .
2. Con i tasti o ” [6] selezionare “oFF”.
3. Premere il tasto [7] per confermare la pr
4. Il Roger Beep adesso è disattivato e l’icona scompare dal display [3].
5. Attivazione/Disattivazione Beep tastiera
1. PremerF ” [8] finché sul display comparoN ” con la scritta Beep lam-
peggiante.
2. Premero [6] e selezionare “oFF”.
3. Premer [7] per confermare la programmazione; la scritta Beep scompare dal display
[3] se la funzione è stata disattivata.
6. Funzione Out-of-range (fuori portata)
Grazie a questa funzione, una coppia di ALAN 443 si trasmette un codice di controllo ogni 30 secon-
di. Non appena questa trasmissione si interrompe ed uno dei due apparati non riceve il codice di con-
trollo per 2 volte consecutive, l’icona inizierà a lampeggiare sul display e la radio emetterà un beep.
Abilitazione/disabilitazione funzione Out-of-range
1. Accendere l’apparato.
2. Selezionare un canale premendo / [6].
3. Premere il tasto “F” [8] 6 volte finchè sul display comparOFF”
e lampeggia l’icona
4. Selezionare “ON ” o “OFF ” tramite i tasti / [6].
5. Confermare premendo .
6. Ripetere la stessa procedura con l’altr
Attivazione dispositivo Out-of-range
1. Abilitare la funzione Out-of-range seguendo la procedura descritta sopra.
2. Spegnere i due ricetrasmettitori
3. Accenderli di nuovo uno dopo l’altro e non contemporaneamente entr
7. Abilitare/disabilitare funzione “Avviso di allarme”
1) Per fissare il sensore d’allarme opzionale
, seguire le istruzioni riportate nel manuale del sen-
sore (sensore d’allarme mod. AS443).
2) Collegare il sensore d’allarme al jack MIC CHG [13] dell’apparato.
3) Premendo / [6] selezionare un canale e successivamente un tono CTCSS con
una frequenza di tono sub-audio alta (per esempio canale 5, tono CTCSS 32).
4) Selezionare il livello desiderato di sensibilità del VOX (l’impostazione della fabbrica è il
livello 2).
5) Premere il tasto “F ” sette volte finchè “OFF ” e
l’icona lampeggiante appaiono sul display
6) Premere / [6] per selezionare “ON ” o “OFF”.
7) : se la funzione è attivata, il simbolo viene visualizzato sul
display
Questa funzione, dopo essere stata impostata, impiega un minuti per attivarsi. Non appena il
sensore capta un rumore causato dal danneggiamento di un vetr

Nota:
Per questa funzione, sono necessari due PMR che devono essere sintonizzati sullo stesso canale
e tono CTCSS. Il sensore d’allarme va collegato su un solo apparecchio e la relativa funzione va
attivata solo su quest’ultimo.

Nel caso in cui la radio presenti un funzionamento anomalo o si vogliano cancellar
impostazioni programmate, è sufficiente accenderla tenendo prF”
[8]. Con questo procedimento, vengono ripristinate le impostazioni di fabbrica.
