Preparing Y o ur Radio
Installing the Battery
1. Make sure your ra dio is OFF .
2. T o remove the battery compartment door, by pressing the tab at
the bottom of the co mpartment door. Remove the door .
3. Insert NiMH battery pack or 4 AAA batteries into t he battery
compartment.
4. Replace the batte ry compartment door.

Charging the Radio
1. Make sure your ra dio is OFF .
2. Plug the AC adapter i nto the DC in 9V Jack.
3. Charge battery for 16 hours.
Basic Radio Operations
Read this reference guid e completely before attemptin g to operate
the unit.
T urning Y our Radio On/Off
Press and hold the MENU/ button to turn you r radio ON/OFF .
Adjusting the V olume
Adjust the volume by pressing the an d buttons.
Adjusting the Sound (Key Beeps)
Y our radio emits a beep each time one of the buttons is p ressed
(except the PTT and button).
Press and hold th e button while turn ing the radio ON to swi tch the
sound ON/OFF .
Indicates that the battery is f ully charged.
Blinks when battery is low; cha rge the radio or replace batte ries
immediately.
Selecting a Channel and a Sub-cod e
In order to speak to s omeone, both your radios mus t be set to the
same channel and sub-code.
T o select a channel:
1. SEL/ button to enter Select Men u. Advance until the Channel
Indicator blinks.
2. or to the required cha nnel.
T o select a sub-code:
1. SEL/ button to enter Select M enu. Advance until the
Sub-code Indicator blinks.
2. or to the required sub -code.
3. Exit the Select Menu.
T alking on Y our Radio
1. Hold your radio 5– 8 cm from your mouth.
2. Press and hold th e PTT button whil e speaking. The
appears on the display.
3. Release the PTT but ton. Y ou can now receive inco ming calls.
When you do, the appears on the di splay . T o respond, re peat
procedure from step 1.
Note: When you continue to transmit for 60 seconds, the
radio emits TX Time Out tone and the icon flashes.
The radio will stop transmitting.
Navigating through the Menu
Y our radio has two menu functions : Mode Menu and Sel ect Menu.
1. T o enter the Mode Menu, press t he MENU/ button.
2. T o enter the Select Menu, press the SEL/ button.
3. Additio nal presses of the MENU/ button or t he SEL/ button
will advance you thro ugh the Menu.
4. T o exit the Menu function, do o ne of the following:
a. Press and hold the MENU/ button.
b. Press and hold the PTT, MON or the button.
c. Wait 10 seconds until the unit automatically retu rns to
“Normal” mode.
Features on Y our Radio
V oice Operated T ransmission (VOX)
Transmission is initiated by sp eaking into the micropho ne of the
radio or the headset (headset is not included ) instead of pushing
the PTT button.
T o select the VOX level:
1. SEL/ button to enter Select Menu. Advance until
blinks.
2. o r to the desired VOX sensitiv ity level.
3. Exit the Select M enu.
Note: Level oF (OFF) disables VOX. Levels 1-5 set the
sensitivity of the VOX circuit. Us e level 1 in quiet
environments, and use level 5 in very noisy
environments. Y ou can find the appropriate sensitivity
level by speaking into the microphone. If the
flashes, your vo ice is accepted.
Call T one
Y our radio is equipped with 5 sele ctable call tones.
T o select a call tone:
1. SEL/ button to enter Select Menu. Advance until
blinks.
2. o r to the desired call to ne.
3. Exit the Select M enu.
T o transmit a call tone, press the button.
Press the PTT button to ca ncel the call tone.
Auto Power Off
Auto Power Off feature allows yo u to set the time that the rad io
turns off automatically.
1. SEL/ button to enter Select Menu. Advance until
and the
current Auto Power Off time blinks.
2. or to select the time from oF (Off), 60, 120 or 180 m inutes.
3. Exit the Select M enu.
Channel Scan Mode
Enables your radio to scan for active channel s. When activity is
detected, your radio lands (stays) on that chan nel (for 2 seconds).
T o transmit on that channel, press the PTT b utton. When activity
on the landed chan nel ends, your radio co ntinues scanning other
channels.
T o turn the channel scan ON:
1. MENU/ to enter Mode Menu. Advance u ntil
blinks.
2. SEL/ to turn ON channel scan.
3. MENU/ , or PTT to turn OFF Scan mode.
Dual Watch Mode
Enables your to sca n the current channel and another channel
alternately .
T o set another channel and start Dual Watch:
1. MENU/ to enter Mode Menu. Advance unt il blinks.
2. or to select the channel, the n press SEL/ .
3. or to select the Sub-code, then press SEL/ .
4. T he radio starts to Dual Watch.
Note: If you set the same channel and Sub-code as the
current channel, Dual Watch doesn’t work.
5. MENU/ to turn the Dual Watch mode OFF .
Room Monitor
Enables your radio to detect voice/noises (acco rding to the
sensitivity level set) an d transmit back to the listening radio with out
pushing the PTT butto n. The monitoring radio is not able to
receive any tran smissions in this mode.
T o turn Room Monitor ON:
1. MENU/ to enter Mode Men u. Advance until blinks.
2. or to the desired room monitor sen sitivity level.
Note: Use level 1 in quie t environments. Use level 5 in very
noisy environments.
3. SE L/ to turn ON room monitor.
MENU/ to turn OFF Room M onitor .
Note: When the voice/noise in the monitored room continues
for more than 60 seconds, the monitorin g radio stop
monitoring for 5 seconds, and resumes.
Up Timer
Enables your radio t o time up to 39 minut es 59 seconds. Y o u can
receive incoming c alls in this mode.
T o use up timer:
1. MENU/ to enter Mode Menu. Ad vance until blinks.
2. SEL/ to select the Up Timer .
3. to start the Up Timer
4. MENU/ , , MON or PTT to sto p or reset up timer.
Key Lock
Press and hold SEL/ until / ”LOCK” appears to lock the keypad.
Press and hold SEL/ until / ”UNLK” disappears to unlock the
keypad.
LCD Backlight
The LCD display will a utomatically illuminate for 10 seconds after
any button is presse d (except for PTT).
Monitor Mode
Enables you to liste n for weak signals on the c urrent channel.
T o turn the Monitor Mode ON:
1. Press the MON button for brief listening. The ic on blinks.
2. Press and hold the MON button for 2 second s for continuous
listening. The icon continues to blink.
T o turn the Monitor Mode OFF:
Press the MON button to return to “Normal” mode. The icon
stops blink ing.
Roger Beep
Sounds to indicat e the end of a PTT or VOX transmissio n. It can
be heard through the s peaker when Key Beep is on. It cannot be
heard through the speaker if Key Beep is turned off.
Press and hold the b utton while turn ing the radio ON to t urn the
Roger Beep ON. Repeat the st ep to turn Roger Beep OFF .
Automatic Power Save
For better battery lif e, your radio is designed to switch to Power
Save mode when the re has been no transmiss ions after 3
seconds. The rad io can receive transm issions in this mode .

The authorized Motor ola dealer or reta iler where you purchase d your Motorola
two-way radio and/o r original accessories will honour a warranty claim and/or
provide warranty service.
Please return your radio to your dealer or retailer to claim your warranty se rvice.
Do not return your rad io to Motorola.
In order to be eligible to receive warranty service, you must p resent your receipt of
purchase or a comp arable substitute proof of pur chase bearing the date of
purchase. The two-way radio should also cle arly display the serial number . The
warranty will not apply if the t ype or serial numbers on the produc t have been
altered, deleted, removed, or made illegib le.
What Is Not Covered By The Warranty
Defects or dama ge resulting from use of the Product in other than its normal and
customary manner or by not following the instructio ns in this user manual.
Defects or damage from misuse, acciden t or neglect.
Defects of damage fr om improper testing, oper ation, maintenance, adjustme nt, or
any alteration or modification o f any kind.
Breakage or damage to aerials unless caused directly by defects in materia l or
workmanship.
