PRO TECT MODE
If one or more PROTECT LEDs tur n red or become all extinguished, this
indicates that the protection circuitry of the M27 had been engaged.
Immediately press the Standby button, turn o P ower switch and then
unplug the mains power cord fr om the mains power source. Undertake
the following
a Check if all speaker wires are connected correctly and that none of
the wires are damaged , causing a shor t circuit.
b Another cause may be excessive heat build-up inside the amplier .
Make sure there is adequate ventilation around the amplier and
that none of its ventilation slots, top or bottom ar e blocked. After
the amplier has cooled down, it will function normally again.
c In case one or more of the PRO TEC T LEDs or Po wer indicator
remained illuminated in red despit e the checks mentioned above,
immediately press the Standby button, turn o P ower switch and
then unplug the mains power cord fr om the mains power source.
Have the unit inspected by a qualied service technician before
attempting to use it again.
4 SELECT
• Use this switch to select the type of analog audio input.
• SELEC T switch settings
Upper position – SINGLE-ENDED input is selected.
Low er position – BALANCED input is selected.
W ARNING!
D o not adjust the SELECT switch while the M27 is at operating mode . Use
SELECT switch to choose BALANCED or SINGLE-ENDED only when the
M27 is at standby mode or powered down.
5 +12V TRIGGER IN
• The +12V T rigger input allows the M27 to be switched remotely
from standby mode to ON and vice-versa by an ancillary equipment
such as a preamplier , A V processor , etc. The controlling device
must be equipped with a 12V trigger output to use this feature .
W ARNING
The front panel (Standby) button is disabled as long as the male plug
of the mono cable (with or without +12V DC) is connected to M27’ s +12V
TRIGGER IN. Unplug the mono cable for the M27 to be normally switched
ON (or back to standby mode) using the front panel (Standby) button.
6 LED LEVEL (DIMMER)
• T oggle to reduce or r estore P ower indicator brightness or
completely turn it o.
7 FUSE HOLDER
• I n the unlikely event a fuse needs to be replaced, unplug the mains
power cord fr om the wall. Then, remov e all connections from the
amplier . Use a athead screw driver or similar to open the fuse
holder via the slot indicated. With the scr ew driver in place, push
and turn counterclockwise to open the fuse holder .
• Only replace the fuse with the same type, size, and specication.
IMPORT ANT NOTICE
Do not use any substitute fuses of dierent types or with dierent ratings
or values. F ailure to observe this precaution may cause damage to the
amplier circuits and may create a re hazard and/or defeat the safety
built into the amplier and may void the warr anty .
8 SPEAKER
• The M27 is equipped with gold-plated, color-coded, transparent
and special high-current binding-post speaker terminals.
• Connect FR ONT L, FRONT R, CENTER, SURR R, SURR L, SURR-BL and
SURR-BR speaker terminals to corresponding speakers. Make sure
the “+” (red) terminal and “-” (black) terminal are connected to the
corresponding “+” and “-” terminals of the speaker. Use extra care
to ensure that no stray wir es or strands cross between posts or
terminals at either end.
• The M27 is designed to produce optimum sound quality when
connected to speakers with impedances within its operating range.
Please make sure that all the speakers are rated 4 ohms minimum
per speaker .
NOTE
Use stranded wire of at least 16 gauge (A WG). Connections to the M27
can be made with banana plugs or by using bare wir e or pins. Use the
transverse hole throu gh the post for bare-wire or pin connections. By
loosening the terminal’ s plastic nut, make a clean, neat connection and
re-tighten carefully . T o minimize the danger of short- circuit, ensure that
only 1/2-inch of exposed wire or pin is employed when connecting .
9 POWER
• Supply the AC mains power to the M27.
• When the POWER switch is set to ON position, the M27 goes to
standby mode as shown by the amber status condition of the
Pow er indicator . Pr ess (Standby) button to switch ON the M27
from standby mode.
• I f you intend not to use the M27 f or long periods of time (such as
when on vacation), switch o the POWER switch.
• The (Standby) button cannot activate the M27 with the rear
panel POWER switched o.
10 A C MAINS INPUT
• The M27 comes supplied with two types of detachable mains
power cord . Select applicable t ype for your usage . Connect
corresponding end of the mains power cord t o the AC mains input
of M27 and the plug connected to a mains power source .
• Always disconnect the mains power plug from the mains power
source rst, befor e disconnecting the cable from the M27’ s AC
Mains input socket
DIGIT AL POWERDRIVE
The M27 uses NAD’ s proprietary Digital Pow erDrive™ amplier technology
that allows substantial additional power f or shor t periods of time. Research
has shown that the peak to average pow er required to faithfully r eproduce
music can be a factor of ten for well r ecorded performances. Digital
Pow erDrive uniquely satises this requirement. Music sounds more
dynamic and “ open” with PowerDrive because the musical transients
that are present in a live performance are not reduced in amplitude or
“ compressed” .
