Upgrading Random Access Memory (RAM)
Recommended Memory Configuration
Refer to “Specifications” on page 260 and to “Memory” on page 25 for more
information.
Checking System Memory
If you do not know how much memory is installed in your system, check the amount by
using the relevant following procedure.
1. On the Windows desktop, click on Start, and select Control Panel.
2. Click on Switch to classic view.
3. Double click on the System icon, and click on the General tab. This tab shows
the random access memory (RAM). This is the amount of system memory in
your computer.
Removing and Replacing a DDR2 module

If your memory configuration requires the removal of a module, perform the following
steps:
1. Remove the computer right side door. See “
Removing the Right Side Door” on
page 114.
2. Locate the memory upgrade sockets on the motherboard.
3. Press the plastic clips at the outer edge of the socket away from the memory
module. This ejects the memory module from the socket. Do not touch the
module's metal "fingers." Store the module in an anti-static bag (available at
electronic supply stores) or a cardboard box.
4. IAlign the new module with an empty memory socket. Make sure the notch on
the module aligns with the key in the socket. The module is designed to install
into the socket in only one way.
5. Press the module firmly into the socket. If you have difficulty installing a
module, do not force it! Carefully remove the module, then check the
