NO TE: If the iSA T value is set high, the device may not aut o ground balance . In such a case,
lower the iSA T value first. After ground balancing , set the iSA T back to its original position.
Manual Ground Balance
Allows y ou to manually modify the ground balance v alue. It is not preferred mostly because
it takes time. How ever , it is the preferr ed option in cases where a successful gr ound balance
cannot be per formed using other methods or minor corrections are r equired to the
automatic balance .
IMP ACT is designed to allow for aut omatic ground balancing c onveniently on any type of
ground . Theref ore, it is r ecommended to perform automatic ground balance upon start up.
Howev er , the ground may not be suitable for automatic gr ound balancing in some cases
and the device cannot gr ound balance on such gr ounds (Except f or the COG mode). F or
instance, w et beach sand, soils con taining alkali or salt y water , trashy sites, ploughed fields ,
highly mineralized gr ounds and grounds with v ery low mineralization are not suitable f or
automatic gr ound balance. In such terrains , you can auto gr ound balance in the COG mode
and then switch to other modes or tr y manual ground balancing . Howev er , manual ground
balance requir es a skill which develops over time thr ough practice.
T o per form manual ground balance:
1) F ind a clear spot without metals and switch the device to the GEN mode.
2) Y ou need to list en to the sounds coming from the ground in order t o per form manual
ground balance. Pump the search coil up and do wn from about 15-20 cm ( ~6''- 8'') abov e
the gr ound down t o 3 cm (~ 1'') off the g round with smooth mov ements and keeping it
parallel to the gr ound.
If the sound gets higher when lifting off the search coil abov e the g round, the ground
balance value is too low , in other wor ds, the effect from the grou nd is negativ e and the
ground balance value needs to be increased b y using the ( + ) butt on. On the other hand,
if the sound gets higher when lowering the search c oil to the ground , the gr ound balance
value is t oo high, in other wor ds, the effect from the ground is positive and the g round
balance value needs to decreased by using the ( - ) button .
3) Push the gr ound balance trigger forward once and release it. The gr ound balance value
will be shown on the display and remain ther e for a moment. Y ou can return to the gr ound
balance screen by pushing the g round balance trigger forward if the screen swit ches.
Manual ground balance functions within the range
of 0-99. However , each value covers 5 steps used
for fine tuning within itself and these steps are
indicated as multiples of 20 in the Ground Balance
window (GB). F or example, gr ound balance value
shown on the side is 70.80.
Pr ess ( + ) or ( - ) to increase or decrease the ground
balance value, respectively . If the key is pressed
once at a time, the values count one by one and if it is held down, the values will change
quickly.
4) R epea t the abo v e pr oc edur e un til the sound hear d fr om the g r ound is elimina t ed .
T he sound ma y not be elimina t ed c omplet ely in some ar eas . I n these cases , list en t o the
