Progressive/Interlace
The P AL video signal standard has 625 (or 576) interlaced (i) scan
lines, whereas progressiv e scanning, called 625p (or 576p), uses
twice the number of scan lines. F or the NTSC standard, these are
called 525i (or 480i) and 525p (or 480p) respectively .
Using progressiv e output, you can enjo y the high-resolution video
recorded on media such as D VD-Video .
Y our tele vision must be compatible to enjo y progressiv e video.
P anasonic televisions with 625 (576)/50i · 50p , 525 (480)/60i · 60p
input terminals are progressive compatible .
Protection
Y ou can pre vent accidental erasure b y setting writing protection or
erasure protection.
RGB
This refers to the three primary colours of light, red (R), green
(G), and blue (B) and also the method of producing video that
uses them. By dividing the video signal into the three colours f or
transmission, noise is reduced f or ev en higher quality images.
Sampling frequency
Sampling is the process of conv er ting the heights of sound wa ve
(analog signal) samples taken at set periods into digits (digital
encoding). Sampling frequency is the number of samples tak en per
second, so larger numbers mean more f aithful reproduction of the
original sound.
Signal Quality
This is the guide for chec king the aerial direction. The numbered
values displa yed do not indicate the strength of the signal, b ut
the quality of the signal (the signal to noise ratio , or “S/N”). The
channels you can receiv e are affected b y weather conditions,
seasons, time (da y/night), region, length of the cable that is
connected to the aerial, etc.
Thumbnail
This refers to a miniature representation of a picture used to
display m ultiple pictures in the form of a matrix.
1080i
In one high-defi nition image , 1080 (1125) alter nating scan lines
pass ev ery 1/50
th
of a second to create an interlace image.
Because 1080i (1125i) more than doubles current tele vision
broadcasts of 480i (525i), the detail is much clearer and creates a
more realistic and rich image.
1080p
In one high-defi nition image , 1080 (1125) scan lines pass at the
same time ev ery 1/50
th
of a second to create a progressiv e image.
Since progressiv e video does not alter nate scan lines like interlace,
there is a minimal amount of screen fl ic ker .
720p
In one high-defi nition image , 720 (750) scan lines pass at the same
time ev ery 1/50
th
of a second to create a progressiv e image. Since
progressiv e video does not alter nate scan lines like interlace, there
is a minimal amount of screen fl ic ker .
