Introduction
Congratulations on purchasing this Philips kettle! In
this user manual y ou nd all the information you
need to enjoy y our kettle optimall y for a long time.

Important
Read this user manual carefully bef ore you use the
appliance and sav e it for future ref erence.
Danger
Do not immer se the appliance or the base in
water or any other liquid.
W arning
Check if the voltage indicated on the appliance
corresponds to the local mains voltage before
you connect the appliance.
Do not use the appliance if the plug, the
mains cord, the base or the appliance itself is
damaged.
If the mains cord is damaged, you must ha ve it
replaced by Philips, a ser vice centre authorised
by Philips or similarly qualied per sons in order
to av oid a hazard.
This appliance is not intended for use by
per sons (including children) with reduced
physical, sensor y or mental capabilities, or lack
of experience and knowledge , unless they
hav e been given super vision or instr uction
concerning use of the appliance by a per son
responsible for their saf ety .
Children should be super vised to ensure that
they do not play with the appliance.
Keep the mains cord out of the reach of
children. Do not let the mains cord hang over
the edge of the table or w or ktop on which the
appliance stands. Excess cord can be stored in
or around the base of the appliance .
Only use the kettle in combination with its
original base .
Hot water can cause serious bur ns. Be careful
when the kettle contains hot water .
Keep the mains cord, the base and the kettle
awa y from hot surfaces.
Never ll the kettle bey ond the maxim um level
indication. If the kettle has been overlled,
boiling water may be ejected from the spout
and cause scalding.
Do not open the lid while the water is
heating up. Be careful when you open the lid
immediately after the water has boiled: the
steam that comes out of the kettle is v er y hot.
Caution
Do not touch the body of the kettle during
and some time after use , as it gets ver y hot.
Always lift the k ettle by its handle.
Always place the base and the k ettle on a dr y ,
at and stable surface.
The kettle is only intended f or boiling
water . Do not use it to heat up soup or other
liquids or jarred, bottled or tinned f ood.
Always mak e sure the water in the kettle
at least cov er s the bottom of the kettle to
prevent the kettle from boiling dr y .
Depending on the hardness of the water in
your area, small spots may appear on the
heating element of your k ettle when you use it.
This phenomenon is the result of scale build-up
on the heating element and on the inside of

the kettle o ver time. The harder the water ,
the faster scale builds up . Scale can occur in
different colours. Although scale is har mless,
too much scale can inuence the performance
of your k ettle . Descale your kettle regularly by
following the instructions given in the chapter
‘Descaling’.
Some condensation may appear on the base of
the kettle. This is perfectly normal and does not
mean that the kettle has any def ects.
Boil-dr y pr otection
This kettle is equipped with boil-dr y protection.
This device automatically switches off the kettle if it
is accidentally switched on when there is no water
or not enough water in it. The on/off switch sta ys
in ‘on’ position. Set the on/off switch to ‘off ’ and let
the kettle cool down f or 10 minutes. Then lift the
kettle from its base to reset the boil-dr y protection.
The kettle is now ready f or use again.
Electroma gnetic elds (EMF)
This Philips appliance complies with all standards
regarding electromagnetic elds (EMF). If handled
proper ly and according to the instr uctions in this
user manual, the appliance is safe to use based on
scientic evidence availab le toda y .

once more.
Using the appliance
1 Fillthekettlewithwatereitherthr oughthe
spoutorthroughtheopenlid(Fig. 2).
2 Ifthelidisopen, closethelid.
Make sure that the lid is properly closed to prevent
the kettle from boiling dr y .
3 Placethekettleonitsbase, puttheplugin
thewallsock et.
Set the on/off switch to ‘I’ (Fig. 3).

Thek ettleswitchesoffautomaticallywhen
thewaterhasreachedboilingpoint.
Note: Y ou can interrupt the boiling process by pressing
the on/off switch to ‘O’.

Cleaning the k ettle
1 Cleantheoutsideofthekettlewithasoft,
dampclothmoistenedwithwarmwaterand
somemildcleaningagent.
Cleaning the lter
Scale is not harmful to your health but it may
give y our drink a powder y taste . The scale lter
prevents scale par ticles from ending up in your
drink. Clean the scale lter regularly .

Note: Y ou can also leave the lter in the kettle
when you descale the whole appliance (see section
‘Descaling the k ettle’ in this chapter).
Note: Y ou can also take the lter out of the k ettle and
clean it in the dishwasher .
Descaling the k ettle
Regular descaling prolongs the life of the kettle.
In case of normal use (up to 5 times a day), the
following descaling frequency is recommended:
Once ever y 3 months if you use soft water (up
to 18dH).
Once ever y month if you use hard water
(more than 18dH).

Note: Y ou can also use an appropriate descaler. In
that case , follo w the instructions on the package of
the descaler .
Replacement
If the k ettle, the base or the mains cord of the
