Introduction
Congratulations on purchasing your new Philips kettle!
In this user manual you nd all the inf ormation you need
to enjoy y our kettle optimally for a long time.

Important
Read this user manual carefully before y ou use the
appliance and sav e it for future reference.
Danger
Do not immer se the appliance or the base in water
or any other liquid.
W arning
Check if the voltage indicated on the base of the
kettle corresponds to the local mains voltage before
you connect the appliance.
Do not use the appliance if the plug, the mains cord,
the base or the appliance itself is damaged.
If the mains cord is damaged, you m ust hav e it
replaced by Philips, a ser vice centre author ised by
Philips or similar ly qualied persons in order to avoid
a hazard.
This appliance is not intended for use by persons
(including children) with reduced physical, sensor y
or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and
knowledge, unless they ha ve been giv en super vision
or instr uction concerning use of the appliance by a
per son responsible for their saf ety .
Children should be super vised to ensure that they
do not play with the appliance.
Keep the mains cord out of the reach of children.
Do not let the mains cord hang ov er the edge of
the table or w or ktop on which the appliance stands.
Excess cord can be stored in or around the base of
the appliance.
Only use the kettle in combination with its original
base.
Keep the mains cord, the base and the kettle awa y
from hot surfaces.
Hot water can cause serious bur ns. Be careful when
the kettle contains hot water .
Never ll the kettle bey ond the maximum lev el
indication. If the kettle has been o verlled, boiling
water may be ejected from the spout and cause
scalding.
Do not open the lid while the water is boiling. Be
careful when you open the lid immediately after the
water has boiled: the steam that comes out of the
kettle is ver y hot.
Caution
Always place the base and the k ettle on a dr y , at
and stable surface.
The kettle is only intended for boilong water . Do
not use it to heat up soup or other liquids or jarred,
bottled or tinned food.
Do not touch the body of the kettle during and
some time after use, as it gets ver y hot. Always lift
the kettle by its handle.
Always mak e sure the water in the kettle at least
cov er s the bottom of the kettle to prevent the k ettle
from boiling dr y .
Depending on the hardness of the water in your
area, small spots ma y appear on the heating element
of your kettle when y ou use it. This phenomenon is
the result of scale build-up on the heating element
and on the inside of the kettle o ver time. The harder
the water , the faster scale builds up . Scale can occur
in different colours. Although scale is harmless, too
much scale can inuence the performance of your
kettle. Descale y our kettle regularly by following the
instr uctions given in chapter ‘Descaling’.
Boil-dr y pr otection
This kettle is equipped with boil-dr y protection. This
device automatically switches off the kettle if it is

accidentally switched on when there is no water or not
enough water in it. The on/off switch stays in ‘on’ position
and the power -on light, if a vailable, stays on. Set the on/off
switch to ‘off ’ and let the kettle cool down f or 10 minutes.
Then lift the kettle from its base to reset the boil-dr y
protection. The kettle is now ready for use again.
Electroma gnetic elds (EMF)
This Philips appliance complies with all standards
regarding electromagnetic elds (EMF). If handled
proper ly and according to the instructions in this user
manual, the appliance is safe to use based on scientic
evidence availab le today .
Before first use
1 Remo v e stickers, if any , fr om the base or the k ettle.
2 Place thebaseonadry , stableandatsurface.
3 T oadjustthelengthofthecord, winditroundthe
reelinthebase. Passthecordthroughoneofthe
slotsinthebase(Fig. 2)
4 Rinse thek ettlewithwater .
5 Fill thek ettlewithwateruptotheMAXleveland
letthewaterboilonce(seechapter ‘Usingthe
appliance’).
6 P ouroutthehotwaterandrinsethek ettleonce
more.
Using the appliance
1 Fill thek ettlewithwater , eitherthr oughthespout
orthroughtheopenlid(Fig. 3).
2 If thelidisopen, closeit.
Make sure that the lid is properly closed to prevent the
kettle from boiling dr y .
3 Place thek ettleonitsbaseandputthepluginthe
wallsocket.
4 Set theon/offswitchto ‘I’toswitchonthe
kettle(Fig. 4).
Note: Y ou can s witch off the k ettle at any time by setting the
on/off switch to ‘O’.

Cleaning and descaling

Cleaning the k ettle
1 Clean theoutsideofthek ettlewithasoft, damp
clothmoistenedwithwarmwaterandsomemild
cleaningagent.
Cleaning the lter
Scale is not harmful to your health but it may giv e your
drink a powder y taste . The scale lter prevents scale
par ticles from ending up in your drink. Clean the scale
lter regular ly .
1 Y oucancleanthelterinthreewa ys:
1 leav e the lter in the kettle when you descale the
whole appliance (see section ‘Descaling the kettle’ in
this chapter).
2 remov e the lter from the kettle and gently clean
it with a soft nylon brush under the tap (Fig. 5).
3 remov e the lter from the kettle and clean it in the
dishwasher .
T o remov e the lter , push the lter backwards (1)
and then lift it out of the kettle (2). (Fig. 6)

Descaling the k ettle
Regular descaling prolongs the life of the kettle.
In case of normal use (up to 5 times a day), the following
descaling frequency is recommended:
Once ever y 3 months for soft water areas (up to
18dH).

Repeattheprocedur eifthereisstillsomescalein
the kettle.
Y ou can also use an appropriate descaler . In that case ,
follow the instructions on the package of the descaler .
Replacement
Ifthekettle, thebaseorthemainscordoftheappliance
isdamaged, takethebaseorthek ettletoaser vice
centreauthorisedbyPhilipsf orrepairorr eplacement
of the cord to a v oid a hazard.
Replacement lter s for your k ettle can be purchased from
your Philips dealer or a Philips ser vice centre . The table
below indicates which lter is suitab le for your k ettle type .
