Important
Read this user manual carefully before y ou use the
appliance and sav e it for future reference.
Danger
Never immerse the appliance in water .
Do not inser t oversized foods and metal foil
packages into the toaster , as this may cause re or
electric shock.

Check if the voltage indicated on the bottom of the
appliance corresponds to the local mains voltage
before you connect the appliance.
This appliance is not intended for use by persons
(including children) with reduced physical, sensor y
or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and
knowledge, unless they ha ve been given super vision
or instr uction concerning use of the appliance by a

Children should be super vised to ensure that they

from the cr umb tray . Make sure the cr umb tray is
correctly placed.
Immediately unplug the toaster if re or smoke is
obser ved.
Keep the mains cord awa y from hot surfaces.
If the mains cord is damaged, y ou must hav e it
replaced by Philips, a ser vice centre author ised by
Philips or similar l y qualied per sons in order to a void
a hazard.
This appliance is only intended for toasting bread. Do
not put any other ingredients in the appliance, as this
may lead to a hazardous situation.
Caution
Do not let the mains cord hang ov er the edge of the
table or worktop on which the appliance stands.
Av oid touching the metal par ts of the toaster , as they
become ver y hot during toasting. Only touch the
controls and lift the appliance by its plastic body .
Do not place the toaster on a hot surface.
Only connect the appliance to an ear thed wall
socket.
Always unplug the appliance after use.
The toaster is intended for household use only and
may only be used indoors. It is not intended for
commercial or industrial use .
If a slice of bread gets stuck inside the toaster , unplug
the appliance and let it cool down before y ou tr y to
remov e the bread. Do not use a knife or a sharp tool,
as these may cause damage to the heating elements.

Before first use
Remov e any sticker s and wipe the body of the toaster
with a damp cloth.

Before you use the appliance f or the r st time, we advise
you to let the appliance complete a f ew toasting cycles
without slices of bread on the highest browning setting
in a proper l y ventilated room. This b ur ns off an y dust
that may ha ve accumulated on the heating elements
and prevents unpleasant smells when toasting bread.
Using the appliance
1 Puttheapplianceonastableandatsurface, awa y

thepluginthewallsocket.
2 T oadjustthelengthofthecord, windpar t
ofitroundthebrack etsinthebaseofthe
appliance(Fig. 2).
T oasting br ead

1 Putoneortwoslicesofbr eadinthe
toaster(Fig. 3).
2 Selectthedesiredbr owningsetting. (Fig. 4)
Select a low setting (1-2) for lightl y toasted bread
and a high setting (5-7) for darkly toasted bread.
Select the defrost function Ñ (settings 6 to 7,
depending on the desired browning degree) for
toasting frozen bread.
3 Pushthetoastinglev erdowntoswitchonthe
appliance. (Fig. 5)
The toasting lever will only sta y down if the appliance has
been connected to the mains.
Caution: Themetalpartsofthetoasterbecomehot
duringtoasting. Donottouchthem.
Note: Y ou can stop the toasting pr ocess and pop up the
bread at any time by pr essing the stop button on the
toaster (Fig. 6).
4 T oadjustthebro wningsettingduringtoasting, turn
thebro wningcontrol.
5 Whenthetoastisready , itpopsupandthetoaster
switchesoff.
6 Removethetoastedbr ead. T or emovesmaller
items, youcanmov ethetoastingleverupwar dsa
littlefurther .
If bread gets stuck inside the toaster , remove the plug
from the wall socket and let the appliance cool down
completely . Then carefully remove the bread from
the toaster .
Caution: Donotuseaknifeoranothersharpmetaltool
toremov ebreadfr omthetoasteranddonottouchthe
metalinternalpartsofthetoaster .
Cleaning
1 Unplugtheapplianceandletitcooldown.

Envir onment
Do not throw awa y the appliance with the nor mal
household waste at the end of its life, but hand it in
at an ofcial collection point for recycling. By doing
this, y ou help to preser ve the environment (Fig. 8).

T roubleshooting
If problems should arise with your toaster and y ou are
unable to solve them b y means of the information below ,
contact the Philips Consumer Care Centre in your
countr y .
Problem Solution
1. The toaster
does not
work.
Check if
the plug
has been
proper l y
inser ted
into the wall
socket.
If the toaster
still does
not work,
take it to a
ser vice centre
authorised
by Philips for
examination.
2. Bread gets
stuck in the
appliance.
Unplug the appliance
and let it cool down.
Carefully remov e the
slice or slices from the
toaster . T ak e care not
to damage the heating
elements while
removing the slice or
slices of bread. Nev er
use a metal object for
this purpose .
3. The toast is
too dar k/too
light.
Check the
browning
setting
selected
for toasting.
Select a
lower setting
next time if
your toast
is too dar k
and a higher
setting if
your toast is
too light.
4. Smok e comes out
of the toaster .
Y ou hav e
selected a too
high setting
for the type
of bread
inser ted.
Press the
stop button
to stop the
toasting
process.
5. The mains
cord is
damaged.
If the mains cord
