Important
Read this user manual carefully before y ou use the
appliance and sav e it for future reference.
This appliance is not intended for use by persons
(including children) with reduced physical, sensory
or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and
knowledge, unless they ha ve been given super vision
or instr uction concerning use of the appliance by a
per son responsible f or their safety .
Children should be super vised to ensure that they
do not play with the appliance.
Use and store the appliance at a temperature
between 5°C and 35°C .
The appliance complies with the internationally
approv ed IEC safety regulations and can be safely
cleaned under the tap. (Fig. 1)
Be careful with hot water . Always check if the water is not
too hot, to prev ent your hands from getting burnt.
Remov e the batter ies if you are not going to use the
appliance for a month or more.
Electroma gnetic elds (EMF)
This Philips appliance complies with all standards
regarding electromagnetic elds (EMF). If handled
proper ly and according to the instructions in this user
manual, the appliance is safe to use based on scientic
evidence availab le today .
Preparing for use
The appliance r uns on two R6 AA 1.5-v olt batteries. W e
strongly advise you to use Philips LR6 alkaline batteries.
They supply sufcient energy for approx. 60 minutes of
shaving.
Inserting batteries
1 Unlock the cap of the batter y compartment (Fig. 2).
2 Remove the cap of the battery
compartment. (Fig. 3)
3 Put two batteries in the batter y
compartment (Fig. 4).
Make sur e your hands and the a ppliance are dry when
you insert the batteries.
Make sur e the + and - poles of the batteries point
in the right direction
The appliance does not work if the batter ies hav e been
placed incorrectly .
4 Push the cap of the batter y compartment back
onto the appliance.
5 Lock the cap of the batter y compartment (Fig. 5).
Optimising the lifetime of the battery
T o av oid damage due to batter y leakage:
Remov e the batter ies if you are not going to use the
appliance for a month or more.
Do not leav e empty batter ies in the appliance.
Using the appliance
1 Remove the protection ca p.
2 Switch on the shaver b y pushing the on/off slide
upwards (Fig. 6).
3 Move the sha ving heads quickly over y our
skin, making both straight and circular
movements. (Fig. 7)
Shaving on a dr y face gives the best results.
Y our skin may need 2 or 3 w eeks to get accustomed to
the Philips shaving system.
4 Switch off the shaver b y pushing the on/off slide
downwards.
5 Put the protection cap on the sha ver ev ery time
you ha ve used it, to prev ent damage (Fig. 8).
Cleaning
Regular cleaning guarantees better shaving performance .
The easiest and most hygienic wa y to clean the appliance
is to rinse the shaving unit and the hair chamber with hot
water ever y time you ha ve used the appliance.
Nev er rinse the shav er when the batter y compartment
is open. Alwa ys mak e sure the cap of the battery
compartment is in place and properly lock ed before y ou
start rinsing the shav er .

Be careful with hot water . Alwa ys check if the water is
not too hot, to pre vent your hands fr om getting burnt.
Every da y: shaving unit and hair chamber
1 Switch off the shaver .
2 Remove the sha ving unit. (Fig. 9)
3 Rinse the outside of the shaving unit under a hot
tap for some time (Fig. 10).
4 Rinse the inside of the shaving unit under a hot tap
for some time. (Fig. 11)
5 Rinse the hair chamber under a hot tap for some
time. (Fig. 12)
6 Put the shaving unit back onto the sha ver and shak e
off excess water .
Nev er dr y the sha ving unit with a towel or tissue, as
this ma y damage the shaving heads.
Every six months: shaving heads
1 Switch off the shaver .
2 Remove the sha ving unit (Fig. 9).
3 T urn the wheel anticlockwise (1) and remove the
retaining frame (2) (Fig. 13).
4 Remove the sha ving heads from the sha ving
unit. (Fig. 14)
5 Remove the guard fr om the cutter (Fig. 15).
6 Clean the cutters with the shor t-bristled side of
the brush. (Fig. 16)
Do not clean more than one cutter and guard at a time,
since they are all matching sets. If y ou accidentally mix up
the cutter s and guards, it ma y take sev er al weeks before
optimal shaving perf or mance is restored.
7 Brush the guard. (Fig. 17)
8 Put the shaving heads back into the sha ving unit. Put
the retaining frame back into the sha ving unit, press
the wheel and turn it clockwise.
9 Put the shaving unit back onto the sha ver .
Storage
Put the protection ca p on the shav er to prev ent
damage (Fig. 8).
Replacement
Replace the shaving heads ev er y two year s for optimal
shaving results.
Replace damaged or worn shaving heads with HQ64
Philips Double Action Super Lift & Cut Sha ving Heads
(HQ5715) or HQ54 Philips Double Action Lift & Cut
Shaving Heads (HQ5710,5705).
1 Switch off the shaver .
2 Remove the sha ving unit (Fig. 9).
3 T urn the wheel anticlockwise (1) and remove the
retaining frame (2) (Fig. 13).
4 Remove the sha ving heads from the sha ving unit
and replace them with ne w ones (Fig. 14).
5 Put the retaining frame back into the shaving unit,
press the wheel and turn it clockwise.
6 Put the shaving unit back onto the sha ver .

Envir onment
Batteries contain substances that may pollute the
environment. Remo ve the batteries when they are
empty or when you discard the appliance. Do not
throw awa y the batteries with the nor mal household
waste, but hand them in at an ofcial collection point.
Do not throw the appliance a way with the normal
household waste at the end of its life, but hand
it in at an ofcial collection point for recycling.
By doing this you will help to preser ve the
environment (Fig. 18).
