Caution
Keep the appliance dr y (Fig. 1).
Use and store the appliance at a temperature
between 15°C and 35°C .
Remov e the batter ies from the appliance if y ou are
not going to use it for some time.
Compliance with standards
This Philips appliance complies with all standards
regarding electromagnetic elds (EMF). If handled
proper ly and according to the instructions in this user
manual, the appliance is safe to use based on scientic
evidence availab le today .
Preparing for use
Inserting batteries
The appliance r uns on tw o R6 AA 1.5-volt batteries.
Preferably use Philips alkaline batteries.
Make sur e that your hands ar e dr y when y ou insert the
batteries.
1 Remove the lid of the battery compar tment (Fig. 2)
2 Place two batteries in the battery
compartment (Fig. 3).
Note: Mak e sure the + and - indications on the batteries
match the indications in the batter y compar tment.
Note: The shaver does not work if the batteries have been
placed incorrectly .
3 Put the lid of the batter y compartment back onto
the appliance. First place the top par t of the lid (1)
and then press do wn the bottom par t until y ou
hear a click (2) (Fig. 4).

Do not expose the appliance to temperatures higher
than 35°C .
Remov e the batter ies if the appliance is not going to
be used for a month or more;
Do not leav e empty batter ies in the appliance.
Sha ving time
T wo new batteries offer a cordless shaving time of 60
minutes.
Using the appliance
Sha ving
Y our skin may need 2 or 3 weeks to get accustomed to
the Philips shaving system.
Shaving on a dr y face giv es the best results.
1 Press the switch lock and push the on/off slide
upwards to switch on the sha v er (Fig. 5).
The switch lock prevents accidental switching on of the
appliance.
2 Move the sha ving heads over y our skin. Make both
straight and circular mo vements (Fig. 6).
3 Push the on/off slide downwards to switch off the
sha ver .
4 Put the protection cap on the sha ver after use to
pre vent damage to the sha ving heads (Fig. 7).

Cleaning and maintenance
Nev er use scouring pads, abrasive cleaning agents or
aggressiv e liquids such as petrol or acetone to clean the
appliance.
Regular cleaning guarantees better shaving performance .
For easy and optimal cleaning, Philips Shaving Head
Cleaning Spray (type no. HQ110) is available. Ask your
Philips dealer for information.
Note: Philips Shaving Head Cleaning Spray may not be
available in all countries . Contact the Customer Care Centre
in your countr y about the availability of this accessory.
Y ou can also clean the shav er in the following way:
Every week: shaving unit and hair chamber
1 Switch off the shav er .
2 Cleanthetopoftheappliancerst. Usethe
cleaning brush supplied (Fig. 8).
3 Press the release button (1) and r emove the
sha ving unit (2) (Fig. 9).
4 Clean the inside of the shaving unit and the hair
chamber with the brush (Fig. 10).
5 Put the shaving unit back onto the sha ver .
Every two months: shaving heads
1 Switch off the shav er .
2 Press the release button (1) and r emove the
sha ving unit (2) (Fig. 9).
3 T o remov e the retaining frame, push the sides of
the central spring towards each other (1). Then
lift the retaining frame out of the sha ving unit
(2) (Fig. 11).
4 Slide the shaving heads out of the r etaining frame
and clean them one by one (Fig. 12).
Do not mix up the cutters and the guards.
This is essential since each cutter has been ground with
its corresponding guard for optimal performance . If you
accidentally mix up the sets, it could take several weeks
before optimal sha ving performance is restored.
5 Clean the cutter with the shor t-bristled side of the
cleaning brush (Fig. 13).
Br ush carefully in the direction of the arrow .
6 Clean the guard with the cleaning brush (Fig. 14).
7 Slide the shaving heads back into the r etaining
frame and put the retaining frame back into the
sha ving unit (Fig. 15).
8 Put the shaving unit back onto the sha ver .
Extra thorough cleaning
For extra thorough cleaning, put the sha ving heads in
a degreasing liquid (e.g. alcohol) ever y six months. T o
remov e the shaving heads, follow steps 1 to 4 described
abov e . After cleaning, lubr icate the central point on the
inside of the guards with a drop of sewing machine oil to
prevent wear of the sha ving heads.
Storage
1 Switch off the shav er .
2 Put the protection cap on the sha ver after use to
pre vent damage to the sha ving heads (Fig. 7).
Replacement
Replace the shaving heads ev er y 2 year s for optimal
shaving results.
Replace damaged or worn shaving heads with HQ4 Ç
Philips shaving heads onl y .
1 Switch off the shav er .
2 Press the release button (1) and r emove the
sha ving unit (2) (Fig. 9).
3 T o remov e the retaining frame, push the sides of
the central spring towards each other (1). Then
lift the retaining frame out of the sha ving unit
(2) (Fig. 11).
4 Slide the shaving heads out of the r etaining frame
and replace them with ne w ones (Fig. 12).
5 Put the retaining frame back into the sha ving unit.
6 Put the shaving unit back onto the sha ver .

Envir onment
Do not throw awa y the appliance with the normal
household waste at the end of its life, but hand it in
at an ofcial collection point for recycling. By doing
this, you help to preser ve the environment (Fig. 16).
Batteries contain substances that may pollute the
environment. Do not throw awa y batter ies with the
normal household waste , but dispose of them at an
ofcial collection point for batteries. Always remov e
the batteries before you discard and hand in the
appliance at an ofcial collection point.
