Bf 109 F-4/Trop, Werknummer 8673, was handed over to 3. Staffel of
Jagdgeschwader 27 in the Summer of 1942 after a longer period of
workshop level maintennance. During this process it had been
repainted with a non-standard desert camouflage, which affected
the stencils and servicing markings – many of which were over
painted. It is assumed that decals no. 38, 39, 40, 49 and 50 were
probably not found on the aircraft.
The camo demarcation line ran along the lower fuselage and
extended over the wing leading edges into the wing’s lower surface.
Between September 6, and September 15, 1942, damage to the
white fuselage band was inflicted during take-off by a larger rock
(decal no. 54).
